- davidbond, on 10/12/2007, -1/+48Inaccurate - Lossy compression DOES lose video quality.
- Abatrour, on 10/12/2007, -5/+36Cmon, this is lame, he compressed the video using xvid, and he only did a single pass encode at a constant 300kbps.
For better quality he should have used a video codec that can do quality based encoding like h.264. - Tu13erhead, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16@ Supraman
That's what the green "thumbs up" button is for. - Snakedal337, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13He reminds me of ramsey from thebroken
"Today weee are going to downLOAD off kazaa....my beechs" - sjames1010, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Not exactly lossless, like the headline says, but it was a pretty cool tutorial for those that haven't done it before.
- lazyplayboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Media files are usually split into rar files for posting on binary newsgroups. Plenty of software is available to easily manage the multiple files.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5bury as inaccurate everyone.
it losses quality that way. - MauroCol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Well instead of arguing so much why don't you give us any other options guys, this might be helpful for some of us, what other options are out there?
- f0dderboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Compression without loss IS possible.
It's called lossless compression. Several video codecs exist to do this sort of thing.
Read up.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lossless_data_compression#Video_compression - ReXorcist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Yet another great "hacker" tip from Ramzi...
- Antinous, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4What a terrible article; compress without loss? This is actually impossible. No matter what codec is used (XviD,x264,etc). As for the audio, bleh...
Not to mention, oh wait I will, use GordianKnot for this stuff...if you must use windows. Don't jack around with vdub/vdubmod manually what a waste of time. - noouch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Without losing video quality? It's magic!
Lossless codecs don't give you a very good compression ratio, 2:1 at best (this is of course assuming the video is from a camera where LZW & co. don't do very well). Still, h.264, xvid, etc. will look very good in most cases at a 1:10 compression ratio, which is sufficient as long as you're not planning on distributing longer clips and movies over the web. - Chealion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I was hoping for something that showed/explained how one should use keyframes, b-frames, and data rates to get the best looking movie and the smallest size possible. Not a short tutorial on how to use a freaking program to do some basic compression.
- noouch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well if you're looking for a lossles codec, try HuffYUV.
- fogelsong, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1waste of bandwidth and time, not to mention the fact that compressing a video is the very definition of losing quality. I was hoping for some sort of video compression codec/method that compares to FLAC/SHN/APE
*marks inaccurate* - DannyDiggler, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7This guy is clueless. "20Kbits/s stereo sound", what an idiot.
Buried - thatbox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Try HuffYUV, dawg. I suggest you DO jack around with VirtualDub - you might learn something!
- sadbean, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm with MauroCol
Compression is all about compromise. If you don't like this guy's way, what are your options? - rjfalcon, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6That's why it's a how to. It explains it for those don't know how to do it.
Like me - Necrofear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That is so lame....
xvid is a lossy compression codec. It does lose some quality, just not always visible quality to the untrained eye. - spage, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I use VisiCrop for this job
http://www.visifly.com/VisiCrop/ - MayOng, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0My 2 cents - the Screen Shot taken for the video was Unclear, Unfocus but Good try for a How To Video Tutorial.
I would not Digg It Out but the video demo. can be improved. - marzim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hahaha..Sorry I can't help it.
- pipes27, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Spam his email! It appears at the end of the video. hahaha
- philistine, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1what is the best way to make a video file smaller that will play on 8125? (WMV)
- rowlodge, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0tried it already does work better in xvid on youtube. didnt do anything just transferred it, then put it up, easier.
one problem i noticed is dont go to low on framerate or will look like an old edison movie. but still clear. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1I need subtitles.
- thund3rstruck, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3uh yea... if you're going to make THE LAMEST JOKE EVER, then at least learn what the valid switches are for the del command...
c:>del /?
Deletes one or more files.
DEL [/P] [/F] [/S] [/Q] [/A[[:]attributes]] names
ERASE [/P] [/F] [/S] [/Q] [/A[[:]attributes]] names - Arkonnan, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4I guess the tech support gig isn't paying the bills if these people are doing how-to tutorials during their down-time.
- neko, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2Just as long as you don't attempt to bundle it into lots of little .rar files. That drives me spare.
- grimman, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2As you can see... CODAC. Yes... I speak like a donkey too!
- sirber, on 10/12/2007, -13/+6totally lame
buried.
For the interrested, I use RealAnime for my recompression software:
http://www.detritus.qc.ca - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -12/+3He sounds like microsoft tech support... DONT TRUST HIM!
- Serinox, on 10/12/2007, -16/+3del /y *.*
100% compression :)
(BTW don't run that command it will kill you system. i assume no responsibility. run at you own risk.) - Supraman, on 10/12/2007, -20/+7Agreed.
