- Blizaine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6this same tour is on apples site and is better quality:
http://www.apple.com/appletv/tour.html - truman48, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I pre-ordered mine, but I wish the damn thing would ship sooner. My order status is showing Feb. 28th ship date. Oh well, I passed on so many iPod dock things that I know I would not be 100% happy with.
- jakatak, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Apple seems to always do things the right way. Always clean and simple.
- totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3So basically anything that can get into iTunes can be watched on Apple TV? This should be a boon to iSquint/Visual Hub-I think they send just about anything to iTunes.
- totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Basically, except of course you can't watch those TV shows and movies you bought/downloaded from Apple's iTunes store, right?
And while you may not have bought any, they did sell 30 million TV shows and over a million movies, so obviously some people did, and I'm sure some of them wouldn't mind beaming them to their TVs. - OpticalLiam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It sounds like pong.
- austindkelly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2rather just get the Mini and have a full featured system w/ front row.
- UxPx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Anyone with a working MythTV box know how it compares to this AppleTV?
I'm deciding whether or not to build a MythTV, or just hit up the retail AppleTV. - atarimasta, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3so... its basically the same as a modded xbox w/media center? Cause thats what im seeing.. Actually, i think XBMC can do a lot more then this has to offer, and it's free and I can still play games. I think apple makes some good products, but this one could have been soo much more.
- EricJD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's being "ported" to the Xbox. (an XBMC skin)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P-V2_wWdwDk - edzieba, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Except the iTV can only play h.264 in mp4 and mov content. You'd have to transcode pretty much every video you have in order for the iTV to work.
- honesttussey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Can someone PLEASE explain the appeal of this thing? I fail to see what it DOES....for a hundred bucks more you can get a full fledged Mac Mini.....or I can buy the Apple TV and.....stream content from.....iTunes......and that's it.....ok
- haggie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2“enables digital content to be streamed from any computer running Mac OS X or Microsoft Windows capable of running streamed media via iTunes onto an enhanced-definition or high-definition widescreen TV television.”
Huh? Wha?
Call me when the description is "recording and playback of content to a television". - raid517, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Someone should rip this and make it installable on an ordinary PC.
Just for the hell of it. - atarimasta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0True, but only videos with DRM protection..
This could easily end up an OSX vs. Windows vs. Linux kind of discussion between modded XBOX people and Apple people...
-Luke - sarnia, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2You can get a modded Xbox for cheaper than Apple TV.
It's a hell of a cheaper with better playback, and has more support online than Apple over the phone. - UxPx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1And I'm sure Microsoft will be more than willing to help you when you call at 11 at night on a saturday and say that you cant get your hacked firmware to boot properly...
- NateB2, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Looks to me like a stripped-down copy of Vista Media Center, but with some "cool" 3D effects and podcast support.
Its probably just me, but I prefer Vista's more visual method of viewing photos/music/videos. Sorting by tag, folder, artist, or other criteria can be accomplished in one click.
Also, Vista utilizes the horizontal aspect of today's 16:9 HDTVs. It could be just the recording, but it looks like the AppleTV is geared toward 4:3 displays.
AppleTV's screensaver is nice, but why would I want such a screensaver on a *TV*? When I'm done with my TV, I turn it off. It would look cool as a computer screensaver, though. - iconoclast7, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0piratebay+ big monitor ftw
