Website emulating DOS

20-goto-10.com — AJAX website looks and works like DOS. You type commands to 'browse' the site. Pretty nifty.

    DOS didn't fall of the face of the earth. Why do people feel they must spout out useless comments about articles. Get this people, you don't have to post a comment to every story. If you aren't interested in the article or post, don't look at it. Move on to the next.

    Now back on topic, if any of you like this you could try out "dosbox" for windows or *nix. Really fun to search the abandonware sites for an old DOS game you used to love and play it in dosbox.

    You need to improve this in some way. I think it'd be cool if you added BBS textfiles (http://www.textfiles.com/) from the bad ol' days. You could co-operate with them or somebody else on this.

    Something else that would be cool if you could make an interface that emulates the old Wildcat BBS software (or any other one). Give your site a hi-style lo-fi look.

    I'd love to see any improvements you make to the site, so that you have some kind of content there.

I dont see it as spam as he is showing off his creativity and not trying to sell you a website design.. sure it is a horrible UI.. so freaken what.. IT is a concept.. I dont see all the naysayyers with there versions of this..
    AND DOS died so that idiots could finally own and somewhat understand computers. They didnt kill it so that smart people could have a nice pretty interface.

  • sheldonwilson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Just the other day, I flipped on my 80386 for no other reason than I was nostalgic. I must be a freak, because I really like DOS. Does anybody here remember when dosshell was the latest thing? Love me some bananas.

    This dos-esque site looks cool, but for an experienced dos user, it's lacking quite a bit. Don't tell me that dir/w/p is a bad command! It would have been cooler if the author had put the different sections of the site into folders. For example:

    C:>dir/p

    10/29/2005 Main

    C:>cd main
    C:Main>

    etc. Give us a bit of a challenge. Show that you put a lot of time into it. I do believe that the author probably spent a lot of time on the design of his dos-style site, but it comes off more like a simple facade.

    Sidenote: I love the BASIC reference: 20 GOTO 10 I used to love sending all my junior high computers into loops.

I really don't think this was a good use of time when you compare it to the web based KDE desktop we saw a couple of days ago. Besides, if you are going to do a shell on the Internet, why DOS??? (BBS nightmares are imminent..)
