- Mitijea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15The circles inside the squares really was amazing. I would never have thought that to be a natural pattern, but there it was. It makes me wonder what else is all around us that goes unnoticed that we just haven't found the right way to look at yet.
- macamatition, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14It would be cool to do that on a much larger scale like a huge sandbox, with a bunch of kids running for there lives from the shape shifting sand.

It appears that the video was of a fixed membrane with the sound (vibration) being applied in the center. The salt collected in the nodes where the membrane wasn't moving. Very impressive!
- manfrin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8It's a catchphrase from the SomethingAwful forums spawned when some kid was playing a SA member in Starcraft, and he said over chat "im in ur base, killin ur dudes".
- marcuschi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Seriously. We've all been duped.
- FutureisDubious, on 04/04/2008, -1/+6That made my head hurt
O.o - dgemmer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3My cats went nuts trying to figure out this noise when I played it. Really funny.
- Rudigity, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3the first shape reminded me of the original xbox
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+31:47 - tick tac toe game where circle wins everything?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Very cool, the patterns at the extreme frequencies are really detailed
- CanceledCzech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I've seen this before; It never gets old.
- alteratti, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Saltatory Patternzzzz
- cptshamrock, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3This has been on the video home page like 3 times now. DUPE
- antymatter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2ok look, im not trying to be a douche and get dugg down for making a suggestion about repeat videos, but maybe there could be a section of like "digg essentials" a video collection tab or sweet stuff that's been around for a while(so just old stuff)?
i dont mean to say that this shouldn't be posted because ive bennifitted from repeat stories and videos that i found hilarious and interesting - Scynet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Ears imploded at 1:50 d(x.x)b
- Cerberus047, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2its also a ytmnd fad about catz in ur stuff...... but the submitter of this comment failed miserably (like my spelling)
Your supposed to do it when the topic is about cats.... like the niiiice is about older women with yonger men - wooties, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yeah. .. like, just because someone else has seen it means that you're lame because you haven't yet..
very cool vid. and i'd digg it again even if i saw it on digg before. - Rkstar, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4They're chladni patterns. And this story is a Dupe. http://www.digg.com/general_sciences/Salt_Manipulated_into_Amazing_Patterns_by_Sound
- dp1mat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That is very cool man
- rodgerdodger5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The amazing Chladni?
- antymatter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1when are they releasing the itunes visualizer plug-in?
- ajchavar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1theres a google video link above you
- Thumbz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So does anyone have any idea as to how this works, or what to search in Wikipedia? Honestly, I can't imagine what mathematics govern that salt into those intricate shapes, but it has to be something. Physics governs all! (except stuff we don't understand)
- redeye666, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is known as Cymatics originally researched properly by Hans Jenny. http://www.cymaticsource.com/
Absolutely amazing stuff once you get into it, in his book he actually mentions a form of defying gravity if you tip the plate/diaphragm holding the conductor it doesn't slip off, but he quickly moves on, not dwelling upon it as he was after all a "proper" scientist. - SakisRakis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Constructive and destructive interference of sound waves are shown in the salt (the salt moves to the destructive interference)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1YouTube?
- leelandpalmer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@LeechCharmer
If your hurting emanated from an open wound, try pouring a large quantity of salt on the bleeding, so as to soak up the worst of it. - mexicanp9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That's cool
- SakisRakis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Sadly a dupe.
- Shaidown, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1this is cool....but it's been on digg before
no digg - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1First of all, sorry for thread abuse.
This made me LOL. I'm the one who submitted it to Google video. This was actually from another site, but they got dugg to death so I mirrored it here for you to see. It's really cool, but I have to turn down the volume to watch it. The sound reminds me of that high-pitched mosquito thing. - ajchavar, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2i've never known what that was a reference to, could someone fill me in on why it used to be funny?
- madformadness, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Dupe.
Seriously, this video is ancient. - Lokix, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Mine, too. I hate being sensitive to high frequency/pitch sounds.
- cyroxos, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1I have seen this before, I'm pretty sure it is rice not salt.
- CanceledCzech, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1Why do people think that's funny?
- thumbup, on 10/12/2007, -23/+8I'm in your saltz, making you patterns.
