- codyman, on 02/10/2008, -0/+11how about making a donation only on the terms that inside each ladies stall, a plaque bearing "for a good time, call..." followed by the phone number of the person that gave the money?
- Jozer99, on 02/10/2008, -0/+9Carnegie Mellon has a couple of good ones.
First: In the 1960's, a wealthy alum donated a brand new library to CMU. There were two conditions. The library had to be built out of aluminum (which happened to be the main product of the company the alum owned), and be situated so that it was visible from the street for 50 years. They did it, and it is hideous (pict here: http://www.abulsme.com/trip/2003q1/p20030214201000 ... The second request was much odder: The wealthy alum's wife had a HUGE collection of books on horticulture, which the alum hated. In order to get the new library, CMU had to agree to take the collection off his hands. So the top floor of the library now houses the worlds largest horticulture book collection. CMU does not have a horticulture department, and the floor containing the horticulture books is kept locked and hasn't been opened in years (although you can make an appointment if you wanted).
Second: We got this piece of "art" generously donated to our campus. (Link: http://www.borofsky.com/public/walkingtothesky%5Bn ... - smackfu, on 02/10/2008, -0/+6The Churchhill College Chapel is staggeringly ugly.
- stcmoose32, on 02/10/2008, -0/+6Florence Moore Hall at Stanford is named after the donor, who, according to myth, required that ice cream be available at every meal. There are currently 8 flavors available at all times.
- Blandanomics, on 02/10/2008, -1/+6How about the anonymous 5 million dollar donation to temple?

- FatLoser, on 02/10/2008, -0/+2I actually like the way that aluminium building looks.

- Anubis2051, on 02/10/2008, -0/+1I drove over Lake Carnegie less than 20 min ago... never knew it wasn't a natural lake. Good place to fish though, incredibly beautiful.
- andyd273, on 02/11/2008, -0/+1When I get rich I'm going to donate $10 mil on the condition that they name the building Bob. Just Bob.
- SpykerSpeed, on 02/10/2008, -1/+2But college tuition has gone up beyond the point of reason. And most of that money doesn't go to the professors, it just goes to building up the schools' prestige.
- zeptobyte, on 02/10/2008, -0/+1I'm one of those people everyone calls by their full name.. -_-
- ZenMojo, on 02/10/2008, -0/+1I thought that lake was ***** suspicious. It's all murky on the banks and kind of creepy.
- Onyxblaze, on 02/10/2008, -0/+1Seriously,. stop calling my ***** neighbor. It pisses the hell out of them.
- Syric, on 02/10/2008, -1/+2Not necessarily, but most college graduates feel some form of gratitude or affection towards their alma maters. That plus it makes you look like a good samaritan. Point is, colleges wouldn't ask if people didn't give.
- marioday, on 02/10/2008, -0/+1what the F**k.
- Chaulis, on 02/10/2008, -4/+4I wish my university was like that. But sadly if this article contained Eastern Michigan University the sentence would read "While pissing matches, and gun fights are common between students at universities like Eastern Michigan University..."

- Syric, on 02/10/2008, -1/+1Go Jumbos!
- seastobble, on 02/10/2008, -4/+3curious?
- SpykerSpeed, on 02/10/2008, -3/+2Colleges are the only for-profit institutions that can get away with begging people for donations. Just because you graduate from a school and go on to become successful doesn't mean the college should get the credit.
- Smiley09, on 02/10/2008, -3/+1If/When... I have the money in the future I want to donate a janitors closet to my university. I am pretty sure I could, because people donate one chair and get a small name tag stuck on the back of them.
- inactive, on 02/10/2008, -3/+1Cute author. I'm adding her on facebook.
- hextic, on 02/10/2008, -6/+2It's missing four entries, but dugg anyway for awesome.
