- JerichoSam, on 01/02/2009, -2/+24This is an interesting shift, and might be surprising to people who don't follow homeschooling in the news.
FTA:
"A major change is the motivation for home schooling. Whereas the motive for home schooling was in the past primarily religious, more recently-according to the exhaustive 2001 National Household Education Survey-over 70 percent of home school parents have a non-religious primary motivation for pulling their kids out of public schools. Most of these reasons are contrary to the stereotype of home schooling parents as being religious fundamentalists." - inactive, on 01/02/2009, -5/+26FTA:
"They have seen how top colleges are now seeking out home-schooled kids, and have noticed that home-schooled children out-score traditionally schooled ones"
Teachers unions don't want people to read things like this. - JerichoSam, on 01/02/2009, -3/+17Agree completely. I imagine that's why opponents of homeschooling are now concentrating on other so-called benefits of public education.
- davidmesaaz, on 01/02/2009, -4/+16The teachers union now that they destroyed public schools they now have a new target home schoolers... This goes to show you that union want fund schools and not educate students.
- ThsGuyRightHere, on 01/02/2009, -0/+8For what crime exactly should Obama be impeached? I think Bush has committed impeachable offenses, but I waited for him to screw up before I joined the ranks of his detractors.

The Gilded Age of Home Schooling
FTA
On the Upper West Side of Manhattan, Krystal and Tiffany Wheeler earn high school credits in adjacent pastel bedrooms after breakfast. The teachers come to them.
Their mother, Charlene Royce, said she wanted her girls to experience the benefits of a personalized education but did not feel comfortable teaching herself.
"I feel that education is better this way, one on one," said Ms. Royce, whose expertise is in finding electronics companies in which to invest. "It was never an option for me to do it — I wouldn't know how."
Reply - PuterPrsn, on 01/02/2009, -0/+7Amen! As a figure of speech, anyway. We homeschooled because the education was more well-rounded and intensive. When my youngest had to go back to public school, she was two years ahead of her peers in all subjects, especially in math. It made my cry to see her slowing down to the public school pace.
- bubbakja, on 01/03/2009, -0/+7Which YOU'RE not.
- Nannybell, on 01/03/2009, -5/+11The NEA is a perverse, entirely liberal organization. Its control of the public school systems in America should be stopped. There is nothing balanced about having one ideology in control of all children in America, but it is.
Vouchers is the fair policy. I despise what public schools stand for today, yet I am forced to pay taxes to support them. I will have to continue to pay those taxes, but would have the comfort of knowing that people are not forced to send their children to schools they abhor.
Homeschool if at all possible. - davidmesaaz, on 01/03/2009, -0/+3Homeschooling is not only for fundementalist christians

"Public schooling is expensive. Public schooling is inefficient. Critics frequently make these charges and educators usually deny them. The facts, however, are clear. Public school spending per pupil, adjusted for inflation, has skyrocketed over the course of the twentieth century while student achievement has not only failed to improve overall, it has declined in several areas." - MelekTawus, on 01/03/2009, -2/+4I'd like to see a cite for the claim that colleges are seeking out home schooled children. I know that many colleges require extra paperwork and testing for home schooled children as their achievement is generally not measured as accurately, and home schooled students usually have a lot of problem with structured learning environments away from home and often bring either stubborn adherance to strange beliefs or staggering gaps in their knowledge.
There are exceptions, and I guess things are better now than back when I was in school and nearly all home schooled children were kept out of school due to superstitious fundamentalism, but I have never met a home schooled student who didn't have academic problems in institutions of higher learning due to their lack of experience in "real" schools. Some can overcome the handicaps inherent in home schooling, but many cannot. - ThsGuyRightHere, on 01/03/2009, -1/+2@jwalt: As of 9am central time on January third you wrote your original comment almost twelve hours ago. This is the first time I've signed into digg since I wrote my original comment. Not all of us live on digg assclown.
Not that you actually deserve a rebuttal. You've shown pretty well that you're head is firmly up your ass, and no amount of intelligent discourse is going to change that.
But here's a little for you to chew on: first you say "all of these I have researched". Now listen up scooter, just because you read something on WND or drudge that doesn't qualify as objective research.
Incidentally, Ron Paul didn't try to have Bush impeached. That was Kucinich. Dr. Paul voiced his support for articles of impeachment but Kucinich was the one who introduced them.
Honestly though I don't know why I'm trying... if you buy the eligibility BS then the only thing that will help you operate as a thinking functional human being is a lobotomy. Piss off. - ThsGuyRightHere, on 01/04/2009, -0/+1"Answers". Not "Answer's". We're done here.

Pointing out truths are Childish? ...and by the way I never supported Ron Paul, "IF, you actually read the entire piece."
I won't stoop to your level, by calling you names.
...and this was meant for another comment, by a person who challenged me below. This comment wasn't meant for you, but you want to play the game, "I'll Play!"
Go drink some kool-aid, cause everything I wrote was Plausible from a respectable, id for thought. "Deniability is your answer"
The answer for criminals and what they cling, too. (Plausible Deniability)
Maybe, just maybe, "That is your Mantra."
"I think you are the one who needs to calm down." - SteveMTyler, on 01/03/2009, -1/+2It's obvious that English is not jwalts first language, so I think you have to give a pass on most of the spelling/grammar errors.
- farmmom3, on 01/06/2009, -0/+0You sir must not know many well educated homeschooled individuals who are and have done quite well in a "structured" educational environment, post homeschooling. And there are well documented studies and cases where these individuals are better socially adept than their same aged counterparts. Homeschooling is not only for fundalmentalist christians (many religions are doing it; and if you research you will find the number 1 reason to homeschool is safety related and lack of schools doing a better job)and if we are all not careful the rights of the parent will be overturned in this country as we know it with any adoption of the UN treaty on the rights of a child which virtually turns over "all" decisions to the federal government. Do you want that to occur in this generations and future ones? think about the effect of that!!!!!
- inactive, on 01/03/2009, -1/+1I gave you Perfectly Credible Answer's to everything you wanted, not, to hear, and you can't answer a single one, except Kucinich which was who I meant and the Birth Certificate Thing, to which has been excepted by the Appeals Court and said has major plausibility!" (NYT, back article, 2 weeks ago.)
Why are you so Pissed-off? Because "I'm Right.
Supplying a response with, "Swearing, Verbal Attacks, and Heated Bloviations’ are your answer!" Your Ignorance astounds me.
I don't read what ever Drudge is or what ever the other thing is, (WND?) I read Historical Books, that portray factual Info, like, "The Wall Street Journal, and the New York Times editorials and the Library Of Congress."
You are a Hot Head and the other person who replied, SteveMTyler, is just as deluded as you. If he thinks I spelled anything wrong and that's the best he's got for answers he's as sad an excuse - for a Pontificator as *you.*
Sad, Sad, People. - inactive, on 01/03/2009, -2/+1Homeschooling is the way to go if you can do it..... (and your literate)
