- novenator, on 07/12/2009, -9/+433Legalize it, regulate it, tax it. Everyone wins except the drug-war extremists and their for-profit prison industry.

You'll digg this story up... but what else will you do?
Use your voice, contact your represenative. Tell them to end this failure of a drug war.
https://secure2.convio.net/mpp/site/Advocacy?cmd=d ... - alexacastrato, on 07/13/2009, -5/+161***** LEGALIZE IT ALREADY. This namby-pamby dancing around the issue has gone on too long. Cops in Los Angeles don't give a DAMN anymore about pot, no one cares if you smoke it and enjoy it in the comfort and safety of your own home! The part of LA I live in is populated by mostly elderly people, the DEA busted in our local dispensary a few months ago (AFTER Obama promised no more raids, argh!), confiscated all the marijuana, took 10k in cash, and had the employees (salt of the earth guys) sit in handcuffs for 4 hours in the sun. They also took the plasma tv and fish tank, but left a few fish behind dying (WTF?). Makes no god damn sense, and they didn't write a SINGLE REPORT or make a SINGLE ARREST. But they had time to kill some fish, rob a place, and steal medicine from old people many of whom are cancer sufferers.
This has gone on way too long, it's a ***** plant. You can chug robitussin and trip your balls off but it's available at your nearest grocery store. Salvia, the "legal alternative" to pot makes you trip your ass off too, and is MUCH more dangerous.
WTF AMERICA - RiperSnifle, on 07/13/2009, -3/+129The war on drugs is a giant shipment of fail.
- taikyokuken, on 07/13/2009, -5/+115Dugg for the submitter's ballsy profile pic.
- dinglebutt, on 07/13/2009, -9/+116Digg needs a "Legalize Marijuana" category.
- trashymac, on 07/13/2009, -2/+75I don't even smoke and I say legalize it. I may never use it, but I should at least have the choice.
- tgc1, on 07/13/2009, -2/+74Re-Legalize it.
- phogasmic, on 07/13/2009, -3/+61I forsee that one of the bright sides of this economic downturn is going to be the legalization of marijuana.
- Barackalypse, on 07/13/2009, -2/+51Its sad that the only reason they are considering legalizing it is because they can tax it, I worry about the rights I have now that generate no revenue for the Government.
- inactive, on 07/13/2009, -4/+45Yep. Time for a debate!
- Tddupre, on 07/13/2009, -2/+42FTA:
"The marijuana of the 1960s and Woodstock is not what's being sold on the streets in the United States today, said Chief Bernard Melekian, head of the California Police Chiefs Association. "The narcotic portion, the THC of marijuana in the '60s, hovered around one or two percent. THC today is around 27 to 30 percent."
This is an absolute lie, the THC level is around 3-4% now - Disastrophe, on 07/13/2009, -2/+35FTA: "I thought it was high time, no pun intended, for this to be on the table," Ammiano said. "I'm trying to beat everybody to the punch with the jokes, because I get a lot of 'em," he laughed
Isn't the pun most certainly intended if you are trying to make the joke before someone else gets to it? - steelersfan7roe, on 07/13/2009, -4/+33High quality bud takes more time, equipment and hard work than most people are willing to go through.
The price will drop, but it will still be very very profitable. The key is that money will stop being spent enforcing bad laws and instead will switch to revenue. - TheUnlearn, on 07/13/2009, -3/+29Buried for acting like the GOP are the only ones against legalization.
- BrownieMix, on 07/13/2009, -6/+31Drugs in general need to be legalized, not just Marijuana. People need to be responsible for their own actions, not make the government waste millions of dollars trying to baby them. Call representatives, protest if you need to, support this cause.
- XkenX87, on 07/13/2009, -3/+28FREEDOM. PLEASE. or we may riot.
- taikyokuken, on 07/13/2009, -0/+25Also smoke pot, and do it responsibly and in moderation, and appropriate to your medical needs. Don't let the uneducated bring you down.
- linkesslover, on 07/13/2009, -3/+27Find out what you can do in YOUR STATE.
For example, california has a bill that will be voted on that will legalize, regulate and tax cannabis.
https://ssl.capwiz.com/mpp/issues/alert/?alertid=1 ... - inactive, on 07/13/2009, -3/+25Amsterdam isn't in an Economic Crisis, nor does it need to pay for Michael Jackson's funeral along with other various bills... tax refunds (IOU) etc.
California, like most of the USA has been writing checks that can't be cashed. Pot would indeed solve that problem. If you don't think so, you're just not doing the math right. - TheSkunkMonkey, on 07/13/2009, -0/+22"The narcotic portion, the THC of marijuana in the '60s, hovered around one or two percent. "
MARIJUANA IS NOT A NARCOTIC. Holy ***** that statement is so full of propaganda ***** I can smell it from the east coast. - inactive, on 07/13/2009, -4/+25CUT THE ***** ALREADY, JUST LEGALIZE IT!!! ***** MAN, I AM SOOO TIRED OF THIS LITTLE HYPOCRISY CRAP.
Oh, gay marriage is immoral, we can't! Oh, prostitution is obscene! Oh, abortion is indecent! Oh, pot is a danger to our children! JESUS ***** CHRIST MAN, WE'RE LIVING IN MEDIEVAL TIMES. 200 YEARS FROM NOW, IF HUMANITY IS STILL ALIVE AND PEOPLE STOP THIS STUPID *****, THEEEN WE'LL LOOK BACK AN LAUGH.
But no, not now, we have to "debate these complicated issues" because it "offends some people". THIS IS ***** DISGUSTING, CAN SOMEONE JUST CUT THE ***** AND LEGALIZE ALREADY? - xenuxenuts, on 07/13/2009, -0/+20My guess is that they took THC levels of crappy, low end dirt weed for the 60s number and are comparing them to slightly exaggerated numbers taken from top end buds grown indoors in the US.
- andrewlotta, on 07/13/2009, -2/+22It isn't meant to completely fix the ***** state of the economy
But it is a step in the right direction. Especially since it is a painkiller that causes minimal or no harm to the user, unlike...nearly every other legal painkiller drug.
I watch Cops and laugh. People in possession of solely marijuana get pulled over on routine stops and are usually down-to-earth people who just want to get home. The people drinking alcohol are the ones beating their wives and children, not to mention slowly killing their insides. But for some reason, most police don't seem to notice this, or maybe they do and just keep their mouths shut. Maybe they just like action?
I was watching an episode today and a cop pulled three marijuana pipes (the cop smelled each and said they all smelled of marijuana residue) out of a relaxed young man's center console. He then pulled out an empty baggy with white residue (THC) in it and said something like, "well this appears to be cocaine or meth residue". - steelersfan7roe, on 07/13/2009, -0/+19FREEDOM. PLEASE. Or we may digg.
- XkenX87, on 07/13/2009, -0/+18Yeah but then I could just go down the line digging it all instead of having to read it.
- steelersfan7roe, on 07/13/2009, -0/+18Cannabis can be consumed orally or with a vaporizer.
The oral consumption or vaporization of cannabis is the safest drug out there. - inactive, on 07/13/2009, -0/+17I really hope so. I was recently introduced to this awesome plant.
- marx2k, on 07/13/2009, -1/+18Spire3660: Have you bought a pack of cigs lately?
- KingGorilla, on 07/13/2009, -4/+20Desperate times call for sensible measures
- iEATcatFOOD, on 07/13/2009, -2/+18I don't smoke pot, yet I support it's legalization. Smoking pot will only put me in jail, and lose my representation in arguments as the non-smoker.
I'm a powerful opponent in these debates, as people do not see me as that "one guy who just wants to get high all day" and has their argument thrown away.
Also, I have no need of it. - Strenoth, on 07/13/2009, -0/+15Don't forget the organized crime gangs, they loose a major source of income.
Their involvement in growing Hemp is a very good reason to legalize it. It takes away their profit. Sure, it might be $50/ounce sold of tax, but if you grow it yourself... - LBWayward, on 07/13/2009, -1/+16These "high" puns are really starting to grind on me.
- o76923, on 07/13/2009, -0/+14big cotton, big paper, and big pharma get hurt too
- JCrack34, on 07/13/2009, -0/+14guilty till proven innocent right?
- popophobia, on 07/13/2009, -0/+13:))
one more source of income for the state, it wouldn't make you rich as *****, but it'll help pay the bills.
And Amsterdam, how many people has visited it because pot is legal there? What Amsterdam the first thing you think of when talking about pot? They achieve their point right there. Tourism you stupid fck - ROBINEW, on 07/13/2009, -4/+17Why even bother to tax it. Its a harmless weed ! ! !
- inactive, on 07/13/2009, -3/+16Your point? We will save precious tax dollars imprisoning people for smoking and or selling a PLANT. All those cops arresting "bad" people for growing or selling are now free to actually work for a living. You know. Giving tickets for not wearing your seat belt, and various other as-sundry illegal enterprises.
- steelersfan7roe, on 07/13/2009, -1/+13@ drmobutu
I don't think it's "tax everything" people that are "targeting marijuana users."
Marijuana users are already paying money every day, month and year to buy their product. They would rather pay the government than street dealers, and don't want cops on their backs. - RepublicofJosh, on 07/13/2009, -0/+12All the hippies from the 60's already moved to California... And in case you didn't read the article, there's a lot more range of people that smoke weed these days.
FTA - Next door to where Lee sells marijuana, Gertha Hays sells clothes. She says the dispensary brings people from all walks of life. "There's no particular pothead," she said, "so everyone comes over there."
Why don't people click the link and read before posting!? - dstz, on 07/13/2009, -0/+11 To quote Bill Maher, in the unrelated movie Religulous, "not just corrupt, but, like, *****-little-kids corrupt." Applies well to prohibition.
- guestaccount, on 07/13/2009, -0/+11"And, while you're all in support of publicly available cannabis, remember that research still has not disproved the allegation that it decreases sperm motility and virile capacity. I have a broad research library on the topic - I eagerly await the evidence that there's is no reproductive impact. Post it, I'll rally that. Until then, the legalization of marijuana would be akin to eugenics."
And tobacco kills you. Its still a personal freedom to smoke it. - sharkydog, on 07/13/2009, -1/+12I'm sorry, but I just can't see the societal benefits of legalizing crystal meth.
- Chiefsfan42, on 07/13/2009, -0/+11I contacted my congresswoman last November about Marijuana, and she responded in a negative way, siting studies nearly 10 years old to tell me how bad pot was. At the end of June, I sent yet another e-mail. Her reply was much different. She told me where the bill was at in Congress, and to "please be assured I will keep your thoughts in mind should this bill come before the House." While not definitive, the significantly different tone of this reply was encouraging.
It does not hurt to try. If your representatives get enough e-mails about it, they have no choice but to give it some thought. Send e-mails with personal experiences about how you use it responsibly, how it has helped you. It is important to step up grassroots activities in this important time when we are seeing more mainstream media coverage than ever. We need politicians to know that supporting drug reform is no longer political suicide. - tgc1, on 07/13/2009, -0/+11Always has been, always will be.
All aboard the fail boat. - inactive, on 07/13/2009, -1/+11So, grow your own...
- inactive, on 07/13/2009, -3/+13Terrible terrible argument. You can easilllly make liquor and beer too in massive quantities. I don't see that industry suffering.
- PeppermintPig, on 07/13/2009, -1/+11
"it's not like California doesn't make a ***** of money already"
Minor correction:
It's not like California doesn't tax and waste a ***** of money already. - Hazardc, on 07/13/2009, -0/+10some actually goes up just above 20%..but people typically just smoke less when they smoke the good stuff.
- TheUnlearn, on 07/13/2009, -1/+1040 LB box of rape?
