- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -8/+118Honestly, with the utility that facebook provides most of it's users, I don't really care that it is "data mined". The fact that anyone can join means almost anyone has access to alot of the information. The chart that "connected" the facebook to the CIA and other government organizations was laughable too... the whole thing smacks of loose change esque college kid idiocy.
- DesignNerd, on 10/11/2007, -1/+75it should say either: "Do you use the Internet?" or "Are you an American citizen" because that happens everyday, in places that are not Facebook.com.
- feebie, on 10/11/2007, -1/+43I don't care if people know I like to read certain books, or watch certain movies, or listen to a certain genre of music.
I'm not secretive of where I got my education, or what career field I'm in. I'm certainly not naive enough to put my address or phone number on Facebook, and I certainly would never put my credit card number on it! I don't see how anyone knowing the information I do put on Facebook threatens me in any way. Especially if its a former employee of the US gov't. I'm Canadian. What could they possibly do to me? - bluetrevian, on 10/11/2007, -2/+40Scary if you aren't an idiot and fill Facebook with false information. That'll teach 'em!
- duestown, on 10/11/2007, -0/+35Actually, the title does not "say it all." The title says very little. Be responsible when posting.
- 47knight, on 10/11/2007, -1/+35omg they know what my favorite movie is!
- boredsam, on 10/11/2007, -2/+33This has been posted here too many times to count, dugg down.
- zeroroth, on 10/11/2007, -7/+36That was dumb.
- RedRummy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+27from the first YouTube comment...
"Oh noes! You mean information I share with others can be seen and used by other people?
Did you also know that posting your street address on your house lets people know where your house is?"
exactly... who cares?? - jspegele, on 10/11/2007, -1/+26Hold on a second. I regularly post my credit card information on my friends walls. I trust them not to use it and I don't see any reason why someone I don't know would want to steal that information. Are you telling me that this is a bad idea???
- PvtJenkins, on 10/11/2007, -0/+24Yea seriously. The government can find anything they want about you anyway. You think they go look up your Facebook profile for a background check?
"Johnson! I want to know EVERYTHING about this kid by 8pm tonight!"
"Yes boss, no problem, I'll get on Facebook" - Judicata, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14Aargh!!!
The titled does NOT say it all - it doesn't say ANYTHING. Resist the urge to be a lazy freaking moron. - MichaelStanton, on 10/11/2007, -3/+17Y'know, ever since 9/11 conspirators latched onto Digg, the quality of videos and news has gone down. I might be off-target, but it seems that every week there's a new government conspiracy threatening to destroy my life and rape and pillage my freedom, and I should storm into the nearest government building with a 12-gauge and some Vicodin shouting "I AM THE LIBERATOR OF THE NATION" while blindly firing at the DMV clerks.
...Well, maybe the DMV's a bad example. - IHaveIssues, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14Weren't those terms of service the same ones that got Hotmail into trouble?
- spect3r, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13Facebook: ITS A TRAP!!
- mepawl, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12This is kinda...old? And besides that not even the original source, it's just a screencast of an actual website.
- lanzemurdok, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12boards of canada ftw
- m0n3y, on 10/11/2007, -3/+13Why? Do you think the NSA has no access to your school records, income taxes, driving record, marriage records, credit history, etc? You were tagged and traced from the day you were born.
- Butterbean, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10really...are people that dumb to know that putting that crap on the net automatically means that in some way it is not private. we've all been through this before. -digg.
and how old is that narrator....13? - DevinOlsen, on 10/11/2007, -4/+14Agreed, I turned this off when it started saying facebook is linked to the US government...
I wouldn't be at all surprised if the person who made this video is wearing a tin foil hat right now. - boredsam, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9ok!!
- tapo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10This is such a huge ***** conspiracy theory, I really don't know why I wasted my time.
I mean, seriously. There's a lot more I could be worried about than Facebook, like AT&T's secret NSA room, the FBI's policy of using a device to retain emails (raptor was it?), and the fact that I don't know what goes on behind AOL's walls and what they're doing to my IM conversations.
Why should I worry about Facebook and not those? - quez, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10'Facebook' is a verb, now? God help us.
- pilotss, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8So true. And Facebook, MySpace, Virb and all the rest are FREE services. Of course they are mining your data. If you thought they were making these sites for fun you really need to become more aware of your surroundings. And the CIA has far more effective mining tools like Carnivore to get your scoop.
Sensational junk.
Down Down Down. - directedition, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8OMG consiracy theory!
- aceman118, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7I wonder if they used facebook to get all those crazy pointless connection to the CIA and DoD?
- greatpaimei, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7I'm actually laughing
- MikeonTV, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Wow I like Prison Break and Lost. Enjoy that info.
- AgentHatchet, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Well, now that I have your opinion I can go on living life. Thank God, I was considering suicide solely due to the fact i didn't know if WSTONEMAN liked Facebook or not.
- rhettspalding, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6OH NO!! My information is not safe on the internet! What else is new?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Exactly, this video is implying that any non-US citizen is perfectly fine and can go about facebooking as usual without worry. Really it's a silly video trying to scare paranoid people further.
- writh3n, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5I data mine for profit too, guess what...so do a lot of places. Ever had a bank call up to check on you because you made one of those "gas and jewelry" purchases? They use data mining to look at shopping habits and determine if someone is fraudulently using your credit card.
- dyreschlock, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5I like Lost too. we should be friends.
- Unremarkable, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Anyone else wait to see what happened in the last minute-twenty? I'll save you the trouble: nothing.
- boredsam, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Is this the premise of the next Michael Moore movie?
- DiggzDE, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4What do you expect. It is a company. You are hosting material on their site. It is not surprising at all. Just don't be a ***** and post all of your life's information on there.
That is the problem. Most people of our age are idiots and don't know any better.
Btw: this video is full of loose conspiracy connections. Really stupid. - akeating, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I've got to agree with you on this. If they are able to better tailor services and products to me, knowing my favorites, and without any hassle to me, I'm all for it. I don't care if they know my favorite things because the worst they can do is target me with more appropriate ads. Hell, those better ads might even help me find something I'm looking for...
- bruenig, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Kevin bacon is in on it too it seems.
- Radiohead84, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Don't put info online that you don't want other people to know...or do it anonymously. Facebook will display your info and probably use it to make money...but so will everyone else.
- opes, on 10/11/2007, -1/+42005 called and wants their news back. Welcome to the internet Malarie.
- NikoKun, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Isn't the whole point of facebook to put information out so other's can find you? Just don't be an idiot and put private stuff up... -_- If you use it, you're willing to give up a few privacy factors so others can find you. Do yourself a favor, and don't use the same screen name you use other places, on facebook.
Other than that facebook is useful. - JoeDiggsIt, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3We know it's Mean Girls.....heh heh heh...
- Tenlow, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5The flip side of that coin is that nothing is really secure, pretty much everything you do on the internet can and does get tracked by someone. There is no such thing as privacy in a public place. Once you've figured that out, it's really not a big deal. So it's kind of like if loose change had some factual basis. This is the stuff that breeds conspiracy theories.
- rickspencer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Title says nothing.
- newyawker, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5The title "doesn't say it all." The video is about privacy. The title doesn't say ***** about privacy.
- shaelen, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3No, Title DOESN'T say it all. It didn't tell me that it was a link to Youtube. It would have saved me a bit of time if I had known that since I don't have 3 minutes to watch a video at the moment, I'd have come back to it later on. And this only took me 17 seconds to type.
- veggiemoore, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Yeah, but now this Anita Jones lady knows from my Facebook that I'm single! And she's a DOCTOR! Call me, Anita! My number's on my Wall.
- shep72685, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2What's this I hear? Oh why that is a thunderous, "DUH!"
- the0ckid82, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2+1 to the PBR
- strangewill, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Are people really this dumb:
You're putting information on someone else's computer, nay the INTERNET. What do you expect? Yes, whatever I put on a public machine is no longer private data, duh. -
