"That's a really creative way to both waste space and natural resources at the same time. Love it. Go humans." - spookyttws, on 03/19/2009, -1/+22*****, why one earth would anyone pay $48.00 for something a $.99 lighter could do (and probably last twice as long). Hell, if you really wanted such a thing super gluing 100 matches to a block of wood would only cost you $5 and a half hour sitting in front of the TV.

Wait, that could turn out bad. - fezzasus, on 03/19/2009, -0/+14I want to strike them all at the same time.
- garylouden, on 03/19/2009, -2/+12Would prefer a lighter.
- Lorddias, on 03/19/2009, -0/+9"Such a great design with a super 70s color theme and Bauhaus aesthetic."
Seriously? - HotSaucePanCake, on 03/19/2009, -2/+11It's called Paid Advertising
- LeviTheSmith, on 03/19/2009, -1/+9Wood you really?
- tsotha, on 03/19/2009, -0/+8I would never be able to resist striking one and using it to light the rest while they were still attached.
- soupdawg30, on 03/19/2009, -1/+8Seems like a waste of wood.
- mynameistux, on 03/19/2009, -0/+6I would leave all the matches in there, and never use it. Using a match makes it less complete.
- Hellahulla, on 03/19/2009, -0/+5It's 100 matches ... 2 boxes worth, you can get them for no doubt less than ¼ of the price of this "lifestyle" object ... they're matches FFS.
Also, how much wood is wasted in the base? And why the hell do they have to describe such a simple thing as if it defines your life and personality? - Premier, on 03/19/2009, -1/+6price?
- svensksvamp, on 03/19/2009, -1/+6stupid

- jgubbe, on 03/19/2009, -1/+5Get a skill saw or table saw to cut wooden block. Then use red phosphorus as the igniter, and a mixture of potassium chlorate, sulfur and binder as the fuel. Just dip end of cut wood into mixture. Staple fine grit sandpaper to side of block.
don't cry when you hurt yourself. - Totz83, on 03/19/2009, -2/+6Who uses matches these days?
- inactive, on 03/19/2009, -0/+4wow, another piece of indulgent design that serves little except to call attention to how clever the designer is.
aka, ***** design. - LeviTheSmith, on 03/19/2009, -0/+3Wow way to really STICK it to me.
I wonder if this is what trees feel like when they are BURIED. - merlin5, on 03/19/2009, -0/+350$ for a block of matches? Now thats progress!
- LeviTheSmith, on 03/19/2009, -8/+11Wow what a striking design. I wood definitely buy that.
- Wubsy, on 03/19/2009, -0/+3These comments suck as much as the idea of the product and the fact this is front page material does.
- inactive, on 03/19/2009, -0/+3Matchbook Pro
- ultrafez, on 03/19/2009, -0/+3I see what you did there.
- OLTP, on 03/19/2009, -0/+2It's like the Apple of matchbooks.
- AnotherBrian, on 03/19/2009, -0/+2I'm sure it was cut from a solid block of wood. All it would take is 19 careful passes on a table saw.
- zebragrrl, on 03/19/2009, -0/+2that's totally all I can think of when seeing that... how awesome it would be to light them all at once.
- inactive, on 03/19/2009, -0/+2Simply a pyromaniac's delight!
- lilricky, on 03/19/2009, -0/+2First off, these people did not "design" nor did they cut those matches out of a block of wood, if you look closely at the first image on the page, the one showing some of the matches missing, you will see that they simply glued the matches and matchsticks together in a square block shape. Some of the manufactures glue a veneer of wood around the block portion to hide the glued sticks, which is the one you see on the second image. If you would like one, there are several Chinese distributors selling these, have been for at least 10 years now.
- TransmitThis, on 03/19/2009, -0/+2To me that looks like they got some long stick matches and cut the tops of half of them, then glued the lot together to look like a block.
Are you saying it's an actual real block of wood that has been carved, if so I don't believe you - crazymonkey, on 03/19/2009, -0/+2While I think the wooden match block product is more an exercise in style versus utility, I'd love to see you light a 9 year old child's birthday cake candles with that jet engine you say would be more impressive.
No really, I'd like to see it - youtube link anyone? - Frankttank, on 03/19/2009, -0/+2looks like a fire hazard, one of those accidentally get lit, the whole thing is gonna burn.
- phishneslo, on 03/19/2009, -0/+1it is, which is why it costs $48. look at the website, everything there is expensive/designer stuff.
http://www.fitzsu.com - seventhc, on 03/19/2009, -0/+1They are useful for camping, candles that come in jars, BBQ's, etc.
- DrLeePhD, on 03/19/2009, -0/+1not to mention it's about 50 cents per match. definitely for special occasions.
- Sergej, on 03/19/2009, -0/+1Yeah....accidentally....right.
- a117, on 03/19/2009, -3/+4Why light up something with a match when you could use this:http://farm1.static.flickr.com/1/52985_e5c07399c5. ...
It's just as useless and far more impressive. - dafragsta, on 03/19/2009, -0/+1Not to mention a friggin' awesome fire hazard. I wish I had one just to light the whole thing up. ;)
- TWillz, on 03/19/2009, -0/+1About .50 cents a match.
- garlicdeath, on 03/19/2009, -0/+1Probably not as awesome as you think it would be.
- CuedUp, on 03/19/2009, -0/+1Say what you want about this design, but The Dieline in general features some killer packaging. Great blog.
- ultrafez, on 03/24/2009, -0/+1Yep. Did you not?
- lornefs, on 03/19/2009, -0/+1Me too but it wouldn't be worth 48 bucks.
- TransmitThis, on 03/19/2009, -0/+1Hrm, that's kinda what I said 4 comments up :)
- nomoreink, on 03/20/2009, -0/+1That's what she said.
- sea206town, on 03/19/2009, -2/+2No way matches cut from wood?
