- gcnaddict, on 10/12/2007, -4/+51This video was shown on several news syndicates in the US after it was caught on tape during a storm which rolled through Japan. It's fairly old. (video date even says May 19, 2006)
For the record, it isn't a miniature model. - TheoBrixton, on 10/12/2007, -7/+48Godzirra?

The first video the road was also probably closed because of cracks in the pavement. - mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Spanish description to English: "earth sliding in Japan"

Damn that makes me feel ancient - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -13/+29MATT DAMON!!!
- sTiVo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15There had probably been some sliding a bit earlier, or at least recognized the potential slide about to happen and they blocked the road and turned on the camera. This isn't staged. It happens now and again, but it's always interesting to catch it on video.
- daofma, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14It'd add a whole new element to skifree.
- DAMU, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16It does seem like knew what was going to happen, perhaps there had been some major rain and they had blocked off that section and they were just waiting for that to happen. I wish all videos came with a backstory.
dam - actorboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12You saw this years ago? Dude, you are so cooler than us. You should have posted it.

Japan Landslide Caught on Video
Web Editor: Tracey Christensen
Last Modified: 8/10/2004 1:57:03 PM
A huge landslide was caught on camera in Japan's central Nara region on Tuesday after heavy rains in the region.
The landslide was recorded as it happened by staff from the Japanese Ministry of Land, who were inspecting the region for instability.
The Kinki region of the Nara Prefecture has experienced unusually heavy rains in the past few weeks.
The landslide completely blocked a major mountain roadway, but nobody was injured in the incident.
Landslides are common in Japan where around 70 percent of the landscape is mountainous or hilly. - redforty, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A57tCNwG77E&mode=related&search=
Here's the same video with an areal view - Thex1138, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6That would relocate your house fairly efficiently I imagine..
- themarkshow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6ok how does this have 600 diggs when the youtube site video has only been seen 300 times?
- borninda818, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7did anyone else find hundreds f trees rolling down a hill amusing?
- bigbchew, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6That's why you obey roadblocks
- TheoBrixton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Oh I see what you did there.
- lorensingley, on 10/12/2007, -7/+11So I guess the lesson here is put GOJIRRA in your response and get dugg up? Feel free to digg this down.
- rheaume, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5They can digg you down all they want but the fact of the matter is, you are 100% right.
- reva, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4How is there more diggs on this story than there are views on the actual YouTube video?
- theprez, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Interesting to see that happen and the destruction it causes, but I have to say I HATE titles and descriptions like these. "Guess what happens next?" You get to the front page of digg. Lame title and description. Dugg because of the video.
- newbietheatre, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I like the You Tubers comment - "Man, those ents were in a godamn hurry."
- slundal, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Yeah, we kinda already got that part ;)
- eclectro, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Well, that can't be good.

(Whatever XD means...) - michaelyork29, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Wow...lots of digg downs...! That was an amazing clip. Great job for finding!
- Desidarius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3XD is an eyes closed, mouth open OMG sort of smiley face. I wouldn't consider it asian though. I would call (^_^) a typical asian smiley face, most asian emoticons don't go sideways though D: seems to be asian.

(-_-;) - ProphetSix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3So now we know what REALLY happened to Sonny Bono....
Damned killer trees. - BadMonkey0001, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6kakwakas recalled "History shows again and again how nature points out the folly of man."
Also appropriate is the opening lyric: "With a purposeful grimace and a terrible sound he pulls the spitting high tension wires down"
Oh no! GOJIRA! - Quakes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah, it's a lot easier to catch you americans off guard. Damn crafty japanese.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3description was too vague... i hate when people waste my time with vague descriptions... i'm not gonna click every single video that someone tells me to "check out" just because he thinks it's good.
- NikoKun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Believe it or not, this happened while I was actually in Japan!
So for the whole week after, it was replayed on the news over and over... If I remember correctly. XD
And then my parents heard about it, and had to call me to make sure I was ok. XDXD
Wasn't this around that time the there was all that news about some nuclear plant releasing weird gasses?
there were also like 3 typhoons durring that 2 weeks I was there... XD
What a vacation that was... XD - ub3rgeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2what else would you digg a story for if you did not enjoy what said digg story links to?
- savingadvice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yes, happened in Japan while I was still living there so had to be sometime before May 2006. I don't remember the exact date, but remember seeing it consistently on the news for several days. There had been heavy rains in Japan the previous couple of weeks and the road had been blocked off due to signs the hillside wasn't stable. It was just luck that there was someone filming at the moment it collapsed - I believe the road had been blocked off for more than a day before it happened.

Landslide, when the road starts cracking up like all hell its easy to guess whats happening next - road gets closes and cameras come out ;) - mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah sorry for the typo..
- eismcsquare, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Here is more of the same.. a lot of added footage. First, I thought this was fake, but its not. Look how it took out a whole portion of the road.
