- vulcanius, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19We're going to pretend you were joking...
- dolemite5005, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19Ahhhh more cars I'll never be able to afford.
- shifty2, on 10/12/2007, -8/+24E30 M3 is still the best looking one!
- bobcrotch, on 10/12/2007, -6/+20Please die in a glue fire for saying it 'reminds you of a pontiac'
..... - arepb, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18The other one has crappy photos. This one seems to have better information and pictures. Isn't that worth more?
- yourmightyruler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Because they're both the hotrod versions of their midrange series.
RS4=Audi A4 with a rocket.
M3=325i with a rocket.
And the A4 and 330xi are in competition with each other. - Mootabolife, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Who needs a V-6 when you can have a lighter V-8 with 400hp?
- vulcanius, on 10/12/2007, -6/+15Dugg down... for more reasons than I can count.
- GeneralAntilles, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14No kidding. It's too bad they got rid of the straight-6, too. One of the most elegant and beautiful engines ever made.
- halbe, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10"Expect the production model to appear later this year in Frankfurt. Now, make way for the Audi RS4 shootout."
M3 = 2 doors
RS4 = 4 doors
How can they really compare? - demps, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7@ AndrewD... You must have never seen an Aston Martin Vanquish before.
- ThinkBox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Its a link on the internet - so it aint live no more, and It sure as hell isn't in person. These titles crack me up!
- elroy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Well, the E30 M3 is a 4-cyl... But I do agree, it's sad to see the ///M inline 6 being phased out. You can still get it in the M roadster & coupe, but that's it.
E30 M3 is a cool car but I'd rather take a regular E30 and swap a bigger engine in (euro S52) -- an S54 would be damn near impossible, because it can't be converted to OBD1, would likely rip damage the chasis without incredible reinforcements, and you'd still be limited by the semi-trailing-arm rear-end.
For now I have a 1991 325i (E30) and it's a great car, but my dream car is still the E34 M5. Nothing beats the sound of the S38 at wide open throttle! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Silver is easy on the eye, easy to clean and stay looking clean longer than other colors, and at a car show it can show off the viacle line better than other darker or brighter colors.
- demps, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@johnny... Agreed. I've owned two Audi's in the past (2000 S4 and 2004 S4), and they were in the shop at least twice a month. They were great fun to drive, but after dealing with a really poor maintenance department (Tom Wood Audi in Indianapolis, IN... they are HORRIBLE), I decided to make the switch to BMW and I wish I made it sooner.
- djpm05, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7I agree, the E30 M3 is my favorite M3. everything after E46 was too bangelized. I would however put an S54 into an E30 M3 and rock that all day long.
- demps, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5There's no such thing as a car with too much power.
- demps, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4That is correct, BMW has every intention of making a 4-door version of the M3. There have been a couple of test mules spotted in Germany and out in California.
- Lorenz123, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6As always when it comes to BMW, the older generation is better looking. I think I will learn to like the new m3 too.
- Number23, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Count me as some who love the smaller, 4cyl, IMSA fender flared M3s best. With each iteration of a car they seem to get bigger and heavier. You can blame some (but not all ) of it on increased safety regs.
But anyone who’s done a track day will tell you that a light car really is a joy to hustle through the corners. - SwabTheDeck, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6It looks like the hood bulge is back and more prominent than ever. I'm a little distressed that the side gills aren't the billet style from the previous generation. They're more like scoops instead of gills. I'm glad that Chris Bangle didn't manage to ruin the deck lids on the 3-series coupes like he did for most of the rest of the product line. I have mixed feelings about swapping the straight-6 for a V-8. Couldn't they have compromised with straight-8? It even rhymes! Carbon fiber hood? Nice.
- redfan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I'd heard they were making a sedan version of this M3. Not a big fan of coupes personally... hence the preference for the RS4.
- Rickard, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I'm betting the RS4 still kicks the M3's ass.
osiris24x: Well, a four door configuration generally is a bit heavier than a two door, so it can indeed affect performance. - sleepwalkers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3A car powered by a tomato juice drink? ***** E85, this is the way to go!

You're free to rice it up after you purchase it. The rest of us like the stock sleeper look. - DoubtfulSalmon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Live in person"??? Those new V8 powered BMW M3's hate it when you anthropomorphise them.
- litkaj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Car and Driver reported that there will also be "a convertible with a carbon-fiber retractable hardtop, a sedan, a wagon, and a lightweight coupe. The latter two probably won’t be sold in the U.S., but we haven’t given up hope yet."
http://www.caranddriver.com/autoshows/12525/2008-bmw-m3-concept-official-photos-info.html - neophytoplasm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Cripes, all the Bangle/New-BMW-design haters out there just need to get over it. Older styled BMW's aged 10-15 years the day that BMW's updated style came out. If you like the older style, then fine, stay with that car or buy used from now on. But modern style progresses, even if yours doesn't. If you don't like it, don't buy it. BMW obviously isn't hurting without you. Their sales have consistently gone up with each new styled model they introduce. This new M3 looks amazing and is much more interesting to look at than the RS4 in my opinion. No one can expect BMW's design department to just freeze at whatever point in time you fixated on.
- cawpin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@bobcrotch - You apparently aren't actually looking at the car. It looks like a Pontiac Grand Prix in the front quartering shot. This is not a bad thing, mind you.
- demps, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5You obviously have never owned nor driven a BMW before. The pure enjoyment of driving these machines heavily outweighs any 'reliability issues' they may have (I have had little to none). They truly are the Ultimate Driving Machine.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@mootabolife: It wasn't a V6. It was a straight six or an inline 6. I6 engines are smooth and perfectly balanced and has very good torque characteristics.
http://www.autozine.org/technical_school/engine/smooth3.htm#Inline-6 - ryguy9090, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4As far as the looks, I think it's pretty good - not perfect, but pretty damn good.
I'm actually a bigger fan of the E46 design myself... - osiris24x, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5As much as I hate to agree, he's right about it looking like a Pontiac. Reason is, Pontiac stole BMW's "kidney grilles" a long time ago, and has been copying them ever since. As a result, many Pontiacs look like BMWs that are just a few chromosomes short...
- sprash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1In Germany we have no tempo limits on "Autobahn" (Highways). I once drove 300 km/h (185 mph) in a BMW... that was a blast.
- Y0tsuya, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Sour grapes. When you can afford one and choose not to buy it, then we'll listen.
- DownFlipper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I like the design of my 04 drop top better.

Got this car just a week ago, its like a drug, I'm addicted to driving it, soon as I get home from hours of driving, only thing I can think about is getting back in it ;p - theuber1337, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I don't buy cars made after 1985. Cars from the 60's and 70's were art.
- nbcivic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1scoops and yea true true, we should all drive edges since they're so um, straight right?
- aantix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2V-8 powered? Wow, a car that runs on vegetable juice. That is a beautiful concept.
- johnny23, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3He's obviously never owned an audi either. Very trendy cars of late, but it's no secret that they spend most of their time in the shop, not on the road.
- MrWinna, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This car is simply amazzzaaazzing.

The previous two generations of M3 were straight-6, and the one before that a straight-4. The straight-8 thing was meant to be a joke because you'd need a ridiculously long engine compartment to fit something like that in. V configurations save longitudal space in the engine compartment, but since the pistons fire at obscure angles, it causes vibration which = lower performance per displacement as well as noise. However, you have the added benefit of more cylinders, which nets more performance. But in general, a straight-6 will outperform a similarly configured V-6 substantially. - brufleth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1From what I've read it was a straight 6, not a V6. A straight 6 doesn't suffer from some of the issues you run into with a V configuration. How big a difference those issues make? I do not know.
- fyre2012, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Anyone else think that this thing ran on some sort of tomato-vegetable concoction at first?
- noamchomskeet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I feel you man, I got a new white convertible myself, and can't wait to drive it. Only thing is I fly out of the state for 4 days of the week, and also own a 650i, so time to drive the M is very short and limited, but oh so sweet.
- weiran, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1screamokid: 318is with M kit... your classic BMW prick.

I love BMW! - 13B1303, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The homologation E30 M3 was built to compete in FIA-GT. It was an out of the box race car.
You can't compare a rule bender of a production car to that the new M3.
The E30 M3 Special was not just for looks it was to get those modifications into racing "leagally"
All the -stuff- on the new M3 is just that stuff. - screamokid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1you could just grab a e46 m3 enigine and put it inside a 325i's body and you got a m3 sadan, tada!
