- black27696, on 10/23/2009, -5/+94Legalize it, tax it. There, I just solved the economic crisis, and I don't even smoke pot!
- TVarmy, on 10/23/2009, -1/+52I'd have to put down the controller, bong, and/or pizza. No way, man.
- jordantneff, on 10/23/2009, -2/+39High time to get a new server.
- bradleyland, on 10/23/2009, -2/+34$12 billion a year to prosecute potheads!? You've got to be ***** kidding me. With all the world's problems, we spend $12 bn a year on this *****. I'm not a pot smoker, personally, but this is just ***** retarded.
- mparker21311, on 10/23/2009, -3/+32Dude, that's the American Dream.
- Spirods, on 10/23/2009, -2/+28Warning, pun getting old
- valetudomexican, on 10/23/2009, -2/+22I'm tired of pot being illegal.

- sipsyrup, on 10/23/2009, -2/+21I'll just digg you up, since raising my had to myself is just silly.
- elcalrissian, on 10/23/2009, -2/+19Meh, dont let the Yankees fan bring you down. They are never pleased.
- Cassanova, on 10/23/2009, -4/+20I can't believe how fast this is happening. We go years without any progress and once Obama is in office, things start falling in place. There are even companies like Medical Marijuana Inc. that are publicly traded or that theres that other place that used an old KFC building to sell medical marijuana. It's crazy. Pretty soon we are going to start seeing vending machines stocked full of this stuff. Can't wait.
- T8erT0T, on 10/23/2009, -1/+1718 yrs to purchase/grow, law against driving under the influence/while baked, tax, holla
- Cepster, on 10/23/2009, -1/+17Why don't you buy the new XBox 360 SOY unit?
- heliumflash, on 10/23/2009, -3/+18I'm ***** tired of these lame ass headlines that are like "New poll shows there is HIGH support for legalization" or "High Time to Legalize"
- HeyyyJoe, on 10/23/2009, -5/+18Seriously though, it will probably be legal in California within a couple years. The question isn't whether pot should be legal or not, its how to implement the law.
- Shwaavay, on 10/23/2009, -1/+13Even with the tax it would cost just a few dollars an ounce. A pack of cigarettes has about an ounce of tobacco in it, and it costs between $5 and $10 depending on the state. I would assume that marijuana would have a comparable production cost.
Some people would grow their own, but only about as many as grow their own tomatoes. - Trav1289, on 10/23/2009, -1/+13Am I the only one who likes to eat fruit when high?
- TVarmy, on 10/23/2009, -3/+14THIS ISN'T THE COUNTRY I GREW UP IN! I'M SCARED!

http://rorr.im/digg.com/educational/high_time_to_l ... - MediaCrisis, on 10/23/2009, -1/+11You'd still pay sales tax on the seeds and equipment. Plus, not everyone would grow their own. I'd consider it, but I couldn't even keep a cactus alive. A lot of people will opt for pre-rolled.
- TVarmy, on 10/23/2009, -3/+13Even though that's a good argument, I can just imagine the right wing spin.
Glenn Beck: There's a lot of talk about legalizing marijuana. THEY argue that weed could be taxed to increase GOVERNMENT revenues, and thus possibly reduce taxes. That's a boldfaced lie. The government would use the extra taxes to fund more amoral programs, like death panels and forced abortions to continue to aggressively push their eugenics agenda. Chances are they'll euthanize those with cancer and glaucoma first to ensure that lucrative recreational users remain the prime consumers. This is why Reagan starved the beast, and why Benjamin Franklin said that we should make sure the death of taxation is constant!
Sean Hannity: This Obama guy, he's really waxing my neck, you know? Listen to this quote: "In order to stimulate the economy, I will... marijuana... your children... in public." It sounds to me Obama is pushing a pro-intoxication program, and that sounds a little unAmerican to me.
Rush Limbaugh: I love a good cigar, but marijuana legalization is just not a good idea. It opens the door to the government legalizing all sorts of things going in pipes and cigarettes. Imagine how you'd feel if you found out that your favorite cigar now contained fiberglass and hemlock? In Obama's America, the tobacco really is poison. - duewydo, on 10/23/2009, -0/+10if you are saying that taxing wouldn't work because I could just grow my own, then why do people buy cigarettes? they could grow their own and roll their own legally and it would be a lot healthier.
- caramba421, on 10/23/2009, -1/+10Ummm...I don't know if you know this about old people, but they die eventually.
- expert01, on 10/23/2009, -1/+10Or fruit roll-ups
- ToksterJokster, on 10/23/2009, -6/+15When weed is legalized, it will change the United States... Completely...
- matthewschnoor, on 10/23/2009, -1/+9The infograph isn't exactly correct. It says that marijuana is decriminalized in Michigan. This is only the case in the city of Ann Arbor. For the rest of us, it's still very much illegal.
- a2love, on 10/23/2009, -0/+8Just hold a bag of doritos infront of their face. If their eyes go wide and they try to grab it they are stoned. Its science people.
- imsohigh, on 10/23/2009, -1/+9Growing Cannabis THE PROPER WAY to yield high THC and "good" bud is not easy. It is far from "literally like growing a weed."
- Hetman, on 10/23/2009, -1/+9Obviously smoking in public places would still be banned like cigerettes. 1) I do not care about your kids, becuase I do not have any. 2) Contact highes do not actually exist regardless of what people say. 3) Marijuana is a pain killer so it does help with arthritis.
- THEbarber, on 10/23/2009, -3/+11No pot for me, thanks, its ILLEGAL and therefore VERY BAD FOR ME.
I'd rather get drunk on alcohol, which is both LEGAL and heavily marketed by for-profit multinational corporations. Maybe I'll go get really sloppy and aggressive at a bar, get in a fight and try f#@& the first chick I see. Later,I might even drive home drunk and kill a promising young student crossing the street, or a nurse on her way to work. Or I'll just drink at home, yell at my wife and beat my kids before throwing up on myself and passing out. Oh, and don't forget to remind me to sign up for a liver transplant before the cirrhosis gets out of hand.
Yeah, those *hic* damn potheads need to go to jail and *hic* stop ruining it for all us law-abiding citizens. - stoned420247, on 10/24/2009, -2/+10No. I'm a cancer survivor and used it after my chemo, because I was throwing up violently, and had sever pain. After that, my DOCTOR(although I live in a state with no medical marijuana laws.) who's been a family friend for years recommended medicinal marijuana to help me with my Rheumatoid Arthritis. I'm a business owner and making my living tattooing. I would NOT be where I am right now if I did not have cannabis, I couldn't hold my brushes or tattoo guns for no longer than 5 minutes at a time.
So if you would like to do stereotypes then you my friend fail. Your ignorant, and have no idea what your talking about. More than half of the population has tried marijuana, and the majority of Americans support the legalization of medicinal marijuana. In a few years, marijuana WILL be legalized in a few States, and you would be the ignorant minority. - Hetman, on 10/23/2009, -1/+9I am tired of both,
- DankBuddz, on 10/23/2009, -0/+7I think it might be the other way around...
- T8erT0T, on 10/23/2009, -0/+7Wouldn't matter to me, I say whichever so long as it comes out the door.
It's not like the 21 drinking age really stops kids from drinking anyway. Furthermore, it's not like weed being illegal keeps people from smoking it anyway regardless of age. But let the legislature use whatever methods of denial its familiar with. - MidnightReign, on 10/23/2009, -0/+7Great points in this thread.
1. "I'd just grow my own" ... Well, what if part of the legalization is a grower's license at $500/year? Sure, you could grow without it, like people already grow illegally, but you'd be a potential target for tax evasion charges. Not pretty.
2. "Everyone would grow it." ... So why doesn't everyone brew his/her own beer? That's legal, 100 gallons a year per person. I think most people would probably opt for the easy solution, and buy it from a retail establishment. Besides, you could experiment with new and interesting products/strains that way, without having to baby the plants from clone to harvest. Almost certainly, some strains would be developed under trademarks and patents by agribusinesses like Monsanto.
3. "It would still be a few bucks an ounce, even with tax." Not if the tax rate is $35/oz. Think about it, the .gov could put whatever tax on it they liked, and most of us would still pay it just so nobody would hassle us about it. - stoned420247, on 10/23/2009, -5/+12Very good! We are on the tipping point!
- rdurdle, on 10/23/2009, -1/+8Its actually illegal to grow tobacco on your own without .gov clearance
- pauliusuza, on 10/23/2009, -0/+7Dude, I cannot digg you up when I raise my hand...
- MidnightReign, on 10/23/2009, -1/+8Oh, yeah... after all, it's not like there aren't already 20 million people in this country who smoke on a semi-regular basis anyway.
The streets would be filled with chaos from all the stoners driving 30mph on the highway, la-z-boy stores would run out of couches, dogs and cats would be living together. Mass hysteria, I tell you. - ToastedFart, on 10/23/2009, -0/+7Although I think it should be 18 too, I wouldn't be surprised if they made it 21.
- Staggx, on 10/23/2009, -6/+13Yay drugs!
- MediaCrisis, on 10/23/2009, -0/+7Economically, yes. Socially? Not so much. We're all high as ***** already, the only thing that will change is that we can finally grow industrial hemp and we will be able to stop building so many privatized prisons. There's going to be a shift in where the money is going and coming from, and some industries are dreading it. Public health is not why marijuana is illegal.
- Solkre, on 10/23/2009, -0/+6It's High Time we got a new slogan!
- a2love, on 10/23/2009, -0/+6I dunno... i think alot of steriotypes are starting to be wiped out about stoners. There are one hell of alot of 30 something mothers/fathers that are cool with the stuff... the lies people have been telling about it are starting to crumble and the peeps are quick to pick up the bong.
I myself attended 2 universities at the same time, toked constantly, and made it on the deans list. Just one example, but we gotta change hearts and minds people... hearts and minds. - BenTheTank, on 10/23/2009, -3/+9If it was legal I would just grow my own. Especially if a heavy tax was imposed.
- Jacob, on 10/23/2009, -0/+6There is no such thing as "contact high" second hand marijuana smoke will not get anyone high. If you are sitting in a very small enclosed room like a closet with someone who is smoking, they would need to smoke so much weed it's not even practical to talk about it. As for the argument that banning cigarettes in public places is justification for keeping weed illegal, I would like to see a study that says second hand marijuana smoke does any harm. And for the record I don't smoke cigarettes but I hate when they ban cigarettes from public places. Outside should be fine for people to smoke anywhere (obviously they shouldn't blow smoke into people's faces or nonsense like that) and as for inside it should be up to the owner of the place. If a bar wants to be nonsmoking that's their prerogative, nobody should force them to be (waitresses can get a job somewhere else if they don't like it, they know when they get the job that it's a smoking environment). As for what will stop the children from getting high I would have to say that would be their parents job, just like how it should be their job to keep their kids from drinking or smoking cigarettes they should stop them from smoking weed. Plus when I was in high school it was easier to get weed than alcohol, drug dealers don't ID alcohol distributors do.
- kahlessreborn, on 10/23/2009, -2/+8How about an actualy usefull graphic or website such as this one which acutally educates you about your states laws:
http://norml.org/index.cfm?Group_ID=4516 - a2love, on 10/23/2009, -0/+6gotta remember - people's laziness added with convenience of picking up a dime bag at a local store means the gov will pull down a huge profit. Even if people grow their own. Plus, gov pot will be controlled, you know exactly what was used on it, etc.
Also, basic economics says that if the gov (or licensees) are producing pot, and local producers are trying to undercut their prices, the companies will be forced to stay competitive. Prices lower, everyone wins. - BenTheTank, on 10/23/2009, -0/+6@Trav,
