- It is too recent (given that this was taken by a camcorder), recent nuclear tests were made underground in the Mururoa Atoll.
- The consequences were unexpected: hearing the crew, a zodiac boat was on location.

- deepdiggdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Many people have wondered how big this is. Well you can freeze frame at 0:28 and use a little perspective analysis. It works like this: The black smoke plume on the far right side intersects the horizon. The point at which this occurs is at the same height as the camera recording the event. We know that the camera is on a ship and we can see that this is not a huge vessel so it's likely about 25 feet above the water. Therefore the plume at that point intersecting the horizon is the same height. The width of the blast at the point is about 20 times that distance or around 500 feet across. The he tilt up to 45 degree angle and using that same interval it appears that the plume rises about 700 feet up. Now, anybody who knows geometry can tell you that a an object that has a known height (700 feet) is exactly the same distance away at its base when you sight the top at 45 degrees.
So, the ship is around 700 feet away from a blast that is 700 feet high and (at 0:28) 500 feet in diameter. - rindin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3From my experience with throwing fairly large explosives under water it would take something ridiculously large to cause a water spout that size.
