- elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+38Jokes aside, no, it will not blend. The steel of the katana is stronger than the steel of the blendtec blades.
- NumberFour, on 10/12/2007, -2/+34Thats what she said.
- Evoguy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23Wow.. just wow. I had no idea that much time, effort, and skill went into a good blade. Very impressive.
- Kathark, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Interesting that all blocks are done with the back (blunt) edge of the sword. Makes sense, but it never occured to me before watching.
- sirpsychosexy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18i paused the video to hear myself say 'tamahagani'
- jadacyrus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15this is actually pretty awesome, im glad there are still things in this world people hold sacred and also devote themselves to obtain such mastery. probably the coolest documentary ive seen in a while.
- CheapDigWannbe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14I found the HD label under the NG logo to be quite ironic...
- themastersb, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15I thought this was going to be the tv show How It's Made
- Mrdiggers, on 10/12/2007, -7/+19why did i watch this hole video when i could just ask a ninja?
- Xorp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Incase anyone wants to save it: http://master01.spikedhumor.com//101393/101393_katana_1.wmv
- TheBritishGuy1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Actually samurai style, ninjas didn't have katanas they basically used farm equipment.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10The crazy thing is; the hand-made blades would probably still be better.
Technology is good; but for some things, nothing can beat a dedicated human with a lifetime of experience. - stupidverizon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Yea I once thought about buying one from ebay but now screw that I would be getting a fake o_O
- zapa, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12I just lost 45minutes of my sleep.
- gak001, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10The references to ninja are clever (I guess) but flawed. The ninja traditionally used shikoro ken not katana. Katana are samurai swords - hence the 20 minutes or so talking about samurai. Even then, not many ninja used swords seeing as swords are kind of conspicuous in a society where only samurai are permitted to possess weapons, so ninja generally used gardening tools and other commonly available items.
- bobcrotch, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Why? This one works fine.
Use firefox and use adblock and flashblock - Aufverdsing, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10It was very long but very good
- DNAspark99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Actually, say it again, properlly this time: tamahagane
- S1ngular1ty1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Titanium would make a crappy sword. It is too soft compared to steel. It would not hold an edge.
- JohnTheJohnMan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6yea, or you could click the full screen button or download the wmv
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Actually, ninjas would acquire samurai swords whenever they could (ie: from dead samurai) since they of course were of supreme quality, as opposed to ninja swords which were often brittle and could get cut by katanas.
Unlike samurai, however, ninjas didn't rely too much on swords for fighting. Ninjas had to learn a whole array of weapons to fight with. - kellanders, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3That guy near the end must have some serious confidence in his skills to let his daughter shoot an arrow at him.
- sevenoutdb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I have a $500 katana that's folded steel and razor sharp, it's like a ribbon of evil steel. I thought (past tense) that it was pretty nice. I've seen $10,000 blades on the internet and that's just for the blade, no handle, no scabbard. Plus you need to get some weird art export permit thing for them to get stateside. This video just makes all those look so cheap. I mean, damn, did you see that polishing master use little grain-sized stones. Damn. I want one.
- dansued, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3If anybody wants to try to find a hi-res version, the program is called "the sword of the samurai"
- citor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3that was a really interesting watch... I really want one of those swords now :)
- a2artifacts, on 01/13/2009, -0/+1I love watching swords get made, it's an amazing process no matter which type you're making.
- jagtar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1amazing documentary
- Jolene, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2the Katana really is an amazing piece of weaponry. Tho, I don't always like the mystical greatness that even people now a days put around it. It wasn't the only amazing sword ever made. Anyone here ever heard of the Damascus swords?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damascus_steel - MaXiMuM32, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I found one with the name "National Geographic Samurai Sword".
- elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Man... ninjas are cool.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I was surprised to hear that you can buy one for as low as $5000. $5000 is a lot of money, but anyone can afford that.
All that time it took to make one sword. It should be worth way more. - tothemax64, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dude damascus are made the same way by folding steel so katanas are pretty much made of damascus if anything there better.
- bearnard, on 02/26/2008, -0/+0a site about japanese sword http://www.japanese-antiques.net/About%20Japanese% ...

I take it you failed history class, huh? - mgenovese, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I'm holding out for How It's Used, same topic.
- flashywordz, on 10/12/2007, -9/+7What, you think making a razor sharp sword with HAND TOOLS is fast and easy?
Think much? - edzieba, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1A cheapass £20 katana would probably shatter in a blender. The question is, does that constitute blending?
- FiP0, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1That's pretty much what I've figured... still, i'd like to see that, since in all those "will it blend" videos the blender manages to blend the object.
On the other hand, who would put a very expensive real katana sword in a blender ? - MasterFunk, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1I was saddened that they didn't cover that a good Katana has a Dragon right on the blade, and always a good water of quality while looking for swords on QVC.
- SpaceDreamer, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1VICTOLY!!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3u guys are so lame lol
- liltbrockie, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1Imagine if a Katana forged you.
- angrycat, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1Imagine if cats forged katanas
- qazyhoods, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1i would still rather have a precision machine cut titanium blade. modern technology ftw!
- Jolls, on 10/12/2007, -11/+2I had to log in just so I could digg you up for that. excellent
- FiP0, on 10/12/2007, -17/+7Yeah, but will it blend ?
Jokes aside, I'm really wondering.. katanas are really tough. - JAXXXON, on 10/12/2007, -10/+0lol k i will watch a small video for fourty five minutes
- VivaLaNation, on 10/12/2007, -18/+4ninja style
