Worst Website Ever? Why? Cause this is my WEB DESIGN TEACHERS site.
web.stcloudstate.edu — We have all had 'that teacher'. This guy didn't understand ANYTHING, and he is a DOCTOR. Now, personally, I am a really bad web designer. Why? Because this guy was my teacher! A favorite quote from this guy (in a South African accent): "Web designers work for peanut money." (What he meant: They work for peanuts)

Yes you can, you've just used a double negative. - FartyMcPooPants, on 10/12/2007, -0/+97Reminds me of a lecturer I had once.
He was so obsessed with reading his own overhead slides (No powerpoint for this IT professor) that quite literally you could start juggling in the theatre without him noticing.
Oh we also danced the Can Can, and did a mexican wave, yet still he kept on talking, and talking, and reading his own slides, never looked up once.
Now that was a lecturer who would be happy with a statement like 'I cannot not teach you anything'
Luckily the rest of the teaching staff were a lot more competent. - whymanwhy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+195Wow ITT tech grads really stepped up the quality of their work.

- anonyjames, on 10/12/2007, -0/+50I had this teacher the first semester he was at St. Cloud State. Here's a few things he did:
One day he was lecturing about people being disrespectful (I believe it was after someone corrected him on the fact that VLAN's don't sort traffic by TCP Port, but everything he taught was wrong so it may have been something else). Then he told a story from his past teaching job (at I believe an all-black college, where he couldn't declare racism) about some student that wrote a terrible teacher review, then afterwards, would say hi to him in the hallway like nothing happened. Then a student in my class asked "but aren't those anonymous?" He replied angrily "well, you can tell by the handwriting". Then, he continued to go on about how some day we'll be applying for grad school, or applying for a job, or running for president. And they might not talk to him, but, teachers talk to each other, and you won't get away with that.
The lesson is, if you write about his poor performance on the anonymous teacher review, he'll try to sabotage your life.
Worst teacher ever. And the head of the Stats department (Computer Networking and Applications was in the Stats department) had no balls and buckled under his threats of racism lawsuits, and did nothing.
After one of the students got kicked out of the class (which was completely against SCSU policy, as he didn't meet any of the requirements before a student can get kicked out), we passed around a petition that said the student didn't break any of the policies, and it was unlawful to kick him out. All but 2 students signed it. They still didn't let him back in. When we did our anonymous reviews, a number of students were worried that he'd sabotage their careers if they wrote a negative review, so we passed around a supplementary review, with a lot of yes no or multiple choice questions about the unethical things he's done in class, as well as the constant factual errors in his teacher. They still did nothing. - WikiEasy, on 10/12/2007, -12/+7That site is better than 99% of myspace profiles! At least he doesn't have:
- 100 animated GIFs in one page
- 30 videos all playing at the same time
- 20 music tunes playing at the same time
- animated background
- 50 flash animations
- unreadable text on strange background
To me the site is obviously a fake. I played the same prank on a bunch of friends a few years back, and made them give me critique on my site. It was so fun watching some of them squirm but pretend they actually liked it. Hehe.
Oh and the guy looks like some character from 419 eater. - Agret, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2"by shadcrkd 4 hours ago

The reason that Google has so many errors is that they broke the rules to make the size of their HTML smaller. Considering how many hits their front page gets per day, the broken rules could save them thousands of dollars. - manova, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@outhouseinput
He does not have degrees from MIT, they look like certificates of completion for single classes. His EdD is from UNC Greensboro, MS from Queen's University, and BS from Ahmadu Bello University.
Also, if you look at his published work, most of them are presentations. It is much easier to get a presentation accepted at a conference than a paper in a journal (I remember a story not too long ago where a group submitted several fake computer generated babel to a CS conference and most of the papers were accepted). Now to give the guy some props, he has generated some major grant funding.
@cawpin
There is nothing wrong with a 13 page resume in academics. I have seen many vitae (academic resumes) that are 20-30 pages. Get good grades in High School kids. Good Universities have good teachers. - Rhombazoid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16On a somewhat unrelated note, my teacher finally upgraded to IE7... when it asked her to turn on the phishing filter she let out a big sigh and declared "this new stuff is just too much for me." Where do school systems find these people anyway?
- doctorcaligari, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16@ Rhombazoid
It's called getting old. After age 35, most people don't want to have to learn anything new. I literally hear the phrase "I'm tired of learning this new stuff" on a daily basis.
The cut-off point seems to be 1995. If someone graduated from high school or college before then, they most likely didn't have to use computers or the internet much for their work (unless it was your major or hobby). After that, you have at least some working knowledge and are adept at computer/internet use. If I hadn't gone to college, I would be in the same boat. I used a typewriter for all my papers until 1996, when I had to take a mandatory computer class. - BigKitty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@doctorcaligari,
There are a few exceptions - I have 30 years of IT experience...yikes...still learning all the time... - rajulkabir, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0"The cut-off point seems to be 1995. Maybe if they went to a lousy school.
When I started college, 10 years before your cutoff date, the first thing they did was give us an email account. I was required to take at least one online course, and I had several professors who preferred to receive papers emailed rather than on paper. Everyone I know who went to this university (which is a lot of people - it's a big place) is comfortable with computers today. I was a liberal arts major; I don't think I knew more than a handful of engineering students and I definitely don't know anyone who graduated compsci. - BarneyXP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@rajulkabir "I was required to take at least one online course"
You went to college in 1985 and you were taking online courses wow. Sorry if I look like a noob I wasn't aware that they had online courses back then. I should hope you know a bit about the internet today. - buadach, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@Dr Caligari
Speak for yourself. I took my Computer Studies O'level (UK High School) in 1984 and I am now 38 and my mother was a computer programmer until her retirement last year. Computers have been around for a lot longer than you think. - xigxag, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I had to suffer through something similar last semester at tech school. The instructor teaching web design hadn't evolved yet. He was afraid of learning any scripting or flash, and had just started learning CSS. Sheesh, it drove me crazy.

I'm crying inside.- doctorcaligari, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25In the education field, you only have to know a little about something to be considered a guru. It's pretty much "He/She knows alot about computers! Lets promote them". People with average computer intelligence are considered "experts" in many districts, when most of the high school students know more about technology than they do. Many of these "experts" also never update their knowledge, and fall behind the curve real fast. But since they used to know alot about Win3.1, they are still considered "experts". I should know. I work with them daily.
It's like this: A pretty girl in a small town may look smoking hot. But she is just looks average when she gets to the big city.
Thanks, Digg, for helping me stay informed.

- cbreaker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Yea and I love the mangled proverb: "It would be nice if I also help you to master
how to fish rather than giving you a piece of fish each day."
It's like a bad Andy Kaufman impersonation. - FuzzyTheDuck, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Yeah, so long and thanks for all the fish.
- warchant, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2sadly..i had a web design teacher who's site was not much better
- jrcarscadden, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Wow! I made sites better than this when I was younger as well.

- crilen007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10With web design like that, he's prolly still playing Daggerfall.

,,,,:_:,,,, - mc7winkie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I like the back to top link. It saves me so much energy as compared to moving my pointer finger onto the scroll wheel.
- adstretch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@lokoluis15
actually, pretty much every link on that page links to a folder, its like he didn't even try it out after he uploaded that steaming pile. he just let it fester. - FlindianaJones, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Hello, my name is gratutious table, and I've been raped by having excessive links put in me repeatedly for the last five years.
- darnit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5loko.

- jwpowless, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Thank God he listed the MSNBC web site link for me...I NEVER would have figured out that one on my own......
- gavintlgold, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How about this:

My former teacher. I tried to fix it for him, but never ended up doing it. AAAA it's so ugly. - steal_apps01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2wow hardcore html
- Maniaca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Well, there are doctors and then there are doctors. An Ed. D. is the bobblehead doll of the doctoral world. People get Ed. D degrees for writing about how nice their favourite teacher made them feel in kindergarten.
- TheAkolyte, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I remember how much my English teacher would go on about how ***** awesome she was for having an Ed. D. She would get pissed off if we didn't call her "Doctor Soandso.
- robdiggity, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Seriously though, Mrs. Guahn kicked ass. She was very cool about the poopy pants and had the sweetest reading voice.
- Wrathernaut, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Hey, they may not know jack about the subject, but they sure can teach what they don't know well.
Seriously though, unless they got a doctorate in education with an emphasis on computer science, do you really expect them to know the subject matter? Try getting a dentist to change your transmission and you'll get similar results.
You sometimes have to pick something you're unfamiliar with to get a job.
- Interex, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4WOW! Just wow! For a second there I thought I had fallen into a time warp and ended up back in the late 80's / early 90's and the horrible early years of AOL.
You might want to get a refund on that course. ouch. - version30.x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I seriously think that I used that same exact spinning globe on a university Website that I built back in 1996! I'm serious! It was hot at the time...
- psyphen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Miss Dolphin, you are the No. 1!
- cracker42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Oh man... the links under "Want to have some fun?" are priceless.

7th one down - McLumpy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1When was the last time those pages he links to were updated? 1996?
- bloodymad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Well, I was actually scared of clicking on "Want to have some fun?", not knowing what would await me there...
- Strangers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Seeing as there's a george bush related page, surely he's updated this since 2001, and the page info gives it as 2005 :(
- glasgowm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13"Okay I need to see how babies boogie and why"
- homestar14, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11What's up with the links' file types? Is it so hard to make an "About Me" page in html?
- ZeroMP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Apparently it is really hard to make much of anything in .html
:P
- ZeroMP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Apparently it is really hard to make much of anything in .html
- Shawnosaurus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4MLyzz, go ahead and get us this guys boss on this thread. I think we can all vouch as internet users that this guy's skills are horrible. Anonymously send it in or something. You have to fight the power!
Animated spinning globes make me want to pee on lawns. Not sure why.- ringo380, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20I've had design teachers like that, and it never fails that I feel sorry for them. I have no ***** clue why. I'll bite the head off of any other professor who completely fails to display any competency of the subject they're teaching, but web design teachers just have this naive pride about them. As if they think they are passing on this great wealth of knowledge on to you. How do you spend any real amount of time on the internet, and then make something like this and claim to be a professional? I just have this initial, "Aww, the little guy thinks he can make a real live website, I don't want to say anything mean" mindset.
Then I remember that I paid for this *****, and all sympathy fades away. *****.

- shagen454, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12LOL, I like how you have to download a .doc file in the "about me" section.
- AdmiralChuckles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5My first web design instructor had an entire collection of animated GIF cats that he made himself... Cat working out... Cat laughing... Cat Sleeping... woooh college!
- Embrace, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Wow, My girlfriends dad is a professer at St. Cloud State, this is depressing.
- mattyfu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Is he on a leave of absence?
- osirisx01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Um..... what the ***** is a panda doing on the bottom of the page?
- devek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+29rolling around.
- heaintheavy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Thanks, just because we in Minnesota are a bunch of hicks, it doesn't mean you have to let the entire World Wide Web know, too...
Oh, and somebody tell Famous Amos it is called "interactive" now.- swiseman, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2Just because you're a hick, it doesn't mean anybody here cares!
- SuburbanDave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Why is this guy teaching web design? Because anyone that actually KNOWS web design wouldn't take the pay cut to become a teacher.
- bacon_skoda, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Same thing for translators for HK movies.

- JonHs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I don't see Stevie Wonder teaching people to drive, so why is this man teaching web design? He is a disgrace.
- eivissu, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3the early 90's called... they want their design back.
- jakebarnes, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Slow digg day...

He's asking for a DDoS because of a bad design. He's cool, or something.
- Enchirito, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3<marquee> ftw!
- dfunct, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1I'll go one better, we got a tutor the sack because he was certain that there was no such thing as CAT5e or CAT6 cabling. Oh and also that the only wireless technologys where Infrared and Microwave line of sight devices. I know its callous but I'm really not upset that we got him the sack
- guregu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12You better the sack your English professor also.
- leftover, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3wtf is up with the 13 page resume in the "about me" link?
- koick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2How the hell do you think he got the job? He wowed them with his 13 pages of unrelated/inflated and potentially artificial claims.
- seiha, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2i lold
- MrUnderbridge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10C'mon. This has to be a joke. Right? What the hell is "Miss Dolphin: You are the #1" with the dolphin jumping through a hoop that contains this guy's head? I refuse to believe this is real. I refuse. It's too good to be true.
Sadly, I figured this would be another "bad" site that was old-school and not up-to-date with flashy graphics. But, oh no. For a minimalist site, I think it's about as bad as it could possibly be. - tombomb, on 10/23/2007, -1/+14Still better than 99% of the MySpace designs.
- hockeycardguy9, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0He didn't even change the title. It looks like a school default title...
