What is it about DUPE that people don't understand?
davekoss.com — Articles on Digg looking familiar? Of course they are. They've been here before. What possesses someone to go through all that trouble submitting a story when most of us have seen it before?
- 28 diggs
- digg it
- upenox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I've been wanting to post something like this. I am sick and tired of seeing all of the dupes. Almost sick and tired enough to switch back to /.
- beesforbreath, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2but this is a rant. it doesn't serve much good to tell us what we already know, why not pose a solution to the problem?
- skoops, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I was just submitting a similar story when the system referred me to your article. You're absolutely right!
- graywh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Almost funny. It would only notify you of the dupe if you were digging his blog post.
I think most people post a dupe because they want the recognition of getting their article on the front page or think they can write a better title and description to get more diggs/interest.
- graywh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Almost funny. It would only notify you of the dupe if you were digging his blog post.
- xample, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2dupes aren't as bad as you make them out. more people get to see the content. most people complain about them because they want to make sure they get the digg credit for the story.
- gregmo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I can't wait for the day that one of the links on the front page is www.duggmirror.com/technology/bhlahasdf
- hlheavyd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1ahh get over it man! Not everyone is a long time user like you or I... So yea, the new people are going to post things we have already seen.. they are learning just like you had to learn when you first started. So whats the big deal if we seen something we have already seen earlier before. if there is a duplicate story, we all have the power to bury it and mark it as a duplicate story. It takes a lot more than the digg admins and mods to run this site, it also requires our help!
- mentor972, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If you're new, just go look at the old article. When digg submit says, "THIS IS FREAKIN OLD", you cancel your submission and just get over it. Why submit anyway????
- Snyder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2DUPE! This article is a dupe!
How? This kind of ranting and raving about dupes is just as much a dupe in my mind as the dupe stories themselves cause I read it every day. If a story is a dupe, BURY THE STORY! I found this story because you were spamming in the comment sections of other stories. In your article you say "This is what makes Digg so frustrating! Next time, pay attention and stop bugging all of us!". I'd like to say, think about those words before you write your next article and spam us.- mentor972, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1U R GAY
- theonlybigboss, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11 stop being a dupe nazu

thanks have a wonerful day - PowerCow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1digg dupe search isnt always that good... you'd be amazed at the dupes i have found that digg dupe search didnt..
Plus i dont mind important stories gracing the front page twice because a majority of people didnt see it the first time it was there at 4am... i can scroll, my life isnt ruined.. it's not like i actually have to read the story again. If tv was like digg there would only be first run shows. But it isnt and when it is a rerun i cahnge the channel.
News reporters would have to get the whole story before publishing because once you publish, any new information would be contained in a dupe.
I am amazed at the people that get irrationally upset at the dupe stories.. you can easily block people i do it all the time, add the mega submitters as friends..
I was duped earlier today... guy even used same title as me, 1 hour after me.. his made it to the front and i dont care.
