- Yelnik, on 10/11/2007, -25/+117I dont get it, Bush lying about 9/11, this is new news? He lies every time he talks about it.
- squarehalo, on 10/11/2007, -8/+62"obviously the tv was on"
jesus christ. - alibenx, on 10/11/2007, -12/+64I'm no fan of Bush, but I don't think it matters whether or not he actually saw a plane hit the building. Obviously, he saw a report that a plane had hit the building, which is what he is describing. 3 months later did you remember exactly when the footage of the first plane was released?
- sexybobo, on 10/11/2007, -14/+60"saw an air plane hit the tower" "saw an air plane had hit the tower" lets face it bush is not the greatest public speaker in the world why is it news that he left a word out of his answer.
- Ezekiel25:17, on 10/11/2007, -3/+42Did anyone else see Kim Jong-il in the audience at 28 seconds left in the video?
- abaudoux, on 10/11/2007, -3/+36Can some American explain me why everyone knows about bush administration lies and nobody seems to care. It almost seems "natural" and "entertaining" that the government of the most powerful country in the world is lying.
- psygnisfive, on 10/11/2007, -5/+31The whole "conspiracy"-ness of this depends on whether he said "saw an airplane hit the tower" to mean that he saw video of the airplane hit the tower, or saw THAT an airplane hit the tower. English grammar allows implicit conjunctions (e.g. "I see you ate the pie" vs. "I see that you ate the pie").
We shouldn't be quick to jump on the conspiracy bandwagon simply because we all have forgotten the details of English grammar. - psygnisfive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+21Funny thing about grammar nazis is that they tend not to be trained linguists, because we linguists are aware that grammar is defined by usage, not by some magical set of rules that the grammar nazis believe exist in some pristine form, chiseled in stone by God himself, hidden away, access to which only they have through a magical psychic link.
- psygnisfive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+16There is no grammatical error in "saw an air plane hit the war". What there is is the standard English implicit conjunction: "saw [that] an airplane hit the tower". If you're going to rag on Bush, do it for the right reasons.
- Habemus, on 10/11/2007, -8/+22This has got to be the stupidest thing I've ever read on Digg! When you tell someone you saw a wreck on the highway on the way to work do they think you mean that you saw it occur or do they think you mean that you saw the aftermath? Same here. When he says he saw a plane crash into the WTC he means that he saw the aftermath of the plane crashing into the WTC. How ***** goddamn stupid do you have to be not to realize that? Are you so full of Bush hate that you think when someone says they saw a car crash they are lying if they did not see the cars actually hit each other? Same for the airplane and the WTC. For you to say Bush is lying here, either you are ***** insane with hate or you are ***** stupid beyond help. Pick one or the other.
- dn11, on 10/11/2007, -2/+16Not "everyone" understands this - only recently most Americans have begun to understand how bad this administration is. Those of us who have known all along care, but what could we do? You tell me... overthrow the government? The republican party was in complete control of the entire government for 5 years - there was no oversight, there was no consequences for incompetence and corruption. When bush attacked Iraq he supposedly had a 75% approval rating. During that time the fear mongering was so thick that anyone who didn't stand in lockstep behind the president was treated with suspicion. All the media outlets tried to out do eachother with patriotism - red white and blue graphics ad nauseum. The true damage of 9/11 is how much it ***** up the psyche of this country - people needed to have a target for retaliation in order to feel safe again, and they were willing to take the fascist-in-chief at his word.
I've said all along that attacking Iraq was exactly what Al Qaeda wanted us to do - we played into their plans perfectly - we let them win already. If those of us that hate this president and this war have been laughing about it and mocking the president in seemingly lighthearted fashion, it's because we have had no other choice - life would have been far to bleak otherwise. - Blue_Eon, on 10/11/2007, -3/+16It's also due to the fact that, any time you try and say that this administration has tried to hide something about 9/11 or that they know more than they're letting on, people label you as a conspiracy theorist...even now, when everyday, there are numerous stories about the lies and deceit that this administration commits, saying anything about cover-ups makes people think you need a tin foil hat and are paranoid.
People hate admitting to themselves that the government is corrupt and that we were lied to. - virtualmadden, on 10/11/2007, -8/+19I'm not a big fan of the guy, but really? This is the best link against Bush people can find? I really expected more from the Digg users. ;)
- norbiu, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10I'm so Ronery .. so ronery .. so ronery and sadry arone ...
- jivemasta, on 10/11/2007, -2/+12The problem over here is that most people don't care about it enough to do anything, they figure in 4 years it will all be over. We always have a ***** president, either they are good and get assassinated, or are bad and go for 2 terms. We can't keep good leaders around some some idiot goes and kills them. Lincoln, JFK, MLK, the list goes on.
- ziffel, on 10/11/2007, -2/+12Bill Clinton was an excellent 2-term president. Our foreign relations were far, far better, fuel costs were low, unemployment was low, the economy was booming. IMO, he is the only great president we've had since JFK.
- TubaTechno, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9At that time, no one that it to be a terrorist attack. So thats what he thought at the time.
- Rkstar, on 10/11/2007, -6/+15As much as I dislike Bush, trying to play off Bush's common omission of the word "that" is no better than the idiots who were trying to say Kerry called the troops stupid. Let's focus on the lies he did say. How about a big one... like "The terrorists hate us for our freedom". He said that. It's a lie. And it's one that really matters.
- Enendar, on 10/11/2007, -6/+14Ha ha, he "lied" about seeing the first plane hit the tower and this is the lie that the submitter thinks needs addressing when the whole Scooter Libby thing is going on? Ha.
- FeargusMcDuff, on 10/11/2007, -7/+13George Bush lacks perfect memory....
OMFG COSPICISY!!!!!!!!!11111111!!!111 - JerodSlay, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Mayyyybeeeee he meant he saw the video of the hole in the building and the reports saying a plane hit it. Some people would describe that as seeing that a plane had hit the building.
- hambend, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8There is a brilliant quote in SiCKO, which has almost nothing to do with health care but seems rather fitting here.
"See, I think there are two ways in which people are controlled. First of all frighten people, and secondly demoralize them." -Tony Benn, Former Member of British Parliament
That's exactly what I see in America. Those who haven't fallen victim to the fearmongering are so convinced that their country is beyond help that they don't see the point in trying. So when they see their president lying, they don't get angry; why bother? Instead, it just reinforces their belief that their leaders are beyond the law, the law is beyond their control, and their country is beyond their reach.
And for their apathy, the whole world suffers. - ziffel, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8I completely agree. I'm very reluctant to speak about my questions about 9/11 for fear of being labled a tin-foil hat nutjob. I think there are some real, legitimate and unanswered questions about 9/11 that should be investigated further, and not just swept under the rug as people and the media have allowed them to be. In my view, WTC7 falling is a bizarre mystery. the lack of airplane parts/shrapnel at 93 and 77's crash sites is bizarre. There is also documented evidence that this administration was warned about this type of attack beforehand. Simply put, there's not much I'd put past the Bush/Cheney administration at this point.
- Jag27X, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9Bush misspeaks all the time. You can't ridicule him for making syntactical mistakes in public speeches one day, then quote an exaggeration for dramatic effect (something all of use when telling a story) as airtight evidence of an effort to mislead the American people. Argue or imply conspiracy all you want, but basing any kind of claim on something as trivial as this is ridiculous. If this is the best 'lie' the director of this video could come up with, I have absolutely no interest in seeing the rest of the film. This is not a big deal.
- PeterBassett, on 10/11/2007, -5/+10"Wow, that is one terrible pilot" ???
Joking about it? Did I hear that right? - spmyke, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5First off, let me just say that I loathe Bush with all of my icy, black heart. And, even though I think he's a huge liar and that he and his administration are somehow responsible for the 9/11 incident, I believe that he could of just been his typical, stupid self and screwed up what he really meant to say. Because he's a moron. A total moron. And that would be a moronic thing to do. Because he's a moron.
And, seriously, what the ***** is up with saying that he said to himself, "that's one bad pilot." Jebus, was that suppose to be a joke? What a moron. - resplence, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Went a little overboard with the illustrations but the point is still very good.
- sexybobo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4"whisked off" in to the classroom. meaning he didn't have much time to think about a plane hitting a tower before he had something else to concentrate on. you can't complain about the guy not knowing this was a terrorist attack this was the first attack like that ever.
- statrick, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6some would argue that he was never really voted in the first time.
you like my reference? - Doghound, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Shhh... you're ruining their moment!
- hypodan, on 10/11/2007, -13/+16Wow and yet he was voted back in. WHY?
- ziffel, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5I like how you substituted bashing GWB with bashing the "Office of the President of the United States of America". No one here is bashing the office of the presidency. If we're bashing anything, it's the moron who sits at it's desk.
- sexybobo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4you don't understand the argument at all what we are saying is that he didn't see the plane crash but that his choice of words made it sound like he had seen the plane actually crash.
the point is that BEFORE he went into the classroom he didn't see a plane hit a tower. we saw on the news that a plane had hit the tower. - sealteam, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5you guys really need CBC in the states
- jamin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Buried as inaccurate.
- JerodSlay, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3"I saw an airplane hit the tower." indicates his seeing the act happen.
"I saw an airplane had hit the tower." indicates his seeing the result of the action (hit).
"I saw that an airplane hit the tower." indicates his seeing the result of the action (hit).
Only the top would give rise to conspiracies and cover ups because no one outside of New York saw the first plane hit that soon. This is what Bush said. However, he most probably meant to say one of the last two statements, simply proving that he is not the best public speaker.
As much as I don't like Bush, I find it amazing a news program would use this verbal fumble as evidence of a conspiracy. - psygnisfive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5It's not even a link between Bush and Sept. 11th, it's a link between Digg users and a lack of knowledge about English grammar. They should all buy a copy of The Cambridge Grammar of the English Language. Here's a convenient link: http://tinyurl.com/27utnv
- Darkhacker, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5Is the Digg community really this ***** stupid and blind? All of you are so quick to blame Bush for every little minor detail and you foam at the mouth every chance you get. Had this been your hero, Ron Paul, maybe you would have used more common sense. What Bush meant by that statement was that he had seen a news report about the first plane hitting the tower. Not that he had actually seen it happen. Don't get me wrong. I hate Bush as much as the next American, but I'll give him a fair chance when he deserves it instead of playing Cindy Sheehan like a childish troll.
- wolfie8914, on 10/11/2007, -5/+8Bush is only human. A very primitive human.
- awfulgrace, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4I agree with you. I'm no fan of Bush by any means, but saying this statement is "lying" about 9/11 is really stretching things. He clearly was speaking of seeing the effects of the 1st crash, not the actual crash itself.
- sexybobo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4I was just trying to demonstrate the fact that this was ether a grammatical error or a grammatical misunderstanding. Not proof that the president was lying or that he had prior knowledge of the attack.
- rezist, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5The U.S. government is big buisness.
- FriedGeek, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4I hope everyone here heard about the Project for the New American Century report? It's the one that came out in 2000 that had the quote "...some catastrophic and catalyzing event––like a new Pearl Harbor." and had the WTC on the cover in cross hairs and pretty much described 911 a year before it happened?
Has anyone happened to look at the list of contributors of that report and compare it to names in the headlines lately?
Here's a few who worked on that report and you might recognize: Lewis Libby, Dick Cheney, John Bolton, Paul Wolfowitz, Donald Rumsfeld, Jeb Bush... Hmmmm. Sort of makes you think. - TubaTechno, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3and being "wisked off" meant he was going where? into the classroom or somewhere safe for the president? People are serious getting more lame here on digg by the day...
- ziffel, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2That's about the only look he's got. You'd probably get the same look from him if he was told Laura had been killed in a car crash. I have always been more taken aback by the fact that he just sat there like a stump for seven full minutes.
- arem, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3What the heck? His "blatant lie" is that he "saw the first plane hit the tower" instead of "saw THAT the first plane HAD hit the tower". Come freaking on.
- mz00m, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2holy sh*t... it really looks like him!
- ELCad, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2WTF are you talking about? Do you have a video link?
- wafflesomd, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2What a horribly stupid story.
- banjokelly, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Possible explanation - Bush is fallible like any of us. He did see the TV pictures of the smoke coming out of the first tower before going in to the classroom. He did hear about the 2nd plane hitting the tower in the classroom as reported. When asked to recollect how he learned about the first plane several months later, after having seen the pictures of the first plane strike in the intervening time, his memory played a standard trick and he believed he had seen the first plane strike on TV. The older I get the more I tend to believe this over the conspiracy theories.
