    organic modeling/texturing/redering is 100 times harder.

  • adampolselli, on 01/12/2009, -1/+79Agreed. In general, the whole thing is too perfect. The used glass (the one with the ice cube and thin layer of yellow liquid at the bottom) is too clean. There should be smudges, dust, fingerprints, lip marks... something. Funny how perfection is this image's imperfection. Other than that, though, great work.

  • xkostolny, on 01/12/2009, -3/+70This is a pretty simple image, so you're right that it wouldn't take long to set up—for somebody fairly experienced. A complete amateur would have a pretty rough time getting the materials and lighting looking decent, though; there's much, much more to renderings like this than simply pressing a few buttons and letting the computer do all the work.

For instance, car company spends tens of thousands of currency units on an ad campaign, but they want to run it in countries with both left-hand driving and right-hand driving. What do they do? Chose a number plate carefully with letters that are readable in the mirror and then just mirror image the entire advert, dub on new voiceover and incredibly smallprint captions, and the job's a good one.

    That's why most number plates on car adverts use the letters and numbers 1, 0, 8, U, V, M, O, W, T, H, X and A

    All they have to do is be careful what else is in camera shot.
