- eggo, on 10/11/2007, -4/+155I could have done without the first 3 1/2 minutes, but it was cool.
- FeartheKnighted, on 10/11/2007, -2/+147love how the driver is wearing a helmet and gloves, and yet the dude on the bed out in the open isn't.
- spencewah, on 10/11/2007, -3/+147As velocity of vehicle approaches negative velocity of projectile, soundtrack approaches terminal levels of EPIC
- SuperDaveOz, on 10/11/2007, -1/+97I just want to know why the driver was wearing a helmet and the guy in the back wasn't?
- Wonkanobi, on 10/11/2007, -6/+92Not cool?!
science > bperin - deepdiggdude, on 10/11/2007, -1/+43Now then, If you really want to blow your mind consider the fact that light emitted in the opposite direction from a vehicle traveling 99.99 percent of light speed would still travel at light speed relative to an external viewer.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+36yeah it's predictable, but have you ever seen it being done? That's the whole fun of it.
- MackDiesel2010, on 10/11/2007, -1/+35Apparently, John Madden is comment spamming with two different user names
- redled, on 10/11/2007, -0/+33They used a baseball pitching machine. Of course it gives the ball backspin (bottom wheel spins faster), they are designed to pitch the ball similar to an actual pitcher.
- rhinopig, on 10/11/2007, -5/+37I thought the same thing. And with the computer graphics and 4 minute build up they really milked that thing for all it was worth.
On a side note, when the camera zoomed in on the speedometer hitting 100kph did anyone else expect the truck to travel back in time? - bushoncrack, on 10/11/2007, -2/+31love how the driver is wearing a helmet to drive 60 MPH in a straight line.
- LexisNexis, on 10/11/2007, -0/+27I love how they get seemingly random ideas in their heads and instead of doing calculations and ***** are like "TOMASHIRO, GET IN THE TRUCK! YOZA, DRIVE! NAKAMURA, NEED BASEBALLS, QUICK!"
A much cooler way to approach things. - Zenithan, on 10/11/2007, -1/+22Japanese.
- bangelo, on 10/11/2007, -4/+25Jesus Christ, that was drawn out.
- jbob2000, on 10/11/2007, -1/+22@themastersb
No it doesn't, it still has spin on it from the machine spitting it out. - jull1234, on 10/11/2007, -2/+23100 kph == 62.1371192 mph.. jeez.
- davidrools, on 10/11/2007, -1/+21go to about 3:22 if you wanna skip the fluff.
- Remmiz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+19The Matrix music at the end made it
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+20lol yeah i was gonna write EPIC MUSIC in my description but crapped out in the end.
- wushu18t, on 10/11/2007, -3/+19not cool?! through all my classes of engineering, physics, equations, to see that one basic simple thing that is taught in physics actually happen is awesomeness*6.23*10^23.
- pastasauce, on 10/11/2007, -7/+21Pretty basic physics. Vector Quantities.
The truck is moving in a positive direction (100km/hr) and the ball is fired in a negative direction (-100km/hr)
If you add the two, you'll get zero. In a perfect world, where there is no slope, wind, and the ball and truck were moving at a perfect 100km/hr, the ball would bounce there, not moving anywhere. - Berkana, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11In Japan, shows like this actually care that the audience learn the principles at work, rather than jumping to the demo for entertainment's sake.
- sbasund, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10dugg for mashing up the soundtracks from "Bourne Identity", "Speed", and "The Matrix".
- brownspank, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10Subtitles are for reading.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8I wanna see some low-velocity bullets fired from the back of an airplane now. Take one that goes 700fps, that's 477.27 mph. There are plenty of jets that can go as fast as that. I imagine it would be difficult to capture it on camera though. Guess they could use a high-speed camera or something.
*5,280 feet in a mile
700 feet per second
42,000 feet per minute
2,520,000 feet per hour - m4csrgh3yk3v, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10relativity ftw
- rhinopig, on 10/11/2007, -4/+12A) the top one was (or should have been. hard to tell with how spin can trick your eyes) spinning counterclockwise and the bottom one was spinning clockwise so the ball shouldn't have had any spin unless one was spinning faster than the other (which it probably was but we don't know which one.)
B) I think the reason the ball rolled toward the truck was because of the draft from the truck, not the spin of the ball. - ClintDrums, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9Is it just me, or is it kind of backwards how the driver is decked out in a helmet, seat belt, gloves, and full-body fire suit, while the poor guy in the back of the truck has nothing?
- chaparyan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7I laughed so hard at that comment that I nearly passed out, and I'm not even kidding you. Thanks for making my day!!
- Pests, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7You are the forth person to point that out.
Did you even see the comment above yours? - FlapJaw, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Japanese ball handlers are the best. You can't say that about their drivers though.
- swimmingbird67, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5music reminded me of metal gear solid.
- Toshibi, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5I actually recognized the music from The Matrix soundtrack.
remmiz beat me to it... - MagicBobert, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Bourne Supremacy ;)
- SkippyDoorknob, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Yeah, the 400 people above you already made the same comment
- brownspank, on 10/11/2007, -5/+8Not if you understand Japanese.
- chaparyan, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4guy in the back has cloth gloves, that's all he needs ;-)
- MagicBobert, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3The music at the beginning is from The Bourne Supremacy soundtrack. As already stated, the ending music is from The Matrix.
- veeshy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3man i thought for sure the ball would implode into the 7th dimension
- 3zero3, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Jesus, did they really have to drive allllll the way around the track??
- bootstrap, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3too bad they didn't have that really good high speed camera :(
- Splint69, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3@ rationalicthus
The only reason was because if there was any danger the guy in the back of the truck would have just jumped off of the truck with exactly 100km force, and would have received minimal damage but the guy inside of the truck couldn't have jumped off if that happened... - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3it's because you are falling in the elevator much faster than you can jump up.
- Scynet, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Wouldn't look as neat as you might think. The ball would simply fall down, like most other objects we've seen falling from vehicles. It wouldn't actually approach the vehicle, that would mean the ball was moving faster than the vehicle.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Yes it would.
- Jezper, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Was thinking just the same. They're pushing a lame truck that tops 120 up to 100 on a racing track. The driver all geared up yet they have the ball guy redneck style sitting in the back. I guess he was expendable in case of... anything.
- kilikogo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2That music is from The Matrix.
- tghd, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Bourne Supremacy -------- Speed ----------- The Matrix
- Jessejb, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2love how they have to do a 2 km lap to get up to 100km...
Couldn't they have chosen a vehicle that has a higher top speed of 120km? - rationalicthus, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4I just wanted to mention that it was strange that the guy inside the truck had full racing gear on, but the dude in the back was just wearing gloves. Does anyone find that odd?
I mean, really! The guy inside the truck had full racing gear on, but the dude in the back was just wearing gloves.
Oh, and in case anyone else didn't notice, the guy inside the truck had full racing gear on, but the dude in the back was just wearing gloves.
Strange thing, that the guy in the back was just wearing gloves. -
