- ByronT, on 03/31/2009, -10/+36Shut the ***** up about Twitter for a second.
- blindhammer, on 03/31/2009, -0/+22I think it means they hired another employee.
- inactive, on 03/31/2009, -1/+12is that the same guy who quit google because they were fussing over 3 or 4 pixel margins?
- HigherLogic, on 03/31/2009, -0/+10RT @Wuss @ByronT totally agree
- fenixconnektion, on 03/31/2009, -2/+11if they hired google's visual design leader, what does this spell for Twitter?
stark white backgrounds, black and blue text, sparse use of color for menu elements? - Wuss, on 03/31/2009, -0/+8@ByronT totally agree
- diulei, on 03/31/2009, -4/+11Uh, Google and visual design? Not two things I necessarily think of in the same sentence.
- shakabrah, on 03/31/2009, -1/+7...and Google lost one.
- ebolaworld, on 03/31/2009, -1/+6Twitter is so 2009.
- godzillaWax, on 03/31/2009, -0/+4Why would they hire a google designer? Google has almost no consistent design across any of its properties. Christ, even their logo looks like a relic from a 80s childrens show with a later-to-be-arrested-as-a-pedophile host.
- inchrnt, on 03/31/2009, -2/+6it means the twitter hype machine hums on another day
- lnxfi, on 03/31/2009, -3/+7thank you.
- blindhammer, on 03/31/2009, -0/+3You are very wise.
- Barackalypse, on 03/31/2009, -0/+2I know what it doesn't mean, they are still no closer to coming up with an actual revenue model.
- voyetra8, on 03/31/2009, -0/+2Uhhh, have you seen his portfolio? It's hardly "extreme talent."
- arizona01, on 03/31/2009, -3/+5Why would I give a *****? If you make a good product I will use it regardless of who designs it. Is every google employee now a rockstar?
- dhp1080, on 03/31/2009, -2/+4I'm excited to see what Douglas Bowman will bring to Twitter. While he may just be a Google superstar, he has some extreme talent for design. I know many people want to see Twitter go south, but I fear it's a trend that isn't going away too quickly.
- LilRabbitFooFoo, on 03/31/2009, -0/+2No one doing DESIGN for Google is even modestly talented...
- HigherLogic, on 03/31/2009, -0/+2"Making the simple complicated is commonplace; making the complicated simple, awesomely simple, that's creativity." —Charles Mingus
"The ability to simplify means to eliminate the unnecessary so that the necessary may speak." —Hans Hofmann
"Truly elegant design incorporates top-notch functionality into a simple, uncluttered form." —David Lewis - inactive, on 03/31/2009, -0/+2Making designer poop now
- falafelkiosken, on 03/31/2009, -0/+1learn what the word "design" means, you can design everything from physical products to systems
- akcom, on 03/31/2009, -2/+3Is this the same "hot micropublishing service" that still doesn't have a business model? Wake me up when they do something note worthy, like make money.
- Wuss, on 03/31/2009, -2/+3I mean, i know Google and Twitter are huge names in the game right now... but at the core, can a visual designer REALLY brag about the substance of his/her portfolio w/Google design, then moving on to Twitter, where sentences (incomplete and sometimes incoherent) stack?
Seems like kind of the olden dot com days where people were recruited and paid insane salaries because they were previously recruited and paid insane salaries, because their resume said "was recruited and paid insane salary". - LilRabbitFooFoo, on 03/31/2009, -0/+1Hooray, Twitter is about to look like it was designed in visual basic back in the 90's! 8P
- boozedrinker, on 03/31/2009, -2/+3"Google's former visual design leader" - Man, that with Google's simplicity, this guy has to have it easy.....
"SUUREE YEAH, sounds good. We'll keep the same logo, and just go with blue text on white. Maybe add some black text too." - inactive, on 03/31/2009, -0/+1They coupled with OnStar to become a service so irrelevant that they can name their product "buy this crap, GM" and GM will still buy it.
- BenRT, on 04/01/2009, -0/+1Funnily enough, yes it is.
- LilRabbitFooFoo, on 03/31/2009, -0/+1I saw his portfolio. He's no superstar.
- brundlefly76, on 04/01/2009, -0/+1it means they will go from lameass stock illustration templates to just white pages with forms and tables.
- JYoungest1, on 03/31/2009, -0/+1Thats why he left.
- Kali92, on 04/01/2009, -0/+0So does that means twitter will now get a face lift?, for better conversions or joining in the conversation?
http://digg.com/educational/West_Coast_Vinyl - joelnewcomer, on 04/01/2009, -0/+0yeah, I didn't think Google HAD a visual designer!
- punkcat, on 03/31/2009, -7/+7means it will get clunkier looking. possibly include some bad drawings/icons.
- sed8ed, on 04/01/2009, -0/+0Spells more like TWIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITTER
- ae92, on 03/31/2009, -1/+1To all the people making cracks about Google not needing a designer, Doug Bowman primarily worked on their web apps which are pretty sophisticated. I believe they hired him on after he contracted on Google Calendar (he had a blog posting about it ages ago at stopdesign.com).
- gerlando, on 03/31/2009, -2/+1Wow, there are some ignorant comments in here. Doug's a talented designer who's skills weren't being used at Google. He was a "superstar" in design and standards compliant web design BEFORE Google and that's why they recruited him.
- coudron, on 03/31/2009, -2/+1His blog post about his first day @twitter
http://stopdesign.com/archive/2009/03/31/hello-twi ... - diggduggDOOM, on 03/31/2009, -11/+8Buried for Twitter.
- thewonster, on 03/31/2009, -6/+2I hope this Twitter fad that the news has bastardized really quickly goes away just as quickly. It's stupid and worse websites have been doing better for years.
http://www.google.com/trends?q=twitter - lnxfi, on 03/31/2009, -9/+4google has a designer? I thought they just had a white screen with a multi colored word.
Maybe google is playing a joke on them
