Hooray for America's wang! - Jaime2000, on 10/24/2009, -5/+175Since the earth is floating in space with no reference points, this "upside down" map of the planet is just as valid as the one we are used to seeing.

- saxquiz, on 10/24/2009, -13/+54The people asking, "What's the point" don't seem to understand that the point of this is to show that the way we draw our maps is arbitrary. There is no up or down in space. We could draw it with the poles on the right and left too.

- oriondr, on 10/24/2009, -12/+37Thanks, Captain Obvious!
- TEdwardK, on 10/24/2009, -3/+26Umm, probably because it improves the the spatial ability of a child when they try compare it to a "normal" map. That's a big part of a persons intelligence. It sucks you couldn't appreciate what the designer might have been trying to do for you. I think it's a great idea.
- Crass22, on 10/25/2009, -0/+20You could definitely draw a map with the poles on the side, you would just have to imagine that it would rotate along the horizontal axis instead of a vertical. Thus again reiterating the point of being arbitrary.
- choopie911, on 10/24/2009, -6/+26This brought back memories for me actually... For some STUPID reason in 6th grade, my class had to memorize the european countries...on a map like this. It was a map from some australian designer that wanted to show the two perspectives of up and down, etc.
I still have no idea why the hell you would get kids to memorize countries on a completely unconventional map.... - MacHarborGuy, on 10/24/2009, -2/+20Middle-Earth!!!
- TheDiggAbides, on 10/24/2009, -6/+24Hey look this time it's the Southern hemisphere that had advanced civilizations who brought the world into the modern age.

- aderek, on 10/24/2009, -2/+17Interesting fact.
Muslum cartographers traditionally did this, and it nearly caught on Europe, so much that in the middle ages, numerous European maps were made what we'd today consider upside down. No doubt if Islam had dominated more in Europe, we'd look at world maps like this today. - centran, on 10/24/2009, -0/+15I am going to print this map out so I am ready and have my new map when the magnetic poles flip.
- grantmoore3d, on 10/24/2009, -5/+18Uhh oh!! Now we're USA's belt, not sure if it's going to hold!!! Lol jk jk
