- stg3095, on 11/12/2007, -4/+117Someone buy this guy a tripod so he can use both hands.
- TheKorn2, on 11/14/2007, -2/+85It's about as high-def as throwing crayons at a water buffalo.
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 11/12/2007, -6/+84This is the lamest fake tutorial I've seen in a while.
Anyone oblivious enough to try this can enjoy their silence. - inactive, on 11/11/2007, -5/+51um,am i the only one that noticed that both the positive and ground wires in the speaker cable are twisted together in the video?
sounds like a big pile of ***** to me. - EXreaction, on 11/13/2007, -2/+41You were the one saying the microwave can't fix cd's either, weren't you? LIES!
- nullcodes, on 11/13/2007, -7/+44Umm, I'm testing it --- this speaker sucks ..a lot of arbitrary noise and piercing high notes. You get what you pay for! I can tell cause am playing Celine Dion on it and it doesn't sound good at all. No wait, maybe it's the music.
- mattmeow, on 11/12/2007, -7/+42How is this "High-Def"? I bet it sounds like crap...
- inactive, on 11/11/2007, -1/+34It isn't. He's just jumping on the HiDef bandwagon. Speaker quality is usually described in terms of Fidelity, not definition. If a salesrep ever tries to sell you "High Definition" speakers, turn around and walk out the door. There ain't no such animal.
- jasg, on 11/09/2007, -0/+32no need, he should be able to build it himself..ha ha
- inactive, on 11/11/2007, -0/+32be a man and use your teeth.
- KevenM, on 11/13/2007, -2/+31I wonder if it'll work with $34,000 speaker cable.
- CeeJayDK, on 11/10/2007, -3/+32This guy and the many diggers in this thread who play along with the hoax seriously needs to grow up.
This is the lamest thing I've seen all week. - inactive, on 11/11/2007, -0/+28Same here, BS, I gave it the benefit of the doubt and tried it anyway. DEFINITELY a hoax..
- rhgtp, on 11/11/2007, -5/+31Very cool.
Next video- how to make a $2 tripod! - bobartig, on 11/11/2007, -4/+25He's using the penny as a voice coil, but hasn't wired it up properly. Additionally, his speaker has no magnet, so even if his penny were wired properly (to place an alternating current across it), it would not do anything because it's not in the presence of a strong magnetic field.
Even if he had that magnet (magnetic paper plate?), the foil he's using isn't rigid enough to move air linearly, meaning the sound quality would be terrible. - firblitz, on 11/11/2007, -0/+21I noticed. Complete BS.
- HollowGrind, on 11/13/2007, -3/+24i feel so stupid for actually trying
... it didn't work like AT ALL
now im really ashamed of getting fooled like this but well i just wanted to come forward with this to prevent other gullible people from trying
(just like raped people shouldnt shut up caus theyre ashamed XD) - g4blows, on 11/11/2007, -1/+21I don't think that everyone thinks that it is a joke.
- mrblonde314, on 11/10/2007, -1/+21Microwaves fixing CD's, panning for gold with vinegar and baking soda, running a tv off a AAA battery, and now a tinfoil plate speaker. I don't know if I should still be laughing or if this is getting old and annoying. Next fad please.
- androothebear, on 11/09/2007, -0/+19Wait.... so did i just ruin a pair of decent headphones for nothing.....? i feel like quite the fool........
- jubyloo, on 11/09/2007, -1/+19That's what she said.
- ropers, on 11/09/2007, -4/+22More of the same: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rA-zhTJuFU
- brent0n, on 11/10/2007, -3/+21why do people digg this *****?
- probrian, on 11/11/2007, -1/+18that's pretty high-def!
- Humptydank, on 11/11/2007, -1/+16These are getting old. The first 10,000 were funny. Somebody get my cane.
- firblitz, on 11/11/2007, -10/+24These comments seem... pre-packaged.
- FTLJohnson, on 11/11/2007, -1/+15For anyone not wanting to get suckered in by a hoax...
http://digg.com/mods/How_to_ACTUALLY_make_a_speake ...
or here's a video of some geeks building speakers from a kit with a blonde girl that is easy on the eyes...
http://cdn.libsyn.com/gadgetgarage/GG1-Speakers.m4 ... - gonegoogling, on 11/11/2007, -2/+16mine works great, works even better if i put it next to my tin foil hat!
- hypher, on 11/11/2007, -0/+13And even if they wern't, where would you connect them? There is electrical continuity throughout that whole thing, as far as everything I know about electronics, it cannot work.
- jiminizer, on 11/13/2007, -12/+24I don't understand why everyone is just goin along with this? It is obviously a hoax, yet hardly anyone has posted saying so. First, as has already been pointed out, the signal and ground wires are touching, forming a short - the current would take this rout as it has a lower resistance than any tin foil setup. Secondly, theres no magnets - one of the most important parts of a speaker! Just looking at this you know it can't possibly work, so why are so many people going along with it? =S
- Roger, on 11/09/2007, -0/+11I think it requires $34,000 speaker cable to work.
- donmanguno, on 11/09/2007, -0/+11how is that almost the same principle at all?
- firblitz, on 11/13/2007, -2/+13It's some organized effort to digg BS up and digg down opposing comments. Please bury.
- cruzlee, on 11/11/2007, -5/+15Dude, i bet you didn't even try it. They sound pretty ok.
- cruzlee, on 11/13/2007, -2/+12lol
- joltjake, on 11/11/2007, -1/+11yeah, it isn't "High-Def" because the thing is a hoax.
- inactive, on 11/09/2007, -3/+12Can there possibly be any bass from a speaker like this?
- scuzzphut, on 11/11/2007, -10/+19I made 7 of these with the most expensive paper plates I could find and some silver coated aluminium foil.
I used silver dollars instead of pennies.
The sound is *seriously* better than my Tannoy M1s through my Cambridge Audio amp.
Great project - EXreaction, on 11/11/2007, -1/+10It isn't calling your speakers High Definition...that is the name of your audio chipset.
- xenuxenuts, on 11/10/2007, -5/+14It's pretty obvious that it's a joke.
- MattB123, on 11/09/2007, -2/+10Neat, but what I really want to know is what makes this "High-Def". If this is the High-Def one, what is the Low-Def version like?
- AutumnWindz, on 11/09/2007, -3/+11why the ***** is this on the front page?
- subat0mic, on 11/09/2007, -1/+9your hard drive has speakers? how weird.
- GregR, on 11/11/2007, -0/+7A good way to short out your stereo.
Wouldn't there be 3 wires in that cable? - davidrools, on 11/09/2007, -0/+7A 9.1 system would sound just like a 5.1 system if that's what your source material is mixed as.
- inactive, on 11/11/2007, -2/+9To produce Bass, a speaker needs to push a bit of air. Since there is very little movement due to the foil. Not really.
There just isn't enough travel imho. - legalcondom, on 11/10/2007, -19/+25I can't believe how good the sound is, better than the hard drive speaker and much more affordable.
- LumberjackBauer, on 11/11/2007, -24/+30Very cool. I just tried this with an old copper heat sink I had and it worked better than the penny. But of course, not everyone has a copper heat sink. I wonder what a 9.1 system sounds like. Going to find out.
- rootnik, on 11/09/2007, -1/+7hard drive speaker?
- mgd4, on 11/09/2007, -4/+10Watch out Bose!
