Says it all, doesn't it? The NEA is the biggest selfhelp group in the country, they help themselves to whatever they can get their grubby hands on, and prevent anything (read vouchers) from getting away. - Dave91143, on 11/22/2008, -1/+1The government school system has reason to fear not only home school but Christian school. These alternatives regularly rate above the government school system. If your area is like mine, you have a number of "schools" being built with technology, expensive equipment, and "highly educated" personnel - this, so they think, makes for better education. The question to ask is; who better to "educate" a child, a machine or an educated person? Lyceums (a term I learned from my daughter's Christian history book) were typically a teacher such as Aristotle with a group of young people following posing questions, situations, etc. This versus the factory concept with a room of "infrastructure" in which pupils sat and absorbed from a machine. Key to education is individuation not the "one size fits all" concept! In short, "teachers teach"! In our situation, the cost of infrastructure and support staff supplants the instructor - no teachers = no education. Even with the use of computers and DVD instruction there should ideally be a "teacher" to field questions, monitor student progress, etc. Alas, no doubt Ms. Behar has been clueless of the biggest difference - the philosophy. The "religion" of the public school is Secular Humanism with it's nonsensical partner, evolution. The Christian School recognizes not only the rightful place of a Creator but the value of an Intelligent Designer who doubles as a Disciplinarian (taken from the word "Disciple") obviating the need for Police, suicide counselors, locker searches, etc. Dave.

The kids that I know who have been home schooled are the most solid of all the kids I see. The are the most well adjusted. They are usually the smartest and have the ability to reason and think. They are what schools use to put out before they got so screwed up that they graduate functional illiterates. I worked in a reading lab while I was working my way through college (yes some of us work our way through and don't depend on the government) and every class was filled to overflow with high school graduates who were reading at a 3d grad level. The public schools should be very proud of themselves for this accomplishment. Well like usual her ignorance is flowing over the top. Anybody who takes this refugee from the garbage dump seriously needs to get some psychiatric help.

they hear about public school kids which are at least half-way true
and they don't want anything to do with them. The rich elite won't put their kids
through public school either .
