- zyklon, on 08/25/2008, -1/+21Is it just me, or is the framerate on the map obscenely slow?
- orbit1979, on 08/25/2008, -2/+9Where are the natives? I guess were going to interactively marginalize them in history too.
- chris_moritz, on 08/25/2008, -0/+6I like how it shows that the U.S. Population in 1590 was "150." Hmm… I seem to remember that there were quite a few more human beings around at the time. And that the United States was a few hundred years away from existing as an institution.
Oh, I know - it meant "150 Real People."
I demand these people be locked in a room, forced to watch Disney's "Pocahontas" on repeat 50 times. - azhura, on 08/25/2008, -0/+3Wow, you have six thumbs. Weird.
- flashcat7777, on 08/25/2008, -0/+3Yep, it's slow.
- thedogfatherx, on 08/25/2008, -1/+4Cool but map is frikin slow.
- srfrogger, on 08/25/2008, -1/+3Terrible map that only focuses on the East Coast. What about Spanish settlements and missions established long before most East Coast villages?
Take the Mission San Antonio de Senecú near El Paso, Texas established in 1682 or California missions established in the 1700s?
The sad thing is that this comes from the Univ. of Houston. - wretcheddawn, on 08/25/2008, -2/+4Fail. I've got a quad core machine and it's still slow.
- altgeeky1, on 08/25/2008, -0/+2This is a very good point. Native population outnumbered settlers for much of the early US history, until smallpox infested blankets and clothing of the DEAD were traded to them. Before the first nations were mostly exterminated, they were both considered subjects of the USA - but not citizens.
I'll probably get Buried for not maintaining the cartoon version of history. - knickerbocker, on 08/26/2008, -0/+1Wow! That map was crapalicious! I guess the War of 1812 didn't happen or somesuch. Oops! There goes the rationale for the national anthem. Oops! There goes the rationale for Johnny Horton's best-known tune.
Digital history indeed! Give you 3 guesses which digit it gets from me. - flashcat7777, on 08/25/2008, -2/+2Yep, it's typical work from University of Houston.
- jhnsnp, on 08/25/2008, -4/+4crappy map aside, its pretty amazing that Santa Fe was founded so early.
- zyklon, on 08/26/2008, -1/+1I think that has nothing to do with it... they just put together a trashy flash programme.
- shipwreck58, on 08/25/2008, -2/+2Yeah overall this sucks. The exclusion of Spanish movement and the Russian settlements in California.
- nospinhere, on 08/25/2008, -3/+2I give this site 6 thumbs up
- KennMac, on 08/25/2008, -2/+1I see quite a few mentions of natives on the map. Try reading it.
- ihavebeenseen, on 08/25/2008, -5/+3So American History started in 1590? Did they miss a zero or something?
- Snowball73, on 08/25/2008, -5/+2wow America has history???
- inactive, on 08/25/2008, -8/+4American history can be put in one sentence: Criminals, rejects and losers came to this land, and since then, they committed crimes and rapes, which continues until now.
- magikshock1, on 08/25/2008, -7/+1great..must digg..
