- Surferess, on 05/23/2008, -8/+7Asshat, really? That hardly warrants a click through, much less a digg.
- lcm133, on 05/23/2008, -5/+3I'm not surprised to hear you say that. You are a surferess, after all. (Ad Hominem)
- djnasty, on 05/23/2008, -5/+1I think that makes you an ass hat
- Hiji, on 05/23/2008, -2/+5Agreed. I feel no need to "demonstrate my comprehension" to all the diggtards. Buried for that asshat quip.
- chickentonight, on 05/23/2008, -5/+3You guys suck, the ass hat crack is completely relevant to the article. Ass hats.
- MintzMan, on 05/23/2008, -2/+19Ass Hats: uncomfortable but stylish http://media.urbandictionary.com/image/large/assha ...
- Burrito, on 05/23/2008, -1/+5I wish this were true but my gut feeling is that the majority of Internet users start at the bottom of that chart, not the top.
- FrankWhite1, on 05/23/2008, -0/+6I think it represents the frequency of arguments on the Internet.
- Burrito, on 05/24/2008, -0/+1Then I stand corrected.
- ShinyFriction, on 05/23/2008, -1/+0That is why it takes the form of a pyramid.
- FrankWhite1, on 05/23/2008, -0/+6I think it represents the frequency of arguments on the Internet.
- halflife22, on 05/23/2008, -6/+0One more reason XKCD is genius
http://xkcd.com/406/ - Tucci1, on 05/23/2008, -1/+2So if I explicitly refute the central point, am I self-actualizing?
- smacksaw, on 05/23/2008, -6/+3Isn't this the 3rd time it's been up this month? Buried - dupe.
- Stupidumb, on 05/23/2008, -0/+2I don't know. Why are you asking me?
- devoted, on 05/23/2008, -2/+2well said!
- SpikeLee, on 05/23/2008, -7/+3Someone show this to the Ron Paul backers. Maybe then they could get a ton more respect.
- grumpyrain, on 05/23/2008, -2/+1Godwin's law must go in there somewhere.
- diggstown, on 05/23/2008, -2/+1He missed one. The very top of the pyramid and most frequently used is the Ignore or Bury. To be used when any response would otherwise just be a waste of time and effort.
Think about it... the whole point of engaging in argument is either to assert intellectual superiority or to present/learn/create new ideas. Digg comments especially appear to lean to the former and less productive purpose of argument.
Learn from this my bitches.- ElAssoWipo, on 05/23/2008, -2/+1The purpose of argumentation is to demonstrate the validity of a proposition by destroying all of its objections. It has nothing to do with the person making the arguments.
I've never seen this pyramid in my life. And I teach logic. I don't understand its purpose.
Of all the elements in the pyramid only one constitutes a proper rebuttal, the rest are the equivalent of barking or just plain saying "no it isn't". And that's the counter-argument. And they aren't in a logical order either.- Stupidumb, on 05/23/2008, -2/+1FAG
- diggstown, on 05/23/2008, -0/+2You may have defined the logical definition of an argument, but the social motivation for engaging in argument is a different beast.
Good luck finding much argument/discussion in Digg that fits your definition. - ShinyFriction, on 05/23/2008, -1/+0The order would be logical to you if you had read Paul Graham's essay. The top of the pyramid represents the least frequent, but most convincing arguments encountered on the internet. The bottom of the pyramid represents the most frequent, but least convincing arguments encountered.

- InfamousAtheist, on 05/23/2008, -0/+4Aw come on... diggers love the ad hominem attack. When the neocon idiots get trashed in the comments with logic and reason, they have nothing else to resort to but that and name-calling.
- Stupidumb, on 05/23/2008, -0/+1Shut up, you stupid.
- 0Xonox0, on 05/23/2008, -0/+4I think I speak for all the unintelligent trolls and flamers of the internet when I say, you sir, are an ass hat.
- Stupidumb, on 05/23/2008, -0/+2Everyone with stupid user names are always wrong.
- alapoet, on 05/23/2008, -0/+1I have examined the hierarchy, and will hereby strengthen all my future Internet arguments!
Thanks for a great shout. - paigeoneill, on 05/24/2008, -0/+1any article with ass hat in it has my vote.
- chatster, on 05/26/2008, -0/+0good points to consider - thanks!
