- ziffel, on 10/10/2007, -8/+119George Carlin, Bill Maher, Jon Stewart ... these are the guys with the balls to tell it like it is. Don't let the humor fool you, the points they're making are true, and it's scary.
- dforty3, on 10/10/2007, -6/+72Excellent Post. Carlin knows and tells us about it and people just laugh it off as if they are somehow protected from the realities he discusses. He's just talking to a bunch of sheep who don't really get it.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -4/+53The geek in me feels the need to point out that Internet Explorer is not a corporation.
- clinko, on 10/10/2007, -17/+57Carlin is great, the video pissed me off. It showed pictures and logos from people like
Rockefeller: "Mr. Rockefeller. In the 1920s, when commercial loggers threatened to destroy large stands of sugar pines adjacent to Yosemite, he provided more than $1 million to save 15,000 acres of forest. Mr. Rockefeller financed the construction of museums in Mesa Verde, Grand Canyon, and Yellowstone national parks. "
Bill Gates AND Warren Buffet have donated BILLIONS to education. In fact, Buffet plans to only leave a few million to his families.
The video and speech just don't sync. - UtopiaInTheSky, on 10/10/2007, -5/+35Listen to Carlin, ignore the crap going on in the video.
I don't know what's more upsetting... The fact that it's all true, or the fact that we can't do anything to change it. - AndrewJC, on 10/10/2007, -1/+22Apathy is by far the largest problem to hit this country ever. People don't care what happens "out there", as long as it doesn't affect their ability to buy cheap food, listen to their iPods and live in a safe environment. They don't realize that by the time something actually begins to affect their lives, it's already too late to do something about it.
The PATRIOT Act? It'll be at LEAST a generation before anybody is able to right those wrongs.
Manufacturers are now able to enforce MINIMUM prices on their goods, all using the argument that somehow, the ability to set your own price as a retailer will stifle competition.
The government, which is a tool OF and BY the people, is now able to spy unabashedly on its own citizens and throw them into prison for indeterminate periods of time without charge or trial. The writ of Habeas Corpus is all but gone from our society. By executive order, you're now allowed to be stripped of your property (a direct violation of the Sixth Amendment) for posing a threat to the government's plans in Iraq.
I'm not one for conspiracy theories, but if you believe that these things are all happening because of the current administration, you're completely fleeced. It's happening because the people with the money want it to happen. - rabidjester, on 10/10/2007, -0/+21The video editor guy left out the best line of his whole routine. "Politicians traditionally hide behind three things: The Flag, The Bible and children."
- anjinash, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17It's sad that the only people who can truly get away with telling the truth about our country are comedians... the people we're not SUPPOSED to take seriously. Carlin is 100% right and if you haven't listened to his albums, now is a great time to start. Bill Hicks, Lewis Black and David Cross are a few others worth checking out. Aside from being hysterical, they all cut through the ***** and tell it like it is.
- mchristiansen, on 10/10/2007, -4/+19Rockefeller: Was one of the "robber barons" that controlled oil production brought about anti-trust laws early in the last century. Gates: Has used the advantage afforded by his monopoly on the PC operating system to capture most of the most profitable segments of that industry. Both were acting in the best interest of their privately held corporations. In the first case, the government broke up this monopoly and we had a competitive marketplace with many options and many employers. In the second case, the government attempted and failed due largely to Microsoft's lobbying activities and the complicity of the Republican party. I believe that we (the general population) would be better off with several companies producing alternative solutions and each employing its own group of individuals producing those solutions, as compared to a single entity that controls and reaps all of the profits. Society is better served when several small companies share the overall market. Its a way of distributing the market across a larger population. Its the responsibility of the government to enact policy that best serves the larger population and not the interest of the wealthy few.
- fedorafandango, on 10/10/2007, -3/+17Good one Nostradamus.
- Frozo, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16I think I need another clue.
- Frozo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15I just wish they didn't pepper the images with Bush, because this is really a non-partisan raping we're all experiencing. Im no fan of Bush, but the conservatives who see this will dismiss it as liberal propaganda. We're ALL getting ***** by this system, and BOTH parties are responsible for it.
The two party system is nothing more than Punch and Judy. Two puppets being controlled by the same damn puppeteer. - pretendex, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15This snippit is from "Life is Worth Losing". If you haven't seen it, download and watch!
- avkrules, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12***** hopelessness. ***** fear. I will be educated. I will educate. I will take action. I will force action.
- ScrumFritter, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11... because that's exactly what you did after you 'got' his message?
- UtopiaInTheSky, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12I think you're mentally unstable because Carlin is entirely right! If you don't believe him, look at the Presidential Candidates... Then do as Gravel says, FOLLOW THE MONEY TRAIL! And you'll see how full of ***** these 'Politicians' really are, my friend.
- dpjames, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11dont forget BILL HICKS!
- OneAndOnlySnob, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ad_hominem He's wrong because he's a bad person.
- robszol, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11good background song...sigur ros FTW!
- MrElRayes, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10"Its called the American Dream ... cause you have to be asleep to believe it."
That was a deep ass quote to end it all off. - UtopiaInTheSky, on 10/10/2007, -7/+16Sounded like they were clapping.
- aluminumpork, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Why are you Digging him down? They were clapping and cheering.
- diggerphelps, on 10/10/2007, -9/+18Buried as LAME for all the extraneous ConspiracyCon ***** added to the vid (and the general overall crappiness of the sound and video quality).
But Carlin's the ***** man. - jimmiss, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8the fact that we can't do anything to change it
- Lobut, on 10/10/2007, -4/+12You're making hidden assumptions. You assume that giving to charities completely cancels out any wrong doing.
They're talking about speaking the truth. Your statement is a complete non-sequitur. - imgeddylee, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10Is there a way to force everyone in the US to watch this clip? Run it during American Idol maybe..
- jkleinfeld, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9One thing I'd like to know is...
how do we right these wrongs?
it is evident that the american political system is in too deep ***** to get itself out
also, how would one go about organizing a political protest in a major city (not just US)
does it require permits? - slickriven, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10Carlin is dead on. It sad really, when political candidates like Rudy gets gads of support for misinformed public and he has no stance on issues, he wants to make money and have power, but people like Ron Paul and Mike Gravel who are trying to change that get no media coverage and the misinformed public ignore them. I really hope... but doubt this'll change.
- Frozo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9WTF is the "liberal elite" anyway (other than a made up term being pushed by Fox News). You don't think there are conservative elites? Its the SAME *****. Wake up man. I'm glad youre making a good living for yourself (as am I), but admit that for the vast majority, the American Dream is nothing but a carrot to keep them working hard with nothing to show for it.
- Frozo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Yeah, as I said in my own thread, the images falsely portray this as a conservative brain child. Both parties are equally responsible for this stare we're in.
- Trebis, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Unfortunately, even if everyone saw it, few would pay attention to it, and even fewer would understand it.
- ICSU, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7They are talking about apathy to what's going on and you mentioned particular people and their charitable efforts.
Totally unrelated
I agree that the content added to the video by the 3rd party sucks. - Frozo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7So what the hell are you here for? You're in the audience too man.
- JavertHolmes, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I'm not American either, but the video is relevant to the world and justly belongs to the site. If you think your country is immune from any of the concepts which this video talks about, I'm guessing you haven't looked hard enough at your country's history or current state.
- Helois, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7"Its called the american dream because you have to be asleep to belive it" Carlos Mencia used that exact same joke , theiving bastard.
- HallsOfMandos, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6missed more than ever...
- iamnotbatman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6So what if he has gotten rich off of it? That doesn't make it false.
- Flashman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Bravo, can I have that on a bumper sticker? :P
- thoand, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-7068677712290004125&q=Life+is+Worth+Losing&total=138&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=0
- jimmiss, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5A MONOPOLY IS NOT CAPITALISM ANYMORE.
- itsbradman, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6No one is afraid if you. You make nothing without the establishment that you are a slave to. You only think you do what you want. If the banking systems called in their loans, like they have done in the past, all of your $ would be gone and you would realize then, that you are owned. Owned like the government, the politicians, and everyone else. You really should look into where all of "your" $ comes from.
- pault107, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5All of the big businesses are based in the USA? You are deluded:
http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortune/global500/2007/full_list/index.html - UsernameTaken, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4He's much closer to anarchism than anything else.
- sharph, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4carlin speaks truth and is amazing. however, i'm sick and tired of hearing "yeah it sucks, but i'm powerless." (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Learned_helplessness ) . even if the thing you do makes the smallest change, for all our sakes do it. boycott giant corporations whenever possible (buying LOCAL and organic food is a good step, as is avoiding coca-cola/pepsico/tobacco products). DON'T think of yourself as a consumer. ride a bike if possible (minimize the amount of oil you buy). make your own media, whether it be music, news, text, video, or otherwise (us internet users are already pretty good at this.) if you need more options, get creative.. most importantly.. THINK FOR YOURSELF. and if you've got a good idea, DO IT.
- crosswick, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Both Stewart and Maher are still in the "9/11 conspiracy theories are *****" camp. Stewart discussed this not three weeks ago with a guest he had on that had written a book about the Pentagon.
Colbert did a segment about the Illuminatie last week :-) - iamnotbatman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4You're buying their *****, tolkan. The main problem with FEMA is that the Republicans under-funded it, and with Social Security is that Republicans won't allow it to be fixed. In this way they can 'prove' that they don't work, and you just eat it up. Oh, and read a history book if you think capitalism without strong government oversight always 'works out things on its own' through competition.
- UsernameTaken, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Not to mention how the Rockefellers, together with J. P. Morgan and other criminal *****, took control of the Federal Reserve.
- MLRS, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Carlin is my second favorite right behind Bill hicks.
- iamnotbatman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4As far as I can tell, Carlin is not communist.
- Daedalus81, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4When did George say he wanted to government to have the power?
If you want to right these wrongs then "you've got to get mad". Get off your ass and do something. -
