This building looks like a... schlong - Hickeroar, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19The writer of this article is OBSESSED with drugs. Just because it's weird architecture doesnt mean the architect or the visitor has to do drugs or did drugs. :-)
- onishenko, on 10/12/2007, -6/+22Some interesting buildings, but by no means a top 10. It's just a collection of 10 buildings the author found to be 'unusual'. (Notice his love for buildings that seems flipped or broken in some way)
Dancing House is a Frank Gehry design, so it's expected to be out of the ordinary. There are many websites and forums out there that discuss urban architecture that would put this to shame. If you are interested, http://www.emporis.com has a huge database of buildings worldwide. http://www.skyscraperpage.com is a great place to discuss this kind of stuff. - kokorhekkus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13This could very well been on that list (maybe mostly because the list seems a little bit haphazard)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turning_Torso - TheWorm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11These are cool. But what about the broken angel house from Block Party?
Built from scratch. http://cyber.law.harvard.edu/blogs/static/calebcrain/brokangeast.jpg - rcran, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Why does the author keep refering to drugs every other sentance?
- saudukargeneral, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9The Wilson Hall is the center of FermiLab in Aurora, IL. Its the home of US's largest particle accelerator. When everything is running, it uses more electricity than all of Chicago and its suburbs.
- sexyjill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Habitat '67 in Montreal is one of my favorites
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Habitat_67 - Eric.S.Smith, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7That list is biased toward buildings that look like they're falling apart or melting, I notice. There is one on the list that's raised on a column, but that's not as strange as this building in Toronto:
http://www.ocad.on.ca/about/campus/overview.htm
http://www.cbc.ca/ideas/features/building_sky/
http://eek.ca/ess/ocad.html - Ninjab3ar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9This list obviously shows that the author made absolutely no research, he doesn't even bother to get the names of the architects who made it (for example, calling Frank Ghery "a famous architect from California")
I'm surprised that he even missed buildings such as the Jewish Museum Berlin by Daniel Libeskind: http://www.aliciapatterson.org/APF2001/Klein/Klein18.jpg
Or the proposed expansion to the Royal Ontario Museum (Same architect): http://www.livewithculture.ca/var/livewithculture/storage/images/media/rom_daytime/180108-2-eng-GB/rom_daytime.jpg - oneiroi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@TheWorn
I'd consider Broken Angel disqualified in it's current state:

http://www.iaacat.com/events_img/thumbs/71326c1f69c64488e0ecfcc391152dee.jpg
and crazy apartment buildings:

http://www.benbest.com/travel/gaudi.jpg - gambl0r, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6There is no way that one of the Ripley's Museums is one of the most photographed building in the world. There is one of them at every major tourist city in the US. Also, this list sucks.
- rcran, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5That thing really is an eyesore. And I never got the smashed guitar thing. A year or so before it was built, I saw a model of it in a glass case. The model looked more like a smashed guitar than the real thing.
The guitar pilar is cool though. Damn, - saska, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4If you think EMP is ugly from the ground, you should go see it from the air. It looks like a Gundam took a ***** in the middle of downtown.
- shakin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I think the Ripley's in Niagara Falls is more interesting.
http://www.infoniagara.com/attractions/ripleys/images/replys_outside.jpg - shakin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4How are they weird?
This is weird: http://people.cohums.ohio-state.edu/macpherson10/Toronto%201.jpg - doig007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Don't forget the Sponge!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_MIT_undergraduate_dormitories#Simmons_Hall
(which was supposed to have the structural stresses color-coded in the window surrounds) - typo180, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I was surprised to see Wilson Hall. I've been going there since I was little and have gotten used to it, but it is quite a sight - inside and out.
- sysadmn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Wow! Makes the basket building look normal:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ryugyong_Hotel - Brandoskey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The Wilson Hall is actually part of Fermi Lab here in Batavia Illinois, been there many times, lots of cool stuff out there, even a bison heard, a praire and of course the particle accelerator where they smash atoms together.
- Rikushix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'd love to visit that layered hotel. Or the triangle one.
- Kale, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I just logged on to post that the building is it Gatlinburg, Tennessee, if I'm not mistaken.
- technoextreme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Just as a side note this building is the Disney Hall designed by Frank Gehry. They sandblasted the building so it had a matt finish instead of glossy.
- Cameleopard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"*Yawn* Daniel Libeskind totally owns him."
Bleh, non-descript variations on the cube. - funkydude101, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6I for one welcome our robotic building overlord.
- jaxshores, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Definitely interesting, although I've seen this page before on Digg. My favorite is the dancing house, which I got to see in Prague last summer. Dugg, even though it's old.
- raabco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Very cool that I actually recognise one of those buildings from my few worldwide travels. I managed to enjoy the view of the Hotel Sofitel from across a urban pond in which young couples paddle boated around in their swan boats =)
http://www.myfilestash.com/userfiles/raab/pics/2004%2004-10%20090.jpg
Here's some bonus buildings all somewhat nearby in Tokyo...

And if you didn't think there was enough of a difference between how people act in Japan and America, I present a goldfish tank located in the subway:

It's not broken, nor are the supplies are not pilfered... An amazing culture in Japan, and certainly in more ways than just that example. - karn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I've always liked this one
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orange_County_Government_Center
A lot of people who live in the area hate it though. Even the inside is sorta cool looking, - ApolloImBurning, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2lol @ "make sure you free your weed before coming"
- wvannus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@ saud:
Don't worry. Half the early applicants that get deferred get accepted. Very few early appers get in. - wvannus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2One of the computer science classes in there has a crooked window. That was just too much for me. Otherwise, it's a great building. It's got some plumbing for liquid nitrogen in some of the labs. How can that be crap?
- SpaceBass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I have to drive past this thing every day
http://www.agilitynut.com/p/foilbank.jpg
the top floor is supposedly the longest run of uninterrupted aluminum in the world. - dragonflight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I've actually worked in Wilson Hall. Its surroundings are considerably more plush now, and the view from the top floor (where I worked) can see the Sears Tower on a good day, and lucious green around it most days.
Also has a great cafeteria, and the workspace is like none other
Should also mention its at Fermi Lab, IL so you can see the particle accelerator (biggest until CERN goes live in 08). Quite an interesting campus! - raabco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Sigh...
It's far too early for me to be posting here...
That last bit should read like this:
"It's not broken, nor are the copious fish supplies pilfered... An amazing culture is to be found in Japan, and certainly in more ways than just these examples."
Now I must retire, good day to you all. - ttfadia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I love the Ellicot Complex at the University at Buffalo...they're just stunning.
http://buffalo.edu/buildings/building?id=ellicott&photo=photos/ellicott3-99063008.jpg - saska, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This list is useless without GaudÃ.
- outbreakofevil, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I've been to the Wonder Works place, except it was in Tennessee. It has a very strange look inside, as well. The building is flipped upside down in the entrance too, with a staircase and a marble floor appearing on the ceiling. Very interesting.
- thescimitar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Another New York building that deserves some mention, even though it's no longer strange and bizarre by modern design standards, is the Flatiron building. Even today, whenever I'm in that part of town, I'm still awed by it.
- technoextreme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This story reminds me of an opera house that was built in California. I don'tremember the name but the building is easily recognizable with curved metal walls. Unfortunately, no one though of the fact that they were building giant mirros. Apartments were becoming unbearably hot, orange pylons were melting, and drivers were being blinded. Really quite an interesting building.
- herschelaz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i was surprised not to see any gaudi on there
- LiveFastDieOld, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Possibly because he wrote this while on them.
"As of now, the unique building has been destroyed."
As of now? But in the future, it might not be? - burgerboy06, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2http://i.pbase.com/u9/qleap/upload/1653279.DCP_0022R.jpg
- streetstealth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I hope the author's native language isn't English, because if it is... Someone's educational system has failed. Constant misuse of punctuation, obvious malaprops, poor sentence structure; forget about spelling...
Still some cool (and some fabulously ugly) buildings, though. Just poor commentary. - siestaguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2There is another Wonder Works on International Drive in Orlando.
- Soup4Brains, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dallas City Hall has a pretty crazy design. I'm a little surprised nobody has mentioned it yet.
