- spoodigity, on 10/10/2007, -1/+29He's obviously a jedi, he even does the hand wave.
- guimonkey, on 10/10/2007, -2/+28He needs "The Final Countdown" playing when he performs an act.
- jenel, on 10/10/2007, -4/+25You get a free tinfoil hat when purchasing this DVD.
- Tobark, on 10/10/2007, -1/+19If he makes a video that shows using mind control to get chicks to show boobs he will sell more.
- pennvneff, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15I Loved It. It Was Better Than Cats. I Will See It Again and Again.
- phunlee, on 10/10/2007, -5/+18D.B. tells you everything he's doing. The fact that he can do that and people still fall for his suggestions/misdirections and simple tricks is the skill I enjoy watching. He's not a mind reader. He's not a psychic. He's a pro and he's awesome at what he does. Check out his BBC4 show - Trick of the Mind.
- Appox, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14I hope you like it, and if you do. Please go and buy another one.
I like his comedy as much as I like his mental powers. - cmw72, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10You should have mentioned in the title that there are strippers at 53:00. You'd have a thousand diggs by now.
- TomFrost, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11I'm a professional magician. As a community, magicians consider themselves people who work with illusion, and don't claim that anything they're doing is actually real. We consider illusionists who try to claim that what they're doing actually *is* real to be scam artists.
- arcooke, on 10/10/2007, -4/+13You're both dumbasses. No reason.
- hiPpymIck, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9he reminds me of the Master in Dr Who..
- UncleHenry, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9I Loved This Comment. It Was Better That Another Crappy Musical. I Will Start Every Word With A Capital Letter.
(Jeez, that was harder to do than I expected.) - spudnic, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Stooges generally do not work, here's why.
Derren Brown high profile over here in the UK, pay a stooge to not say anything and they will go straight to the papers and get more money from them. It's that simple.
Could try some kind of signed contract, but then if they decided to sue the person they would have to go through the courts, and the case would get even more publicity and even more people would know they use stooges. - superkickstart, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7He's a witch! Burn him, BURN HIM!!1
- W00DR0W, on 10/10/2007, -4/+10Just in case anyone's unsure on whether or not Darren Brown's a fraud:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2428437236878343763&q=darren+brown+video+game&total=18&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=0 - spudnic, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8He has said himself he does not use NLP, he actually quite dislikes it. You sohuld read his book some time, it's great. He fully explains a lot of the things he does, and teaches you some fantastic memory techniques, I can still remember the list of 20 words he shows you how to memorize, and I read the book last christmas.
He clearly does (and states he does) mix magic with the pyschological tricks, but saying all of it is standard magic dressed up is moronic. - worldsbestgamer, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Maybe if people stop pirating his video he can afford a good toupee to fix that.
- SimonGray, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I knew about that memory technique he describes in the Black Jack part. I saw it explained in a different documentary about memory training. If train yourself to you use imaginary objects in rooms to represent things, you can "bluff" your own mind making it "save" in long term memory rather than short term memory. Short term memories only has a short span - a few minutes - and limited capacity, while long term memory doesn't. That's how he keeps track of the cards in play. I'm actually thinking about buying a book on this very subject to help me learn Chinese characters =)
- mikesbaker, on 10/10/2007, -1/+652:30 - This is the dog you are looking for.
- phatfish, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Derren Brown is more than just "smoke and mirrors". His shows are very popular in Britain and you have to watch all of them to get a good idea of what he does. He manipulates people with amazing power. On quite a few of his shows he explains how he controls peoples actions. If most magicians did that their trick is blown apart and the magic is gone. But his setups are so complicated as to be almost unbelievable.
The magic is that it actually possible to influence people in the way he does, not that some physically impossible event just happened on a stage. His shows should be compared to street magic more than anything else. But i kind you have never seen before, i don't know of any other performer with manipulative powers and the ability to read peoples actions he has. - emindaer, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6It's an illusion, Michael. A trick is something a whore does for money....
or cocaine. - Foamator, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Intended.
- spudnic, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4The memory palace thingy is called Loci, I can't do it, hope you have better luck!
- Angostura, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Can't remember, sorry.
- SmoothCorn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I think that was a subliminal message he was sending.
- jayjaykay, on 10/10/2007, -0/+41:18:43 wasted of my work day. Awesome!
- iashraf, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Because it's not.
Also, he uses a method called NLP, google it. - mrgoat, on 10/10/2007, -5/+8He doesn't tell you what he is doing. He lies, saying it is psychological techniques, whereas in fact it's fairly standard magic tricks dressed up brilliantly.
I love him, don't get me wrong. But the funny bit is that people actually BELIEVE he is using NLP and influence whereas he is doing magic. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3He can claim to hate it and deny using it but it is still based on NLP. Try reading a book on NLP.
- Br0wn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3This guy is great. I got all his tv shows and his theater one too. It does get a little boring to see him using the same technique to do a slightly different trick every now and again. His best definitely is stopping the girl on the street and also going invisible.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Love Darren Brown and his trick of the mind series.
- spearce, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3CACAW CACAW CACAW!!!
- spudnic, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Derren Brown on NLP:
"The image given is that little old you can become a Pavarotti or Einstein through some magical and brief brain-programming process. While this undoubtedly may not have been quite the original intention of the technique, it is certainly the misleading concept peddled nowadays. Such exaggerated claims as these, unchecked and unaccountable in a sprawling industry that affects personal lives and big business, are perhaps a little concerning....one of the many irritating habits of NLPers is to claim anything remotely concerned with looking consciously at one's inner processes as NLP" - MisterSam, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Actually. He does use NLP and Hypnosis. I've also read his book. It's clear that he has studied Miltonian hypnosis (on which NLP is based) and when i watch his videos now I can clearly see many snippets taken from Milton and NLP (bandler and grinder). In the book he says he doesn't like what NLP has become now, big business. But he also states that Bandler and Grinders early books are very worth reading and its clear he learned from them.
- Izzie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2he doesn't actually convince anyone.
a guy plays a shooting videogame kinda like "house of the dead", a series a flashing and other techniques are used to have him enter some kind of hypnosis trance, he tehn is transported in a setup looking somewhat like the game where actors dressed as zombies replay sequences from the videogame to see how the guy would act. he then is put into trance and taken back to the pub where derren brown meets him for the first time and explain what has happened.
DB has used this kind of technique in several other occasions in his various TV shows for different tricks/experiences.
It is a matter of personal belief to choose that's it's fake, if you don't want to rely on beliefs and want some insight about if something like this is possible, you can gather some knowledge about human mind, you'd be amazed how much our own mind tricks us. - BlackOp, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Here is the trick mentioned in my last post. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vr1iq9UBBVE
It's really just a simple card sorting trick, but is made to look as if much more is involved. And apparently the guy he did it on thought so.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Out_of_This_World_(card_trick) - Ubersmush, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2He's right the frame jumps and the drink disappears. Something not right there
- nonchai, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2talk about damning with faint praise !"
better than cats !.
Like saying that a beatles tune is better than the "birdy tune" - mrbradg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Darren is one of the most amazing people I have seen in my whole life.
- pogfreak, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3/whoosh
right over your head... sorry buddy. - Lezlee798, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Yes you did. Your an idiot.
- TypeEE, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I have the same doubt in mind too.
- babybirdhome, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1And you're (notice the "you're" part?) not paying close enough attention. Look again. ;)
- W00DR0W, on 10/10/2007, -4/+5Well since you're too lazy to watch I'll just tell you, he convinces someone he's in a a first person shooter and the guy goes around shooting people he thinks are zombies.
It's as fake as it sounds. - tribble222, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Good catch - we definitely are missing something there
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You can download videos form googletube via the website itself.
- magicmarc, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1Seriously. I know that's an old comment, but that cracked me up...
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1hahahahaha, nice angostura
- lewikee, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Just watch his zombie episode if you have any confusion. He's an entertainer. His only psychological trick is in making the audience believe his "tricks" are possible.
