- Games4Life, on 05/08/2008, -16/+61IMO it's better to just go to sites like digg who bring the top news to you.
- Nayson, on 05/08/2008, -11/+40http://www.bbc.co.uk > everything else.
- willk281, on 05/08/2008, -1/+26Unfortunately, Digg has gatekeepers just like any other mass media.
Proof? U can haz! Look at mrbabyman's submission history! Everything he submits gets dugg by his little "gatekeeping team," meaning that they can move a story to the front page without the help from "random diggers," who digg based on quality, importance, and general appeal. So to counter what you said, Digg (meaning it's collective users) doesn't bring us the news, mrbabyman does! BTW I love Digg and what it stands for, but people like mrbabyman are ruining this for everyone who shares our vision of Digg as "gatekeeper free."
Wanna help stop this? bury mrbabyman's *****! If you want, poke fun at him on his stories comments, he gets angry like a fat kid does when you poke their belly without their permission (BTW I always ask permission). - MattNF, on 05/08/2008, -4/+21Because everyone knows XKCD and lolcats are top news...
...
Ah, screw it, you're right. XKCD is awesome. - inactive, on 05/08/2008, -1/+15But you get more up-to-date news on other sites.
- TheGreatBelow, on 05/08/2008, -1/+14Obama (woot), Marijuana, Apple, Scientology, oh MY!
- MattNF, on 05/08/2008, -1/+13No.
- limezor2, on 05/08/2008, -5/+17I actually like Yahoo's news =)
- datagod, on 05/08/2008, -2/+13Did Yahoo report that they were about to get hammered into share-holder oblivion for NOT selling for $47,000,000,000? Seriously, are they on crack?
- PocketWatch, on 05/08/2008, -1/+11Yeah, if you only want the news that's popular amongst the community. If Digg is your only news source, let me be the first to tell you that Clinton won Indiana.
- schnikies79, on 05/08/2008, -0/+9You want unbiased so you come to digg?
What internet are you on again? - j4nj1m3n3z, on 05/08/2008, -2/+10Because the only important news going on is anything that has to do with praising Obama and bashing Hillary.
- santaliqueur, on 05/08/2008, -1/+8I didn't know Yahoo did either. They publish stuff from the AP and Reuters.
- ComeOutSwingin, on 05/08/2008, -0/+7I do. Is that bad? Should I stop?
- schnikies79, on 05/08/2008, -0/+6Digg is constitantly a day behind in the news.
BREAKING at digg means it happened yesterday morning. - handler, on 05/08/2008, -0/+5wtf?
- willk281, on 05/08/2008, -2/+7True and false. Digg won't be the first to break a story, but it's usually the second thanks to it's awesome community (except for you mrbabyman, you are not awesome). Plus the front page cycles more stories through its front page than your typical news site.
Digg is like hockey: It may take while to figure out what's going on, and while its "goals" (big-time stories) may seem few and far between, once you know how it's played you realize it's the fastest sport on earth. Plus most diggers wear helmets...ok, metaphor: over. - zenerdiode, on 05/08/2008, -0/+4But what if I wanted to know more about the Myanmar cyclone death toll? Is that type of stuff not news to diggers? Or do digger simply don't give a *****?
- Cattywampus, on 05/08/2008, -0/+4I sometimes use Google News, but to me, it suffers because it is put together by a computer program instead of by editors. Some of their choices of stories definitely look like they've been assembled by a machine, rather than by a human with an understanding of news.
- inactive, on 05/08/2008, -1/+5more like huffington post spam.
- AlanCayce, on 05/08/2008, -7/+11Google Reader ftw. Why just pick one news site?
- PARAPA, on 05/08/2008, -1/+5I would have thought BBC News would have been number one...
- LeeMaple, on 05/08/2008, -1/+5What no Drudge?
- ileftfark, on 05/08/2008, -0/+4Dude, GTA IV is out, and all you care about is Myanmar???
- StolenLamp, on 05/08/2008, -0/+4More like your penicillin... dirty whore.
- Blakechi, on 05/08/2008, -0/+4The summary when hovering over the headlines on Yahoo make it very easy to hone in on the interesting topics. It's something all news sites should adopt.
- nicku, on 05/08/2008, -1/+5I do agree. Yahoo's sports news is their best site. Very clean layout and easy to find info. Their news site is lacking in visual heirarchy and is looking a bit date. I think CNN and NYT have the cleanest easy to read news right now.
- KineticShampoo, on 05/08/2008, -0/+4Hardly any news on this site. Just ***** cats and xkcd. Guys I know the site, stop ***** posting it here every single week. Jesus.
- theotheragentm, on 05/08/2008, -1/+4Sweet! Now my stock...no wait. Still down.
- superdog87, on 05/08/2008, -3/+6I use Google News and Digg the most.
- Maver1c, on 05/08/2008, -0/+3that's sad.
- foolfoolz, on 05/08/2008, -0/+3Yahoo news is great. The organization and many categories are nice, and yahoo sports news is very well organized. I think it's easiest to find quick sports info on yahoo news than anywhere else, they even have a pretty good amount of stats.
The old yahoo movies pages are good too, very easily find quick - basic - info about a movie with out the information overload of IMDB.
front page of yahoo though sucks. who really needs all that crap? - tackle, on 05/08/2008, -0/+3FYI... They did report it!
- Kossic, on 05/08/2008, -0/+3Hey I used to hate Yahoo too. But Y! Go is the best app on my Blackberry. I get my news, my sports, my stocks, and my pics from flickr. Google comes close for mobile, but they haven't got it together yet.
- granolajoe, on 05/08/2008, -0/+3Say what you want about the design (I actually liked the old Yahoo News before the most recent update), but the efficiency and simplicity of Yahoo News is what places it above other news sites.
For about 5 years now, it's the very first place I visit in the morning when I want to get an idea of what's going on in the world, and especially when I'm strapped for time. Its organization of content makes it easy for me to get lots of info from just a brief look before I have to shut down and head out the door.
On the other hand, sites like CNN think they're doing a great job by using an image and bunching up a lot of headlines to the right. It's information overload, lazy and poorly organized. They don't even try to break up stories as well as they could on the front page without having to drill down by category.
In summary, Yahoo News FTW. - spammishking, on 05/08/2008, -1/+3he's been doing this all day, check his profile http://digg.com/users/bingoboner just bury, report and block
- tackle, on 05/08/2008, -0/+2Ouch. Yahoo! haters on Digg will have a hard time digesting this news.
- darthswarthy, on 05/08/2008, -2/+4Big difference there... Yahoo isn't producing news. They're just aggregating and running wire stories. I guess I'm out of touch, but I would expect the New York Times to be top 3. CNN/MSNBC are mostly repurposing TV news and talking heads, right?
- Charlotte_Web, on 05/08/2008, -0/+2Yahoo publishes articles; Digg links to articles.
- drjekelmrhyde, on 05/08/2008, -0/+2Yahoo links news from other sites which sites like Digg and Fark link news to Yahoo
- PenileCommander, on 05/08/2008, -1/+3agreed, I always use yahoo sports, not just for news but for the fantasy leagues too
- eatrains, on 05/08/2008, -1/+3What about Yoo-hoo?
- Kratos76, on 05/08/2008, -0/+2Good Lord, what a bunch of retards. I've never seen such a poor display of comments. Lets just admit that these results are based on the 90% of internet users that don't use digg or any other rss feed for news, don't have a gmail account, and are most likely Not web savvy. Thank you. That is all.
- aboyd, on 05/08/2008, -1/+3On news.yahoo.com right now: 15 headlines above the fold, 2 of which are questions.
- snotrokit, on 05/08/2008, -0/+2Hmm MSNBC in third, bet that pisses off Ballmer right now.
- qwertydvorak, on 05/08/2008, -0/+2yummy. shake well though.
- rrc589, on 05/08/2008, -0/+2I like Yahoo's "tired-ass" design. :(
I'd also like to mention . . .
Yahoo! Sports > All other sports sites - pumacub, on 05/08/2008, -1/+2The problem with these numbers is the way they're reported, CNN and Yahoo both roll up a lot of other traffic into their numbers which MSNBC does not.
- RyeBrye, on 05/08/2008, -0/+1I prefer cbssportsline.com's player profile pages because they have fantasy analysis.
