- GawtMilk, on 10/12/2007, -11/+123So my handjobs are pretty cheap, right, but my customers always just...oh. Web design. I see, nevermind.
- loconet, on 10/12/2007, -3/+112I thought the description said "useful" article.
- chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -1/+98...and don't care.

btw signs when you ask too much : unemployement like me :'( - Kyrgizion, on 10/12/2007, -5/+77Wear a paper bag over your boots in a toilet stall so people don't freak out when they see two pairs of shoes there.
- snoonan77, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7111. Sometimes they pay your invoices twice by accident.
- cptn_cardboard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6112. Your invoices are payed with "a little extra for the trouble."
- uppedbyhiggins, on 10/12/2007, -1/+47Whatever the cost was, he was paid way too much to write that.
- kiloWatt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+43This is obviously written by a "freelance" comedy writer.
- derleiermann, on 10/12/2007, -9/+42I'm a freelancer and I didn't find the useful anywhere.
The article is funny though! - tonich03, on 10/12/2007, -20/+44This was supposed to be funny? It was stupid.
- kalleanka, on 10/12/2007, -4/+26Useless comment.
- h0dg3s, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22It says 2 minute noodles, slapnuts. Do you just read every other word?
- steviebaby, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23Those Nike trainers you're wearing didn't make themselves y'know
- burke, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20I honestly don't even know where to start on that one.
- positron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16So how is the escort business treating you these days?

- Churnd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Back when I was a university tech, I also did freelance after hours work for Profs who needed it, most of it in their own home. I charged way less than the nearest competitor, from what I saw, so that list is familiar. However, I was ok with this because I needed the extra dough and it wasn't my full time job.
- creoderiot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12You avoid potential customers because of "the hassle"
- dezmo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13lol
- TheYellowMole, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13My name’s Little Cletus and I’m here to tell you a few things about child labor laws, ok? They’re silly and outdated. Why back in the 30s, children as young as five could work as they pleased; young children could work in textile factories and iron smelts. Yippee! Hurray!
- UNL1M1T3D, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11I didn't know that was an option!
- thealliedhacker, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15You keep running out of supply (WII)
- nzknzknzk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9haha slapnuts, I'm gonna use that now
- LLamaStar, on 10/12/2007, -6/+15useless article.

Ever - Sixcolors, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Depends on the 12-year old. Now back to work, or I'll burn your feet!
- ScionAltera, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8@fkr3
Exactly. Obviously you've never done freelance work or purchased a CD. - GerryBot, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Woo-hoo! Why is it articles like this come along just whe I'm thinking the same thing?
- PhoneGuy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Not sure why there are so many whiners on this thread, but those are more true that I like to remember.
I have been there, and you start off charging less because you want the jobs and figure you are freelancing so it is not fair to charge the same as the big guys. Well you get swamped with work, and untimately you are doing a better job than the faceless zombies that the big companies are sending out.
Save yourself the trouble, charge the average of three competitors less 10 percent - you are still cheaper and you will actually make it worth while for you and your customers. - xTRUMANx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Olsen twins started work as young as a few weeks old...
- TehSwat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Oh, I thought it was going to be a serious one, ha.
Good old burger flippin jobs :D - UNL1M1T3D, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I tried to understand what you just did, I really did.
- rwallen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I don't know why were dugg down bking, after reading the submitted article your comment seems spot on.
- kaelyiesta, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5thats why it IS funny. Just think of the people who actually need this advice nodding their heads in wonder thinking 'aaah yes! now I get it!'
- flippinjeremy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"buried has gay"

..
.......wow. - dansued, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@d3c0yn4m3l355
..what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul. - glialisback, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you absoultely hate your client(s)...you probably charged too little.
- Stochio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@gr3yn3t:
"By undercharging for any work (computer or other) you are a) Selling yourself short, and b) Selling other people (who need to make a living) short too."
What you are implying is collusion. Worst case, this is highly illegal. Best case, you'll get screwed because there is a huge incentive to cheat in any collusion arrangement.
You can't charge more in pursuit of getting everyone in your industry to magically charge more. Free markets don't work that way. - livestradamus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1digg me up
- jaredly, on 12/02/2007, -0/+1Freelance Switch is a great site. I have been visiting it alot since I started my own business http://jareddesign.com
- Tweekster, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Basically whatever you think is "fair" triple that.
If you charge what is considered "fair" you wont even be taken seriously. - UNL1M1T3D, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3@ Kallenka
If I could digg you five times I would for that comment. - bsmeteronhigh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Real #1: You found the gig on Craigslist and think it rocks!
- kiwimonk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3All of the above very true ;)
I get calls from india on a daily basis :p - psykiv, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I seriously did laugh out loud while reading this "article"
Thanks for the laugh.
I am guilty of #4. I think its more of a trust thing than a I charge too little thing though. Very rarely do I have someone request an estimate before I start working. I guess I should charge more?
Depending on what exactly the job was, #6 may not be a bad thing.
I'd like to add #13. When they actually say "thats it?" and mean it.
Happened to me once. - AgentAce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This sounds more like a Letterman Top 10 than something serious.
- Darkyuubi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2LMFAO @ last point. That was awesome.
- windhawk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1You get what you pay for.
Fortunately, I get more than a buck-a-word.
Unfortunately, I only get one or two columns a month at that rate. - icanfreelance, on 08/04/2008, -0/+0FreelanceSwitch is a very helpful site and is one of the few freelance sites that are actually real and down to earth about freelancing online. We here at http://www.icanfreelance.com highly recommend this site to anyone freelancing online.
