- gvetterick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+62none of you guys better show up at the same bar I do tonight!
- johnburk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+47http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=109NvRJzdGw&mode=related&search= is also a nice one. With a real hot girl in it. Does anyone know who she is?
- wicketr, on 10/12/2007, -5/+41Safe bet my ass. If I were to ask my friends to make a mathematical bet while trying to have fun and drinking, they'd probably kick my ass for being a dork.
- yonnermark, on 10/12/2007, -2/+35looks like a surprisingly safe bet
- vince916, on 10/12/2007, -0/+27Is this a UK thing where random person walks up to you and makes a bet then you buy alcohol? I never seen this before at the bars in the US.
- dxmzan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24So if someone came up to you in a bar and said, "I bet you I can do this!" Why would you think they couldn't do it. They obviously wouldn't come up to you if they could not do the trick. Obviously, the fact that shes hot has a lot to do with this trick, you wouldn't want to turn her away.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14You mean: 2*pi*r, or pi*d.
- tuxidomasx, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14c = pi(d)
dont try this bar trick on engineers. even when drunk, we can do simple formulas in our head. lol - lhnz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11I've never seen anybody do that in the UK either.
But I guess you could pull it off if you were confident enough.
Or just do it on friends haha. - ICSU, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Is that you, ImTheDarkcyde?
http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/7296/nothititmt9.jpg - irreality, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Related to the bar theme; here's how NOT to pick a woman. Pretty fun stuff ;) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pa8BZ-hFA3w
- ICSU, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6obligatory
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Real_Hustle - Thater, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Weirdly, this video has more diggs than views.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5When this show aired in the UK i was in the pub the following night. Some guy tried it on me, I waited for him to up the stakes a bit, then i said "cirumfrance of the glass".
Then i said "well i bet you can't jump over the glass", He said he could, Until i put it in the corner of the pub...
2-0
Remember, You can only hustle if the person you are hustling didn't watch the same thing as you on TV last night. - buryme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5You don't have to be an engineer to know something as simple as π·d=C...
- billisdog, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Yeah, well this is a pretty cheap headline. I mean you can get a free anything from anybody if theyre stupid enough to bet you about something about it
- weizilla, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4speaking of the UK and hustle, the tv show Hustle is pretty good http://www.tv.com/hustle/show/21390/summary.html
- johnburk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5She is Jessica Jane Clement
- djrocksteady, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Hoax? how about you try it, instead of thinking about it and blog-spamming.
It works. - Anonymous99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I thought she was gonna signal to one of her friends to lift the hat off the drink or something...but that works too!
- lhnz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Basically the bet is what's greater the circumference or the height of the beer glass.
The height of a normal beer glass is approx 15cm.
The circumference is approximated 27.5cm.
Obviously people place the wrong bet. - Stimpo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3http://cool-geek.co.uk/4b_jessica.html
- lewikee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Intro song is The Dandy Warhols - We Used To Be Friends
- Dominatus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24 cm?! What?! That's 1.5 inches. Dude, measure you're index finger, it's about 3 inches, that's the width of most beer glasses, 3 inches or 7-8 cm, at least, I've seen bigger.
- rnelsonee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Um, no. Watch the video again. He clearly measures the rim.
- darthfather, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I can tell you one. Works perfect, even with smart people. You will ask the subject to buy two beers only in pints and a glass of gin. Gin will be for him and beers for you. Your goal is to finish your beers before him. Then you put on three conditions:
1. He can start to drink only after you had finished your first pint.
2. He can’t start until you put the first pint on the table.
3. He can’t touch any of your pints.
After you had finished the first beer put it upside down on top of his glass. He can not take his glass from the table without breaking the rule number 3. You’ll win all the times.
If this is working too well visit http://www.cirquelodge.com/Treatment/AlcoholRehab/AlcoholRehab.php and take your friends with you. - NeedleGuy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"The largest mouth I've seen was on a brandy glass that was maybe 4cm wide. Anything wider should be classified as a bucket."
????
the largest brandy glass mouth you've seen is a little over an inch and a half wide? do you have to take the yellow brick road to get to where you live? - wiggimt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2He's right though, if you can properly estimate the diameter, your answer for the height would have to be < 3x the diameter, if you can visualize it.
If you're drunk though, probably wouldn't work. ;) - saintdesy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'd rather bet them that I could rip a phone book in half. Then they probably be afraid to beat me up after I won.
- qniverse, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4uhhh, d is the diameter of the glass, not the height of the glass. there is no relationship between the height of the glass and the circumference. in other words, that glass could be made with the same circumference and be half as tall.
- ozid, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4if that alone can get you laid, by someone who you aren't already involved with... you must have some pretty low standards.
- bobbytuck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you want the best book on bar tricks -- including proposition bets, odds bets, and NAP (Not-a-prayer) bets, buy Simon Lovell's latest book: "How to Cheat at Everything."
The book used to circulate among the magic community and was previously titled 'Billion Dollar Bunko' (and went for huge prices on ebay.) Now it's $13 at Amazon -- a super deal for a fantastic book.
In addition to bar bets, you'll find everything you want to know about carnival games (including 'Quarter Falls' games), false shuffling, dealing seconds, dealing bottoms, and basic false shuffles.
The magic community doesn't want you to read this book because it's essentially "exposure" -- exposure of gambling scams but also exposure of what now has moved from gambling to magic -- the dealing and card work. The false shuffling tutorials alone are great -- plus you'll learn how to riffle stack and false cut. (Obviously, you want to use these things with the right company. You don't want to game someone who's in the process of gaming you -- particularly if they're smarter than you.)
Plus, where else can you learn how to tie a cigarette in a knot without tearing it, collect your money around the bar, then untie it and smoke it. No *****. It's completely impromptu and will work with any normal cigarette. And, yeah, it's a real knot. - TSSaloic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thanks for the tip.
- jdibiase, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1must be a train engineer (no offense to train engineers)
- orientis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I just tried it on my flatmate, it worked fine - and I used one of those stupid coffee warmer cup things from starbucks, you know the tall thin ones? Yeah. Worked fine.
- blanktarget, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Hmmm lots of people saying this is a hoax. I'll just have to test it out before I try it on someone. lol
- Onikun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1whats the song from this one
- Figs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh good grief.... :P
talk about putting your foot in your mouth! - CrookedAsterisk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1YouTube's view counter doesn't update straight away or the page is cached on their end or something like that.
- quazywabbit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1whats to stop him from glabbing his glass and moving it quickly to remove the pint glass?
- martypal2005, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I hope you guys know this is a hoax. The length around the rim would be 2*pi*r or 3.14*diameter. Now use your brain.
- iamsojelin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've since started watching The Real Hustle (the show this was on). I've seen all of the first season and am well into the second season. It's a good show, and I recommend it grabbing it from Torrentspy or something. I emailed the BBC and they aren't planning on releasing a DVD anytime soon. Sure, some of the scams are staged, but it's still entertaining and can give you some "good" ideas.
- slantysideways, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, what is wrong with all these people saying its a hoax? This works fine. It would be great to meet you in a bar and pull this trick on you after you've already seen it done.
The best proof I can give you is this beer stein in front of me is ~6.5' tall and has a diameter of ~3.5'. Now use your brain. - thetheaterimp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Just Breathe by Telepopmusik is the song
- TwilightKing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@CapeKid
I was just thinking that. You can share the award. - Elektriq, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1What's that intro song?
- squeevey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The bet is about the circumference of the mouth of the glass vs. the height of the glass. He asks bets them a beer if the height is taller than the circumference. Then begins stacking to increase the bet. The narrator said, don't stack higher than double the height of the glass and you should be alright for a normal sized beer glass.
- Unrealious, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If a glass is 3 inches in diameter then the circumference is over 9 inches!
- martypal2005, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Haha.
- rowlodge, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2 get beat to a pulp for tricking a drunk hellsangel.
