Usability is a Conversation
skelliewag.org — Making your site more usable is really the art of making it easy for visitors to do what you want them to do. Whether that ’s coming to grips with what your site is about, commenting, subscribing, contacting you or buying your product, usability gets results.

- badwithcomputer, on 12/09/2007, -5/+9kevin rose might want to take a few pointers.
- InsideLine, on 12/09/2007, -0/+15Great article, except for the terribly repetitious pictures of the strange woman.
- mojaam, on 12/09/2007, -0/+5Yep, not very useful using the same pictures over and over again like a chat conversation except worst because they are a lot bigger than avatars. Could have gone with out them really, makes it easier to read.
- tanlaan, on 12/09/2007, -3/+0It would have been cool if it WAS a chat conversation *with chat box 'n all*.

- madskjaer, on 12/09/2007, -2/+1Dugg for the blog being Skelliewag. One of my favorite blogs out there.
- tanlaan, on 12/09/2007, -1/+0Very good article, has a nice appeal to it. :3
- robphillips, on 12/09/2007, -0/+4I'm the only one that thinks an article which questions site usability, does not give any sort of real information? This just says that you should make your site more usable. I wasted time with a completely non-usable article.
- tybris, on 12/09/2007, -0/+3What kind of ridiculous nonsense is this? Any site that requires that many words to explain how to use it is clearly not very usable.
- djay, on 12/09/2007, -2/+1Very nice article. I also like the blog design very much.
"conversation" is not always feasible, while simplicity is. - andywirtanen, on 12/09/2007, -0/+1I'm not sure if conversation as a usability method really adds a lot of value. I think that the same thing is accomplished with cognitive walkthroughs, use cases, scenarios (w/personas), and storyboards (not to mention all of the different kinds of observations you could do). But, I guess if you find conversations easier and more natural, then so be it... at least you are thinking about your users!
- jkoke, on 12/09/2007, -0/+6Usability is NOT "making it easy for your visitors to do what you want them to do" -- that's manipulation, and I think most visitors don't like being manipulated. Usability is making it easy for visitors to find the information THEY need.
- kestrel1989, on 12/09/2007, -3/+1This is making the assumption that the visitor can read and is willing to take the time to read. Sadly enough this seems to be less and less.
- ypee200, on 12/09/2007, -0/+0Good article. Usability is ever more important in the Web 2.0 world where web applications are being used by more and more people who are not IT-savvy. Here's a nice article that specifically talks about this subject: http://sketharaman.com/blog/?p=22
