I think you misspelled "women" - ACityInOhio, on 10/12/2007, -4/+248[Paris Hilton] lives inside [her father's wealth] for long periods, feeding on the [father]'s [riches]. Once fully grown, [she] injects chemicals into the [father]'s brain brainwashing it and forcing it to [allow Paris to kill a once well-respected name]. Once [family name is dragged through the slut-mud], [the she-worm] wriggles out of the writhing [remains of dignity] and swims off in search of [any dude with a shlong and a video camera].
...I think we could learn a lot from nature. - leopardhunter, on 02/18/2009, -3/+123The more we know about parasites and microbes, the more it's amazing how these tiny things can in some cases change the behavior of their hosts.
- XSforMe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+115You'd might be interested in knowing that there are even creepier examples of parasites in the animal kingdom.
The Emerald Wasp (Ampulex compressa) requires a cockroach to breed. Once it finds such an animal it stings twice. The second sting is in the brain in which it injects as toxin to make the roach docile and without any will. It then literally rides on top of the roach in the same fashion you ride a hoarse and leads it to it's lair. In there, it will lay its eggs in the roach and then it abandons scene. After a while, little wasps emerge from the roach. If you are not impressed at this time, let me add to these creepy cocktail the fact that during the breeding of the larvas the roach is still alive and being eaten from inside. The roach never leaves the wasp's lair, even though its still alive and being eaten from the inside.

- UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -1/+107Yes, jokes about women and paris hilton aside, I found it disturbing that such a huge worm could fit in that small cricket.
- gus2074, on 10/12/2007, -1/+95"Parisite" Hilton. That's awesome!
- Wilcox, on 10/12/2007, -2/+93Wow, I just felt bad for a cricket...
Only on digg!! - BritishGolgo13, on 10/12/2007, -5/+91I wonder if that cricket posted on his myspace minutes before the incident.
- WarMace, on 10/12/2007, -3/+82Brainwashed is pretty complex for something that may of been much simpler. Like the parasite feeds on the crickets blood and causes the cricket to seek water out of thirst.
Would the same cricked have drowned himself if it were easily accessible water without a slippery edge such as a puddle?
Am i the only one shocked (grossed out) at the size of the parasite that came out? - rompom7, on 10/12/2007, -3/+79Wow, that is realllllllly creepy.. How big is that worm inside the cricket?!
"How do they know the worm injected chemicals to make the cricket jump?"
Because I don't think a Gordian worm speaks Cricket. - N00F, on 10/12/2007, -9/+79KHAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNN!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+62That had to have sucked for the cricket. That thing was huge.

Except evolution isn't exactly random.
1. Take 20 dice. Roll them. How many times would you have to roll them so that all 20 come up with sixes showing? Good luck.
2. Take 20 dice. Roll them, keep the sixes, and re-roll the rest. How many times do you think it would take before you had all 20 showing sixes? Not long.
The second example is more like evolution than the first, thanks to DNA. - GeneralAntilles, on 10/12/2007, -2/+47OH GOD! Chlorinate the pool! Chlorinate the pool!
- comradeTJH, on 10/12/2007, -2/+41ndonohue has probably already been brainwashed.... hmm...
- Ark7, on 10/12/2007, -19/+57Because people are tired of stupid atheist ***** who can't stop themselves from making EVERY subject, no matter what it is, about their faith. You're just as annoying as the aggressive evangelicals of every other religion.

I think we are born subscribed to nature. - Kahnza, on 10/12/2007, -1/+27I killed a cricket in my parents basement a few years ago and one of these worms came wriggling out. It was nasty and I didn't know WTF it was. Well now I know.

- calvmari, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26Hell, throw acid in the pool!
- lsatkins, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26I would never swim in my pool again if I saw that happening. That was just as bad as watching the centipedes that eat mice. Nature freaks me out sometimes.
- modernsquid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24of all the amazing, ***** up things i've seen on the internet, this must be in the top 10.

- cvh™, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16true that, i showed it to my sister, and she is defiantly not sleeping tonight.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19"uummm....doesn't this sort of suggest that there is a Creator?"
No.. It doesn't.
Doesn't _evidence_ of evolution "suggest" it is true? Yes, It does.
Scientists have provided you with facts and evidence for many years, Start respecting thier hard work by at least attempting to graps the simple concept of natural selection. - Cglass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Emerald Wasp Video:

- exipolar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13it was near a pool, it's likely that the whole thing was planned, rather they infected the cricket in the first place
"David Biron and his colleagues have used proteomics to characterise the proteins synthesized by the gordian worm in order to determine how it manipulates its host’s behaviour. They have established that the worm synthesizes proteins which mimic those produced by the insect. These include proteins of the Wnt family, which are involved in the development of the nervous system, as well as others which interfere with the neurotransmitter systems involved in the host’s geotactic behaviour (its oriented movements in relation to the Earth’s magnetic field).
Because the genes encoding these proteins are contained in the worm’s genome, but have a direct effect on the insect’s central nervous system when they are expressed, the relationship between the gordian worm and its host is an example of what Richard Dawkins called the extended phenotype, whereby genes expressed by one organism have an effect on the appearance or behaviour of another. (Entomopathogenic fungi and their hosts are also an example of an extended phenotype.) "

More understandable about hating a girl we would never want. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12ugh. i saw one of those worms at summer camp once. we had no idea what it was. it just looked like a piece of string until it started moving. no one believed we had seen what we described, and i kinda thought my mind may have been playing tricks on me until i saw this video.

http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v440/n7085/full/440756a.html - shanepayne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10When I was a wee lad, I squished a cricket and all these black worms started pouring out of it. It freaked me out. But I thought that all crickets were like that. So I would always tell people that if you stepped on a cricket that would happen. 300 dead crickets later I realized I was wrong.. Its good to finally know what the hell happened that day so many years ago.
- SickBoy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11It's not even noon and I'm going to make the bold prediction that that was the most disturbing thing I'll see all day.
