First Temple seal found in Jerusalem
jpost.com — A stone seal bearing the name of one of the families who acted as servants in the First Temple and then returned to Jerusalem after being exiled to Babylonia has been uncovered in an archeological excavation in Jerusalem's City of David, a prominent Israeli archeologist said Wednesday.

- Christianptriot, on 01/17/2008, -4/+9But still, liberal and anti-Christian folks will cry out, "pictures or no proof" when it comes to the Bible.
- rjwusa, on 01/19/2008, -1/+3That's because the only reading most liberals are capable of, is that of looking at the pictures in a book. The reading part is quite a stretch, intellectually, for them. /sarcasm
- primaldefense, on 01/17/2008, -1/+10This is a great find, historians that focus on Biblical history are always looking for artifacts that help support the accounts within the Bible. There are many still who argue that the Bible is not historically accurate, however accounts like the exile to Babylon, the rise and fall of some nations (Babylon, Assyria, Rome), and other events have been shown to be accurate and mesh well with the accounts that non-biblical artifacts and manuscripts provide as well about some events. It is just amazing that an artifact with a family name was even found, very cool.
- SQLDigger, on 01/18/2008, -1/+2It looks like there are two representations of the crescent moon symbol, one on the altar and one in the sky. It doesn't seem like a typical "cultic scene" to be putting the symbol of a god on an altar. Or am I misreading the symbol? Anyone with some knowledge of near-Eastern religious artifacts & symbology care to weigh in?
- EazyE303, on 01/26/2008, -0/+1Jason: The family name is in hebrew, the language of the jewish people and only the jewish people.
SQL: The crescent in the sky is the sun, only the upside down one would represent a moon. Have you ever seen the moon with the top half illuminated? And it makes it a cultic scene because the crescent moon is a symbol of an ancient god.
