  • dazhoney, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0first of all Jeeves was doing a "Hammer goes gansta rap" a few short weeks ago, slick flash graphics of Jeeves as a hip dude listening to his ipod and all that, hey, he was a slow and swiss-cheese brained butler from the beginning, so I say good riddance.

    Now, ask.com, it is months out of date, and I mean MONTHS. This is unacceptable unless you want to read what your meta tags said before you changed your website last autumn. Lame.

  • RobotCitizen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Actually, I like it. The map is very Googlish, which is good. You can also zoom in/out with the mousewheel, and you can click on the divider to slide it left and expand the map. Simple but useful.

    I'll miss jeeves, without him we never would have had the "Design a new Ask.com mascot" photoshop contest on Fark which yielded the Ask Reeves logo.

  • lego, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Everyone complaining (or simply stating) that Ask is copying Google, what are you talking about? Ask.com's previous homepage looked more like Google's than the new one. If anything, they're moving away from the Google look.

    to search for something on Ask using Firefox, you can setup a Smart Search as follows: go to ask.com, right-click on the text box and select "Add a keyword for this search" from the context menu. Type eg "Ask" for Name, and "a" for the keyword, and hit OK and you're done.

    Then whenever you want to do a quick search in firefox, hit Ctrl+T (new tab) or Ctrl+L (current tab) and enter eg "a whatever" where you'd usually type the URL. Nice 'n' quick. (and yes, I'm sure most of you already knew about Smart Searches, but there's some that don't). I find this much nicer than using the dedicated search box (I've long since removed that clutter from the toolbar).

    Hopefully they are highly experienced and thus have developed the tough skin necessary for such an undertaking.

    For every person, there is AT LEAST one different opinion on how something looks.
