- spworm, on 11/12/2009, -1/+8They need to be web 3.0!
- unfromcool, on 11/12/2009, -4/+11In short, make a simple logo. The end.
- digitalArtform, on 11/12/2009, -1/+7Every article tells designers the same thing, but these articles are not being read by clients.
Most clients confuse logos with logo treatments. Good luck presenting them with a flat-filled vector shape. - spworm, on 11/12/2009, -1/+5I WANT SPARKLES!
Why won't you give them to me? :.......( - brotherfranciz, on 11/19/2009, -0/+1They forgot to mention the Coca Cola logo.
- Cyberwretch, on 11/12/2009, -1/+2Buried for rookie apostrophe error.
- Benno, on 11/12/2009, -1/+2Sony's logo isn't a great example for text only; the others are good though.
- fljotavik, on 11/12/2009, -3/+3Good article. As a graphic designer, it always pisses me off when a client asks for a million different themes to be included in one logo. That, and when they ask why every logo doesn't have gloss, reflections and multiple gradients.
- 2Deluxe, on 11/12/2009, -2/+2Settle, petal.
- h3110, on 11/12/2009, -6/+6logos don't need to be "web 2.0"
- rico1281, on 11/13/2009, -0/+0Good article glad I read this since I am trying to figure out what I want for my logo of my new company. I am building snowboard racks so I was thinking Winter Racks LLC, and Mountain silhouettes behind it, or a snowflake in front, followed by Winter Racks. Not trying to be spam but it is www.winterracks.com if you guys care to see what I am selling.
- MtheoryX, on 11/12/2009, -1/+1You seem pretty superficial when passing judgement on designers because of what they wear.
- BoneStamp, on 11/12/2009, -1/+1You mean my logo doesn't need to have the first letter of every word in my company name? And I don't have to make one letter look like something related to my business?
- topgigmedia, on 11/12/2009, -3/+1You should really be thinking long term (up to 2012 - when it all comes crashing down). Until then - Web 8.0.
- algaeturd, on 11/12/2009, -9/+31. I would never take design advice from someone who designs from a ***** cubicle, even if the name is just a euphemism.
2. Never, ever, ever use a Netflix logo as an example of something done right. It works because netflix is an amazing company and delivers to customers what it promises. They could have a logotype written in comic sans and it wouldn't hurt their image any or slow down their business.
Good design is visceral and instinctual. I've never liked dudes in horn-rimmed glasses who carry around portfolios and wear navy blazers with denim as a sign of 'raging against the corporate machine.'
Not saying this dude fits that description but most of these design articles that make the front page of Digg smack of freshman design class, tacklebox, french curves, faux leather portfolios, dudes in cardigans and girls with bobs and subtly visible tattoos.
I just think it's funny when people treat it like a science where there is a right way and a wrong way to design. You're either good or you're not, successful or not. But the dudes that take it too seriously...not all the success in the world can keep them from seeming like they would be more at home in the accounting office than in an art studio.
