- MorganMghee, on 01/04/2009, -5/+289and your federal tax money has been withheld from the programs that DO work.

- Equinamin, on 01/03/2009, -9/+246Teenagers are the most consumer and internet savy' people, on the planet. As a Sex Ed. Nurse in schools in the past, they already know the questions they just want straight up' answers. How many billion dollars on again, bringing culture and religious age old attitudes into the 21st Century. It sure could have hired alot of great Nurses' with holistic and open views on healthy sexuality...and alotta- CONDOMS! Alot that could be utilized in countries where they would kill, to use them....
Money needs to be put back into the schools again, Nurses are a luxury now, not a Standard.
At least in Canada, that i know for sure. Our youth deserve straight up' answers, to their~ questions...and no guilt. - Alheithinn, on 01/04/2009, -12/+220How can you teach any kids anything you need to know if you pretend penises and vaginas don't exist? That's what I don't understand. To the religious conservatives, we're androgynous in every respect that matters. Statues can't have breasts or penises. You can't have vagina monologues because vaginas are politically incorrect, and you sure as hell can't have breast feeding because its inappropriate for women to have breasts. Is it any wonder then that conservatives have failed our children? How can you teach anything meaningful about sexuality if you are in denial of sexuality?
- greenfyre, on 01/03/2009, -5/+151Yes, a lot of teens are paying for adult's stupidity, but then what else is new?
- megapeg, on 01/04/2009, -2/+147In related news, the Pope continues to wear a funny hat, and bears still ***** in the woods.
- theexitwound, on 01/04/2009, -8/+150Abstinence worked for me only because my older brother came home to tell our parents that he was going to be a father. When you're 18, and you see it destroy your brother's life, it's much stronger than someone telling you not to do it.
Teach it, starting early, all of it. - debunkthelies, on 01/04/2009, -5/+131It was and is a stupid idea to teach abstinence only, that's like telling any developing creature, when they come of age, to not have sex when they come in season.
- ChinezePanda, on 01/04/2009, -4/+107No ***** Sherlock.
- terrachronos, on 01/04/2009, -9/+111Abstinence-Only Sex Education works wonders, just ask Sarah and Bristol Palin. Oh wait.....
- cg4et, on 01/04/2009, -5/+94Breaking News: Sex Feels Good And Teens Like To Do It!
Now how about we try universal access to birth control and see how well that works in contrast to abstinence-only sex ed. - Nannonybach, on 01/04/2009, -5/+92We got shown really horrific pictures of STI's in my sex ed. lessons. It'd be enough to put you off ever having unprotected sex. We got told about where we could get free condoms, we got shown how to use them.
And yet there are still two 17 year old girls I know who got pregnant.
The mind boggles at how much higher that figure would be if I went to school in the rather more backwards US of A. - peccadillop, on 01/04/2009, -2/+74Worked for me .... Unfortunately it is still working :(
- sunsetprojects, on 01/04/2009, -1/+70You are a ***** moron. An uneducated moron. You state lies and no evidence.
- inactive, on 01/04/2009, -6/+69Shhh yeah it has!
I've been fighting this fight since undergrad days, and I continued the fight into my decade of work with Planned Parenthood. Unfortunately, the scumservative rightwingnutjobs got a hold of this issue. Hopefully, now, most people in this nation understand that the FAILED POLICIES OF THOSE MORONS need to leave D.C. along with Dumbyah and his cast of evil characters.
Bristol Palin is the poster child for failed rightwing abstinence only education. Last I head, Babydaddy Levi has quit school and left Wasilla to work on Alaska's northslope oil fields.
Gotta love the irony, but I feel bad for that baby. - kareemachan, on 01/04/2009, -2/+55Hmmm, I thought we were talking about teens and sex ed.
- GalOnDigg, on 01/04/2009, -1/+48Troll
- inactive, on 01/04/2009, -25/+72religion needs to die and make way for the age of reason, common sense and critical thinking.
- Dumbledorito, on 01/04/2009, -2/+47This hits upon a problem for trying to show "people of faith" that something has failed: Very often, the absence of success only STRENGTHENS their beliefs for some reason. This isn't a troll; it's an actual phenomenon. For an extreme example, it's how doomsday cults can stay together in spite of every doomsday prediction having been pretty thoroughly shown to NOT have happened.
I figure they'll rationalize something like "well, it's not taught everywhere, that's why it failed" to "the secularists undermined our efforts" to "it was the devil who ruined everything, so give me more faith-based initiative money so's I kin cast him outta that hottie's underpants." - inactive, on 01/04/2009, -1/+45Hahahahaah, I hope this was intentionally funny.
- theexitwound, on 01/04/2009, -3/+44And it's really funny because looking up in any catholic church shows nothing but flying naked babies. And don't forget the picture of Adam pulling God's finger. But that's okay, right?
- JenniferInMO, on 01/04/2009, -7/+46This is the first time I have seen you post a comment without HAVING to post multiple sources then watching the comments indicate that knuckleheads refuse to read them. Glad to see you not getting attacked for a minute :-)
- theexitwound, on 01/04/2009, -1/+38It wasn't taught very effectively in our Catholic schools. Separated the girls and boys at 5th grade, did the biology thing, and then not again until 9th grade public (very limited) and more indepth in 11th grade public. By that time, you should have had far more education on the subject.
He's an idiot sometimes. Destroyed his life at the time, but he's a family man now. Three kids. - slmsaberhagen, on 01/04/2009, -2/+38"bringing culture and religious age old attitudes into the 21st Century"
+1 - atm259, on 01/04/2009, -3/+39Abstinence sex-ed CAN be taught along side of other forms other sex-ed. But you need to emphasize what happens when teens don't listen, which is what teens are good at doing.
Some of the most religious people end up having teen pregnancies...
eg. The Palin family... - pat25fire, on 01/04/2009, -3/+38Sex can wait, Masturbate!
Go Spartans! - bogdon6, on 01/04/2009, -2/+37Isn't sex ed the reason that the internet was invented?
- cersad, on 01/04/2009, -2/+37I'm just trying to imagine that:
"Now Bessie, don't let that steer mount you when you're in heat!" - Elderon, on 01/04/2009, -10/+44theexitwound,
I'm sorry that your brother ruined his life, but not being taught abstinence was not the problem, Not being taught safe sex practices was.
or your brother is an idiot and didn't bother to wait and use a condom. - Ragzouken, on 01/04/2009, -2/+36Ann Coulter, is that you?
- dosher199, on 01/04/2009, -1/+34Abstinence didn't work for Mary.
- MadN, on 01/04/2009, -7/+38Abstinence-Only Sex Education has totally succeeded for Fundies who want Granny Fundy to raise ignorant grand-baby fundies and place them in "no child left behind" (or no child gets ahead) schools.
Face it, Republicans need ignorant masses to keep their party alive. - jftitan, on 01/04/2009, -1/+32Abstinence worked for me too.... but that was only because my sister brought home 4 kids, and I lost my bedroom and had to sleep in the living room for years.
Yup... my sisters kids nipped it in the ass for me. I don't want children, and quite honestly I've decided that IF I ever mature and gain the patience for children again, I might adopt. There are far more children in NEED of families that WANT children, than TEENs who have sex, and are forced to keep the children due to religion.
And we wonder why our lives are so ***** up all the time. - 47f0, on 01/04/2009, -5/+36Abstinence-only education works - it's been raising the birth-rate and population of slack-jawed believers for centuries. It just doesn't work the way you think it should - or the way we need.
- KOSmurfy, on 01/04/2009, -1/+30"Abstinence works every time it is tried."
It works every time it's followed, which is almost never. - anonymous1986, on 01/04/2009, -8/+38Most people who deny global warming do not seem to know the difference between weather and climate. Either they haven't attended school or are still in primary school.
- inactive, on 01/04/2009, -2/+31It's a typical white trash story. Knock up a teenage girl, destroy your future instantly by having to go to work rather than furthering your education.
Sarah Palin's offspring appears to be even dumber than she is. What a damn shame. - Totz83, on 01/04/2009, -7/+35In before pedobear
- ousthouse, on 01/04/2009, -2/+30I was involved with a 'progressive' sex-ed program. They told us sex with a condom feels just as good as sex without a condom. The abstinence only people aren't the only ones who lie.
- TheGroje, on 01/04/2009, -0/+27Abstinence-only education leads to increased rates of teen pregnancy, which drives up the population, thus contributing to over-all global carbon footprint of the species, which increases global warming?
So clearly, not only is abstinence-only education ineffective at preventing teen pregnancy and STDs... it actually kills polar bears.
/threadjack - WoollyMittens, on 01/04/2009, -1/+26Sex-ed can't be completely taught at home, because sex takes two partners and you can never be sure if the one dating your child has had the benefit of education.
- Elderon, on 01/04/2009, -1/+26Say no to sex is a ridiculous concept whoever came up with it is a retard. It is more a a way to NOT answer questions then to help kids. I stand by my opinion that safe sex practices should be taught and also the cost of having a kid or medical bills that you might acquire from not practicing safe sex.
Humans are sexual creatures, it's hard coded into us. Telling to just not have sex is a good way to kill off the species if everyone listened to it. Anyways, what I'm trying to get at is that teens will all the hormones are going to want to experiment with sex regardless of what they are taught, so you mine as well teach them how to do it safely.
As a side note, no matter what you teach, there are always going to be a few idiots that don't practice what they were taught and end up wrecking there lives......You can't help everyone. - WanderOn, on 01/04/2009, -6/+30SHOCKER
- inactive, on 01/04/2009, -4/+28I'm guessing those two girls are either chavs or watched this animation.
http://www.somethingawful.com/flash/shmorky/babby. ... - inactive, on 01/04/2009, -4/+28Look at how many teenage moms there are, something has to be done!
- thayanmarsh, on 01/04/2009, -0/+23If you read another few lines, it says that they less often used protection... that would qualify as working worse imo. However, if your goal is to prevent kids from having sex, then, yes, you've failed.
- slezzzter, on 01/04/2009, -1/+24I say kids inside the USA are too young for their years. American adults try to keep their children as immature as possible for as long as possible (thus abstinence-only sex ed... "Oh no, my little darling can't have sex!"). A few harsh life lessons would be good for kids. It's time to stop shielding them from every perceived "evil" and let them grow up.
- ousthouse, on 01/04/2009, -2/+25Because we think that abstinence programs are the only reason why women don't have sex with us.
