- scottsolo, on 06/18/2009, -24/+742It looks exactly the same as the current one to me. ha.
- shahruz84, on 06/18/2009, -4/+626For a side-by-side comparison, just open these two in diff tabs and switch back and forth.
Old: http://img361.imageshack.us/img361/9092/firefoxjp7 ...
new: http://people.mozilla.com/~faaborg/files/shiretoko ... - petedee, on 06/18/2009, -3/+161Thanks for that, it definatly is a more noticable change when you put them side by side.
I actually quite like the new one, shame the 16x16 shadowed one is just a mess of pixels :| - faaborg, on 06/18/2009, -5/+138Some more detailed credits: the icon was created by Anthony Piraino at the Iconfactory, and the design was influenced by conceptual sketches and artwork from Jon Hicks and Stephen Horlander, as well as creative direction from Alex Faaborg, John Slater, Mike Beltzner, Asa Dotzler and Sean Martell. We also received feedback and guidance from the original Mozilla visual identity of Daniel Burka, Stephen DesRoches, and Steven Garrity, and of course the broader Mozilla community.
Overall the icon is mostly a conservative update, focusing primarily on changes to dimensionality and contrast in texture to modernize and evolve the design. When you compare it to how you picture the Firefox icon in your mind it appears mostly the same (which helps Firefox maintain a strong visual identity), but there are many subtle differences when you directly compare it to the old icon. - snagglefoof, on 06/18/2009, -8/+135I'd like to see side by side comparison...

old on the left, new on the right - anexanhume, on 06/18/2009, -3/+74It's ok, I've seen the place where they buried Jimmy Hoffa's body. However, I too will provide no pictures as proof. Good day.
- weeFred, on 06/19/2009, -1/+65I'm hoping that was sarcasm! How can you even begin to compare Magnum to Blue Steel. Shame on you.
- faaborg, on 06/18/2009, -0/+58That would be one of the non-recognizable and generic continents so as not to offend various other parts of the planet through geographic preference (the icon itself does not yet support geolocation)
- inactive, on 06/19/2009, -0/+47The new icon reflects the effects of global warming.
- Destinyx3, on 06/18/2009, -0/+40It looks very similar, but it does look slightly more sleeker.
- ilgaz, on 06/19/2009, -1/+37Which is a good thing. There is no reason to change a logo which everyone knows/familiar with.
- m3arvk, on 06/19/2009, -0/+35So don't put it on the front page of Digg while calling it new, right?
- megaton, on 06/19/2009, -4/+39...and certainly justify having 11 people involved in this critical update.
- Immune, on 06/18/2009, -0/+34I said good day!
- CheeseburgerBro, on 06/18/2009, -0/+33The map is clearly centered on Latveria, sir.
You seem an ignorant cuss -- perhaps unable to even decipher the border of Rohan from Narnia, or the sort of lout who mistakes Fantasica for Oz if supplied with an unlabeled globe. Have you never seen the Earths, man? - skylicious, on 06/18/2009, -13/+45If you showed me this without putting the old one besides it, I would say nothing's changed. Seriously, it's the same ***** with MINOR (REALLY MINOR) changes.
- megaton, on 06/19/2009, -7/+36I presume only people who use Firefox care what a new Firefox icon looks like...
- CrazySpaniard, on 06/18/2009, -1/+28here's a side by side comparison (old on the left, new on the right)
http://imgur.com/UjxXW.png - saucercrab, on 06/18/2009, -5/+31w t f.
It's almost identical when viewed as an actual icon. This is digg worthy? - wukillabee, on 06/18/2009, -17/+40its ok, ive seen some better ones on deviantart
- schnikies79, on 06/18/2009, -9/+32It looks the same?
- inactive, on 06/19/2009, -2/+22http://www.d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y.com/
- TheSkinsFactory, on 06/19/2009, -1/+21They added some more detail. I'd call this a refresh. Nothing more.. I'm still trying to figure what planet that fox is wrapped around because it sure isn't planet Earth. This is a big snore...
- MrCoke, on 06/19/2009, -0/+18WHAT IS THIS A SCHOOL FOR ANTS???? THIS HAS TO BE AT LEAST...... 3 TIMES THIS SIZE!!!
- AndersenWatcher, on 06/18/2009, -5/+23skipping the apostrophe and dropping an 'e' is also not cool and nonconformist.
- Silentnite85, on 06/19/2009, -2/+19Does this affect my AOL icon?
/s - cosmicr, on 06/19/2009, -1/+18I co-chaired the committee that reviewed the recommendation to revise the color of the book that regulation is in! We kept it gray!
- TyIzaeL, on 06/19/2009, -1/+17Animated PNG of the two images:
http://files.getdropbox.com/u/40722/ff-icons-anim. ... - HAL90000, on 06/19/2009, -7/+23I guess none of you have seen Zoolander. Every one of his new looks are the same.
- Silentnite85, on 06/19/2009, -1/+17A+++ Comment, Will Digg Down Again!
- stagnate, on 06/18/2009, -1/+17Its Firefox.
- diggB, on 06/18/2009, -28/+43I actually like the old one more for it's simpler design.
- bobartig, on 06/18/2009, -3/+18Makes no difference to me, since I rarely see the icon at sizes beyond 32x32, and only to glance down at which icon to click on in my dock.
- sigmaman2, on 06/19/2009, -0/+15Is there any significance to the change in the planet's "land masses" in the background?
- elnerdo, on 06/19/2009, -0/+15Why is this even on the front page? Close inspection tells me that they added some tail detail, made the tail slightly shorter, and made the light shining on the globe brighter.
This is easily the least-new-worthy change I've ever seen. - Wuss, on 06/19/2009, -1/+15Firefox should team up with Google and shove pixels around for 10 years and experiment with 400 different shades of blue.
- pseudostatik, on 06/19/2009, -0/+14Animated PNGs, the new GIF
- Zap2, on 06/19/2009, -0/+14those first two are not better...FF eating IE would be a bad logo(why tie yourself to IE?)...and the 2nd one is a lady farting out fire.....
- dsmx, on 06/18/2009, -1/+15He's locked in my basement.
- antc1986, on 06/18/2009, -25/+39This is stupid
- charlesray, on 06/19/2009, -0/+14It's hard to notice the changes in the new icon without directly comparing it with the old one, but the cool thing about making minor changes like this is that if they do it often enough they will never need to do a total overhaul. You probably won't notice the icon changes between every version, but you'll also never think, "Firefox's icon is really outdated."
- blindmonkey, on 06/19/2009, -0/+13How awesome would it be if it did support geolocation tho?
- cygnus2112, on 06/18/2009, -3/+16I was kinda hoping they'd go with this one:
http://img13.yfrog.com/img13/4251/firefoxbooblovin ... - De4our, on 06/19/2009, -0/+13I know, I just saw it.
- crombat, on 06/18/2009, -0/+12I use firefox because it works better, not because I'm trying to be cool.
- tonich03, on 06/18/2009, -4/+16Ok I don't get it, I have this one on Mac right now. Yes, the new one, I can tell the difference.
- Mejogid, on 06/19/2009, -0/+12@megaton
Not all of the above necessarily spent huge amounts of time on the icon, and when you're dealing with something as important as your brand identity it's hardly sensible to shove some intern on it.
@JoeHague
Really, icon design is a very specific field that has no necessary overlap with application design or programming. It's very common to include paid-for design work in open source projects and I think the improvement seen here justifies that effort. - JHughes1882, on 06/19/2009, -1/+13It's a giant fox that's surrounding a blue planet with his big bushy tail, does that indicate 100% realism to you?
Moron. - snagglefoof, on 06/19/2009, -9/+21Not everybody uses Firefox you know.
