- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+136Did you even bother to watch the video, or do you just type every stupid thought that comes out of your brain?
- CornStarch, on 10/12/2007, -2/+107They filmed it with the moon landing and tupac shooting, that was busy day for the NSA.
- DWatch, on 10/12/2007, -3/+49Parts of it are fake. By that I mean, there were no video cameras around when the accident happened, so the video of the plane flying on one wing was a 'recreation' by the show's video editors. They just took stock video of an F15 plane and substituted some background scenery where the wing was, and added some smoke trails (notice how fast the edits are, to keep you from noticing how fake it looks). However, this was one of those 'Modern Marvels" shows on the History Channel, and they are pretty good at verifying sources, so the incident in question really happened. It makes sense, what the pilot said, that if the body of the plan is so wide that if you go fast enough, your like a rocket, and you can fly even without wings.
- Petrarch1603, on 10/12/2007, -0/+45I want to hear more about that Mig that defected to Japan
- maiku00, on 10/12/2007, -3/+38Tom Cruise couldnt do that
- matija, on 10/12/2007, -0/+33http://www.everything2.com/index.pl?node_id=1083518 there is the whole story!
- earthtoandy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+33Thats incredible. I guess there is a reason an F15 has never been shot down.
Good thing he landed that plane. Otherwise he would probably be flying a cargo plane full of rubber dog ***** out of Hong Kong. - strom, on 10/12/2007, -6/+34straight into a friendly aircraft.
- seventoes, on 10/12/2007, -14/+42Chuck norris could.
- kamikazecow, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27One lucky guy, wish the f-15 was like that in BF2, :D. What happend to the guy he colided with though :X?
- FirefighterBlu3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24@starhawk and many others, I worked on every model of F-15, a-e
1) yes the F-15 does have a tailhook, all models
2) this is the 2nd incidence of a wing being shot off or ripped off and the aircraft making a successful landing
3) the entire fuel system has multiple "tanks" both onboard and external and valves everywhere to isolate faults
4) a jet engine that is not running has it's tail wide open, consider the air flow dynamics
5) there are several cameras onboard but usually they don't have hi-res/hi-speed or color. parts of this are entirely likely to be legitimate original footage however
6) the two P&W engines combined produce enough thrust to _accellerate_ the F-15 in a pure vertical climb
if you haven't been there/done that, STFU and stop spouting nonsense like "it's bullsh1t! it's fake!" there's probably a reason why you're not an MD engineer. - earthtoandy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+26Someone didn't take his meds today.
- hoofarted, on 10/12/2007, -11/+33Bury Me.
- burningmonk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19He's dangerous. *snaps jaw shut*
- burningmonk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18"You don't need any wings." Priceless quote.
- matija, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20an OT VIII can do anything, didn't you know?
(but he prefers the f14 tomcat) - aptmunich, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19Of course it is you freak...
Or do you think every F15 comes equipped with a complete set of TV cameras - just in case something good happens.
I'm going to wager that the ground crew was also more preoccupied with helping him down safely than filming the funny guy landing with only one wing.
They dramatise it, becuase otherwise everyone would be modding them down for not having pictures. The only "real" evidence were the pictures they showed right at the end. - burningmonk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18"*****, you can be mine." -Maverick
- matija, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16the footage is all dramatizations.. thats why it looks so dumb
- dypchit, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19You're right, can't fly a plane from inside the closet. Tom, come out of the closet.
- Frinkahedron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15"The radio started to deliver calls saying that the Skyhawk pilot has ejected, and I understood that the fire ball was the Skyhawk, that exploded, and the pilot was ejected automatically."
- hacx2k6, on 10/12/2007, -9/+24israeli pilot.. thats the reason it flew like it did
- elliotm01, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Do notice that the pilot regained control after he used the afterburner. No more is it really operating as a winged plane, but more like a rocket or a missle.
Yeah, yeah, this point was made in the clip, but only AFTER Douglas checked it over.
Still an awesome experience. - burningmonk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14I guess he was flying through the danger zone.
- Namco, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15The F15 in BF2 flies like a B52.If we're to believe BF2, then the J10 is the epitome of aviation technology. :)
- farrellj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Another case of:
"You can't do that, it's impossible!"
"Well, I didn't know that at the time..."
ttyl - Joe091, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Stop being retarded. Haven't you been dugg down enough for one thread?
- TheBarge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11"That's it! I have had it with these ***** snakes on this ***** plane!" - IAF
- Frinkahedron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10The pictures in the video seem to prove otherwise.
http://aerosphere.com/html/my_wing_.shtml for more info - Afroman, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14He can be my wing man any time!
- link470, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12pretty sure nobody owns the air:)
- ChileanGoD, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Was it a snake that blew up the wing?
- Joe091, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Uhm, it's a reenactment for the History Channel. It's not like actual footage from the plane at the time of the accident.
- earthtoandy, on 10/12/2007, -11/+19I was gonna say his egos writing checks his body can't cash but he's israeli, the USA will cash it for him :D
- Daisuke, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10"How much did this air cost?!?"
- UrlorJkron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Thanks for posting that.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Dude, how dense are you? Did you see how your fellow skeptic (first post) is now negative 44 deep b/c apparently couldn't figure it out either. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that this video is from THE HISTORY CHANNEL, and last I checked, they weren't really into making fake videos to confuse 12 year olds (or the mind of) on social networking sites! And no, I don't even want to hear it if you actually think that someone could have altered History Channel footage to make it into something else, that's also just stupid. Get a clue...
- FirefighterBlu3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6probably because it's easier to act immature than it is to do 60 seconds of research and when they're called on it, they just react even more immature
- tomvendetta, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Thats the only reason I checked out the digg comments. I found some more info:
http://english.pravda.ru/main/18/90/363/11227_pilot.html
Pretty amazing stuff in both cases. - Odweaver, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8The fireball didn't land, the pilot ejected out of it, then it became a fireball and exploded. The F-15 with one wing landed.
- sjaskow, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7@midgetpoker, actually the F-15 was released into service in the mid-70's. The upgraded F-15E or the Strike Eagle was the one that came out in 1988.
- sapo916, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7You want him to make you a fireball too?
- DWatch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Most US fighter planes have tail hooks, whether or not they are designed for carrier duty. The majority of military airfields have arresting cables at the ends of the strip to arrest any aircraft performing an emergency takeoff abort, or a landing without brakes. Some fields are too short for fighter aircraft, and are used as emergency diversion landings, and if they have an arresting cable, the fighters can land there with little to no damage.
Even the F-117 has a tail hook, even though its hidden inside a compartment to keep the stealth profile. One plane that doesn't have an tail hook, the A-10 'Warthog'. Its stall speed is low enough that it can land at speeds much lower than normal jet fighters. - brufleth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I'm not in air framing but usually there are at least three fuel tanks. These are linked in the fuel system but designed so that you can shut them off if say, your wing gets blown off. So the right wing fuel tank was probably shut out of the fuel system. In addition these fighters often carry auxiliary fuel takes under the fuselage. These things are just full of redundancy. The F-15 also is a duel engine aircraft so it is all together possible the right engine did cut out. In one of the photos they showed the variable exhaust nozzles and the right side one was set to part open while the left one was closed. I suspect the control system for the right engine detected a fault and went into a revisionary mode. It might have actually flamed out completely. An F-15 can fly on one engine pretty well. That's why the military flies two engine aircraft. So that if one dies the other is there to get you home. The other side of that is that two engines have a relatively crap cost and weight to performance ratio. To get the most thrust, with the least weight and cost you're much better off with a single engine. That's why the JSF is single engine. Of course that was a big to do to get the Navy to agree to fly a fighter with just one engine...
- Skullpop, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9jangelo, Jack Bauer couldn't... Chuck Norris tried out for his role and ended up saving the day in just 2 hours, 24 minuites.
- earthtoandy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4i wouldnt exactly count a friendly fire missle malfunction. It hasn't been shot down by an enemy

- kefs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4not sure why you're being dugg down..
this isn't really breaking news. basic google searches found info to back up the story.
