- Dmilla16, on 02/20/2009, -0/+139#11 end subscription to Mens Fitness
- spaceshipsix, on 02/20/2009, -1/+115$55 worth of printer ink a month? If you're spending that much on ink you would be spending five times that on paper. Who is printing that much?
- ihavebeenseen, on 02/20/2009, -4/+89#9 Seriously, that date your on is going to abruptly end when you pull that coupon out.
- inactive, on 02/20/2009, -1/+82I keep clicking on this type of article, hoping for a brilliant insight or two. All I can say is if this is what passes for frugality in the 21st century, we're all *****.
- misterteenwolf, on 02/20/2009, -4/+70#11 - bittorrent
=) - BinaryDelt, on 02/20/2009, -0/+58Pack your lunch.
- orthodoxDrew, on 02/20/2009, -2/+59and what if you already live under these conditions
- Baffles, on 02/20/2009, -1/+40Who pays $25/month for a new book? Who pays enough to save $80/month by switching one phone to prepaid? These people are whack.
- diggydougie, on 02/20/2009, -0/+39The wife doesn't mind though. Long term (real) girlfriends don't either.
- Snap65, on 02/20/2009, -12/+46Even better ideas.
1) No need to worry. I shop at Save-A-Lot and the Dollar Store.
2) I need to check that one out.
3) Bottled water is gay. Boil some tap water and put in the fridge.
4) All you need is the internets.
5) Last time I checked the movies in our library were still on VHS. Plus I would have to drive there thus using my gas.
6) All you have to do is downgrade your plan. Instead of texting do it the old way. Just call them.
7) Most workplaces have printers or hang out more with your friends that have printers.
8) See #6
9) Learn to cook by using #4.
10) See #1 or just grow a beard. - Grazfather, on 02/20/2009, -2/+3011 - Quit hookers and blow
- sickbag69, on 02/20/2009, -2/+30You found that out? By doing some in-depth research. Dude, that isn't really something you can find out, it's just there, staring you right in the face
- sbcea, on 02/19/2009, -2/+28The library idea is a good one. I should dig up my old card.
- kingdurin, on 02/20/2009, -1/+27If you're in a position where saving $40 is crucial, you're going to be in deep crap when you need to pay that deductible.
- veriix, on 02/20/2009, -1/+26A land line? Cable? Netflix and a new book every month? New printer ink every month? Why not just sell your solid gold toilet too!
- sleepyness, on 02/20/2009, -2/+26That can't be healthy..
- thegrizz51, on 02/20/2009, -1/+23And by not eating a breakfast burrito every single day, you are less likely to die of heart disease, thus saving you some costly surgeries in the future!!! :)
Oatmeal is your friend, and helps keep your poop solid! - BlackOculus, on 02/20/2009, -2/+23I found out if I eliminated 1 breakfast burrito ($3.75) and morning redbull (12oz @ $3.00) from my daily routine (Mon-Fri)
($6.75/day) * (5 days of the week) ---> ($33.75/week) * (4 weeks/month) ---> ($135/month) * (12 months) ---> $1620/year - aladrin, on 02/20/2009, -7/+28Anybody who needs these tips has bigger problems.
- compgeek, on 02/20/2009, -0/+19not anything here that's not already common sense really
- Kronos6948, on 02/20/2009, -1/+20Exactly...and still end up with no money to save?
- rafleming, on 02/20/2009, -1/+20Misleading title. This isn't really 10 Ways to Save $500 a month.
This is 1 way to save $500 a month, with 10 different steps.
Big difference. - 919kwjc, on 02/20/2009, -2/+19# 12 - Stop paying for hookers and get a girlfriend (who has a job).
- StigNordas, on 02/19/2009, -2/+18Raising insurance deductibles is a good idea, then just drive like you're an old lady and park in safe neighborhoods.
- Curvearth, on 02/20/2009, -0/+14I think you hit the nail on the head with that one.
People don't understand the concept of saving money any more. They think that not getting a monthly pedicure is "cutting back". - MyKill0310, on 02/20/2009, -0/+14Which in turn saves you toilet paper, which saves you more money.
- driftwood07, on 02/20/2009, -0/+14soooo... are you going to?
- mizike, on 02/20/2009, -0/+14It's amazing how quickly things like that add up. I quit smoking 5 months ago and have already saved over $600. I only considered myself a moderate smoker, but $10/pack two or three times a week adds up damm quick.
- pinniger, on 02/20/2009, -1/+14Nothing new to see here.
- wolfing, on 02/20/2009, -0/+12or better yet, stop going to Starbucks. That's about a $700 savings/year at least
- MorbenDK, on 02/20/2009, -0/+12I realize girlfriends cost money and all, but if she moved in with you- she should be paying bills too.
- franklymister, on 02/20/2009, -0/+12If you are currently spending $4000 or so a month, then these kind of tips will help you out.
If you already got rid of your land line, check the prices at the grocery store, and don't spend hundreds of dollars a month on restaurants, then this list is useless. - cartmam114, on 02/20/2009, -5/+17Whats a land-line??
- ShoeSh1ne, on 02/20/2009, -2/+13Why the ***** would you drink a Red Bull every day?
- ZincSaucier, on 02/20/2009, -1/+12ah crap it only works for people who waste lots of money
- rhesus48, on 02/20/2009, -0/+11Is that suppose to be of general interest?
I shop at the public market, I don't drink bottled water, I have the cheapest cable plan available (stations 1-13, 10$), I don't have a cell phone, I don't pay for my prints, I don't eat out (I live in Rochester,NY and the restaurants are terrible) and I have a full beard. I guess I'm almost optimally rich. - Narcism, on 02/20/2009, -0/+11please be sarcastic.. please be sarcastic...
- Seth024, on 02/20/2009, -0/+10assuming you could get -50% with restaurant coupons, you could save another $120 by not eating out.
- sickbag69, on 02/20/2009, -1/+11Just don't eat out twice a week and you can save the same. But I guess a list of 1 wouldn't spread round the internets so quickly
- Leprince, on 02/20/2009, -0/+10Good call.
- smemily, on 02/20/2009, -0/+10I think he meant more that if you neeeed a website to tell you to stock up when things are on sale, or point out the $500 of waste in your budget, you are an idiot.
- tattertech, on 02/20/2009, -0/+10So how much more of a house did you buy than you could afford?
- Jeraden, on 02/20/2009, -0/+9haha, that made me laugh out loud
- shootsfired, on 02/20/2009, -0/+9I think the biggest way to save money it quit eating out / drinking.
Restaurants are usually over priced then include tax and tipping.
Same with bars/clubs: covers, watered down drinks, coat check, tips. - inactive, on 02/20/2009, -2/+10What a worthless list, I already do all of that and more.
- Aleut, on 02/20/2009, -0/+8Prostitution. It's the only option.
- timusca, on 02/20/2009, -0/+8Just FYI - they're not a monopoly... you proved that by going to a competitor.
- cdbeshore, on 02/20/2009, -0/+8no kidding. every time one of these damn lists show up, I check and am already doing everything on it. They need a list for us cheap bastards.
1. Eat your food cold
2. unplug the fridge in the winter and leave your food outside
3. consider the "enhanced" internet plan instead of "ultra"
stuff like that. - KSUdesigner, on 02/20/2009, -1/+9They don't dull that much from use, but yes they do dull from use. If you go through 2 disposables in a single shave then you're doing something wrong.
- njhardc0re, on 02/20/2009, -1/+9First date obviously not.
