- Dradis, on 12/05/2007, -4/+56"It makes you wonder what the first photograph of the iPhone might be worth in 150 years…"
Comparing the iPhone to the Temple of Jupiter in Athens is really tasteless.- ahoyhoy, on 12/05/2007, -2/+24I know... The Temple of Jupiter doesn't even have Wi-Fi! Seriously now!
- MacDaddyMac530, on 12/05/2007, -6/+2Or visual voicemail
- blueRAP, on 12/05/2007, -4/+51"It makes you wonder what the first photograph of the iPhone might be worth in 150 years…"
No it doesn't. - drunkentoad, on 12/05/2007, -10/+2There were photos on that page?
I was too distracted by the text butting up against the edge of the screen to notice. - neutrascrub, on 12/05/2007, -2/+44i just saved those pictures to my computer for free.

Im rich! - rheaume, on 12/05/2007, -2/+1If only I could get 5$ each for the 40,000 photos I've taken in the last 7 years, id be rich I tell you, RICH!
:p- haydesigner, on 12/05/2007, -0/+2To be fair, $200k no longer really qualifies as "rich" anymore...
- rheaume, on 12/05/2007, -1/+2Check out my bank account sometime, 200k would make a dent in that debt factory :)
- haydesigner, on 12/05/2007, -0/+2To be fair, $200k no longer really qualifies as "rich" anymore...

- andy3109, on 12/05/2007, -2/+6How in the world does "Andreas Gursky’s “99 Cent II Diptych” require any skill at all. It just looks like he stood on a ladder at the 0.99 cent store (whoopee)! I don't think I will ever get "art"
- wildgift, on 12/05/2007, -1/+3Subject matter. Some rich folks LOVE the idea of tons of cheap stuff getting out to the masses, supposedly raising the standard of living, and making someone rich while the masses stay poor. The 99 cent store is fun, but when I've eaten stuff from there, sometimes, I get mild food poisoning.
What I really don't get is why the photograph of a portion of the Marlboro ad... a photograph of a print of a photograph... fetches so much money. Seems like BS to me. - nicepants, on 12/05/2007, -0/+2Agreed. When I clicked on this article I was expecting to see photos that have graced the covers of Time, Newsweek, etc....instead I get a security-camera-style view of a dollar store.

- redxninja, on 12/05/2007, -5/+8A painting I can understand that...but a photograph?...***** stupid.
- mrheyguy, on 12/05/2007, -1/+8Why in the world would a third print of a picture sell for more than the first and second? The owner of the actual photograph should obviously print those things non-stop. The last one will probably sell for a few trillion trillion.
- altf4exits, on 12/05/2007, -3/+0So where's Goatse?
- hulez, on 12/05/2007, -2/+6That is the most expensive thumbnails iv'e ever seen.
- iffypop, on 12/05/2007, -8/+3What about the photo of me kissing your wife
- CaviMike, on 12/05/2007, -2/+21Here's my best photo:
Can't see it? Maybe I should have made it bigger, too. - Saea, on 12/05/2007, -0/+9"The Pond-Moonlight" is wonderful. Seeing one of its prints is truly awe inspiring.
- Calcheesmo, on 12/05/2007, -0/+9I've got to be honest, this was totally awesome, but I hate when "5 Best" starts at 1 and declines, where's the excitement?!
- johnparkman, on 12/05/2007, -0/+0Bad accounting practices: Forgetting a digit in the figure mentioned in the first caption could mean a difference of anywhere from $100,000 to $900,000!
"The first photograph to sell for more than $3 million, Andreas Gurky’s 99 cent II, Diptych reached $3,34,456..." - dasdef, on 12/05/2007, -2/+6high res pics please, especially in a thread like this
- artbaby, on 12/05/2007, -0/+2Your research is not entirely correct.

http://www.artinfo24.com/shop/artikel.php?id=197- Lythium, on 12/05/2007, -0/+2Yes, but.... your site is in German, and has no pics =(
- dupswapdrop, on 12/05/2007, -6/+1Uh my 10 year old takes better photos than these.
- xrevision, on 12/05/2007, -0/+0To appreciate Gursky you need to know what tilt-shift framing is and how it pretty much gets rid of linear perspective. You also have to appreciate the explosion of color (saturation) and how he uses that to comment on the changes in globalization and the economy. Given the same equipment as he, I don't think you would be able to balance, frame, or even choose the same subject as him.
- markivey, on 12/05/2007, -0/+0Art's in the eye of the beholder, right? I like the cowboy (but then again, I'm from Texas).
- jkharris07, on 12/05/2007, -0/+1thats insane how much those photos go for.
- PulpOutlaw, on 12/05/2007, -2/+1I hope this is a joke...
http://digg.com/software/The_Beginning_of_the_End_ ... - getedu, on 12/06/2007, -0/+0I've always wondered how selling photos for serious $$$ will survive when someday everyone will be able to take 8MP digital photos with their super-duper, all-in-one, no-photography-skills-required, camera-phones...
