- ThePags, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Honestly who uses ask jeeves anyway?
- btipling, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You can move the order of the links around by dragging them, it's pretty cool. And if you press the link it changes the page without reloading.
- Thrashtastic27, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! JEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVESSSS!!!!
- CompACE, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's web 2.0 ish - there - now you're pissed off
- mightymouse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm with the ddrirc.
Also, it looks too plain and red and white. They might as well put a canadian flag on there (woo go canada).
However, it looks clean and runs fast. Basically another evil google twin. - StealthTomato, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Alas, poor Jeeves.
Jeeves was the only good part of that whole site.
I'm officially not making my "once-every-ten-years" visit now. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Looks so hollow and heartless without Jeeves
- manoftheisland, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i like it... sorta following the google simplicity idea. good change though
- asdren, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1best thing they've got is bloglines
- capnjeremy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wonder who they hired to code this page. Embedded CSS! Tables! HTML 4.01 Transitional! I honestly don't see the difficulty in making this page ... modern?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Check this out, in the submit feedback/ask questions part of the site.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v89/brandonone/Jeeves.gif - KayMan2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Don't worrgy, Jeeves is in software mascot heaven along with the Pets.com sock puppet and Clippy.
- deltaechoromeo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Damn! I miss Jeeves. I'm going to go read a P.G. Wodehouse novel now.
- dazhoney, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0first of all Jeeves was doing a "Hammer goes gansta rap" a few short weeks ago, slick flash graphics of Jeeves as a hip dude listening to his ipod and all that, hey, he was a slow and swiss-cheese brained butler from the beginning, so I say good riddance.
Now, ask.com, it is months out of date, and I mean MONTHS. This is unacceptable unless you want to read what your meta tags said before you changed your website last autumn. Lame. - MrHomeValueCom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I LIKE IT... THE WEB 20 LOOK IS HERE TO STAY!
:-p - broknman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wheres the innovation? They do everything every other search company does..uigh!
- RobotCitizen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Actually, I like it. The map is very Googlish, which is good. You can also zoom in/out with the mousewheel, and you can click on the divider to slide it left and expand the map. Simple but useful.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0For years we Asked Jeeves
Now we just Ask Ask
Pretty dumb. - tnwake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I assume everyone who's complaining about all the white space in the background doesn't use Google because of their white background, right?
I'll miss jeeves, without him we never would have had the "Design a new Ask.com mascot" photoshop contest on Fark which yielded the Ask Reeves logo. - Mongoose, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cool. I've never used AskJeeves, but it looks nicer than it used to. +digg
- GloriousNight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I HATE ASKJEEVES AND JEEVES AND ALL OF IT!
=) Anyway, hm. - lego, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Everyone complaining (or simply stating) that Ask is copying Google, what are you talking about? Ask.com's previous homepage looked more like Google's than the new one. If anything, they're moving away from the Google look.
Previous homepage:
http://web.archive.org/web/20050401091959/http://ask.com/ - jakbrud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0another netvibes ripoff, very clean interface though
- Julz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0jeeves was like a father to me... we'll miss you jeeves
- Ace2005, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The Layout is a lot like google -_-
- Gullop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have noticed the askjeeves robot has been crawling my site alot more recently too.
- halophoenix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0type in "jeeves"
- b-dizzle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Jeeves was outsourced. Simple as that.
- tsupersonic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What? People used Ask Jeeves? What the hell were you guys smoking? There was Google, Altavista, Yahoo, MSN, many many more back in the day... that were so much better.
- ToddC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Google could do something similar with a nice, clean sidebar like Ask. I really like the new look. Digg ++
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Just Ask"? nice :-)
- Loie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hey, their Maps is really good! the scroll wheel works to zoom in and out, you can hide the directions sidebar, the map view has a little more detail than Google's.... try it, it's pretty cool
- PH0RCEjeff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Jeeves was my nickname. now he has gone. how crap. i won't ask.
- GeoffANDtonic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Never liked the Jeeves man. Good Clean, usable. I like it.
I'm sticking with Google though for some unfallable reason. - Jammerdelray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0awww the butler jeeves is gone...this sucks
- GreenAlien, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0btw I much prefer Ask's new design to Google's ageing page.
- GreenAlien, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Firefox tip:
to search for something on Ask using Firefox, you can setup a Smart Search as follows: go to ask.com, right-click on the text box and select "Add a keyword for this search" from the context menu. Type eg "Ask" for Name, and "a" for the keyword, and hit OK and you're done.
Then whenever you want to do a quick search in firefox, hit Ctrl+T (new tab) or Ctrl+L (current tab) and enter eg "a whatever" where you'd usually type the URL. Nice 'n' quick. (and yes, I'm sure most of you already knew about Smart Searches, but there's some that don't). I find this much nicer than using the dedicated search box (I've long since removed that clutter from the toolbar). - settsu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0As a graphic designer, I feel the pain of whoever was tasked with the redesign of such a prominent brand.
Hopefully they are highly experienced and thus have developed the tough skin necessary for such an undertaking.
For every person, there is AT LEAST one different opinion on how something looks. - Hardcore41, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0And look they even took off the link to their other products they make, their smilies with sound that are on every website.
- grayapple, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Who the hell used Ask.com anyway?
- JayRod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0When I got off the freeway I think I saw Jeeves holding up a sign that said "Will SEARCH for food" He's not dead, he's retired just trying to make ends meet. Social Security check is not enough.
- jdiggity, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0it's kind of cool, this has been along time coming. I work for ask.com and am pleased with the results, now we just need to work on the index (giggle)
- h3adstr0ng, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0r.i.p. jeeves...
- phpkerouac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0do a search - looks just like google.
- Eldoo77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0No jeeves = No digg.
- Lord_oftheTrons, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Man, and they spent a fortune with all those ***** AskJeeves commercials that were annoying as hell. Those ones with that tool getting a tatoo or whatever. A better everyday search engine. Blah.
- tmcleroy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0poor jeeves, he was a good man
- xLiKx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0just use google. their search engine was never good anyways
