- Jimmerz, on 05/26/2008, -4/+100Could have done it in half the time using FedEx.
- hiscity, on 05/26/2008, -17/+80Let's ignore the fact that GPS usually doesn't work inside of buildings, airplanes, and delivery vans.
- theYevvin, on 05/26/2008, -2/+64You do realize this is viral marketing right? If not, then they are beating you at the game.
- poidh, on 05/26/2008, -5/+41I'm going to bet that 8 people will complain about how much carbon this released.
- sgun, on 05/26/2008, -9/+44Even if it is total bs, the concept itself is fantastic.
- Ramble, on 05/26/2008, -10/+37That's why there are no delivery vans or aircraft in the world that use GPS technology.
- YvesKlein, on 05/26/2008, -3/+26Curly Q's out in the middle of the Atlantic? No wonder DHL takes so fu¢king long.
- WordsnCollision, on 05/26/2008, -1/+23Dude has one hell of an ego.
- Kyan, on 05/26/2008, -2/+22I want to know the tracking number.
- pwnerofnoobs, on 05/26/2008, -2/+21This never happened. Total ***** marketing.
- DesignNerd, on 05/26/2008, -13/+31That...is ***** brilliant.
- Kunohara, on 05/26/2008, -10/+28If I were to do this, I'd draw a giant wang and point it right at the U.S :)
- metalhead3767, on 05/26/2008, -0/+18How the ***** did he power it for 55 days.
- orgazmo, on 05/26/2008, -1/+17Funny how they also have external antennas.
- pwnerofnoobs, on 05/26/2008, -1/+17You can't digg down the truth.
- bilco, on 05/26/2008, -1/+17So, DHL deliver to random longitude/latitude locations in the middle of nowhere over the Atlantic ?
I call shenanigans - HeadJam, on 05/26/2008, -7/+22Holy ***** you tards it's not even real. If any courier company took these routes, they'd be out of business. Now if they'd said some dude did it by himself in a balloon with no sense of direction, THEN I'd be amazed.
- bassman12593, on 05/26/2008, -2/+17My work plus his. smaller and less backtracking
http://www.flickr.com/photos/26007682@N07/25240047 ... - teh_techie, on 05/26/2008, -0/+14I'm betting it will be more than 8.
- inactive, on 05/26/2008, -0/+14Carbon = Plant Food!
- Maxmojo015, on 05/26/2008, -5/+16Turned out pretty *****
- david76, on 05/26/2008, -4/+14Viral marketing. Please look away.
- Zorlac, on 05/26/2008, -2/+12They forgot to mention he specifically asked for overnight service to Bangkok, and it still took 55 days.
- HappyScrappy, on 05/26/2008, -0/+8It was run via the power of *****. He's just lying to us.
- orgazmo, on 05/26/2008, -0/+8I'd believe it if it were done over land, but the contour of his hair is all over water, and there are no islands in most of the loops. I highly doubt DHL went along with that. The BS flag has been raised.
- Pixelpaws, on 05/26/2008, -2/+9Incorrect. I AM someone who drives one of those delivery vans. We just have the GPS receiver externally mounted. Ever seen a white circular object on a UPS van, semi truck, or any similar vehicle? That's the satellite link.
- najdorf, on 05/26/2008, -2/+9Actually i did an even bigger drawing when I sailed the solar system with my space shuttle back in 1985, here is the proof:
http://img385.imageshack.us/img385/4967/mytrippy7. ... - Nipsey, on 05/26/2008, -2/+8This must have been the same route that my last DHL shipment took.
- Surferess, on 05/26/2008, -1/+73 so far, guilty as charged.
- awfulgrace, on 05/26/2008, -1/+7Yeah - I think they took some liberties to smooth the lines and such - but if you read the article and watch the video, it's an ad for DHL and they're doing this specifically for the ad.
It's not like he put the package in a drop box. - najdorf, on 05/26/2008, -0/+6Actually i did an even bigger drawing when I sailed the solar system with my space shuttle back in 1985, here is the proof:
http://img385.imageshack.us/img385/4967/mytrippy7. ... - ChromaVita, on 05/26/2008, -0/+6Wait. Did you cross out that C because you're a Blood?
- jpl7986, on 05/26/2008, -2/+7looks like he was drunk the entire time he was in or around Europe
- inactive, on 05/26/2008, -3/+8Is there something wrong with viral marketing?
- rkuchiki, on 05/26/2008, -0/+5What exactly are we marketing? The fact it will take 55 days for a package to arrive because DHL is busy drawing virtual images via GPS?
- ThePwnyExpress, on 05/26/2008, -2/+7damn.... do you guys even know how much carbon this released?
- adulgo, on 05/26/2008, -0/+4That's Cape Verde. Nice place, but the mail takes awhile to arrive. :)
- sodoh, on 05/26/2008, -3/+7Sorry but this is BS Viral marketing. Ignoring for a moment that the GPS wouldn't work DHL use a spoke system of delivery. Also getting an airplane/boat to do crazy circles in the ocean that large would be a serious waste of money.
This is like the 13year old credit card story. Buried for being an advert. - sdipaola, on 05/26/2008, -0/+4kind of bs - all they show in these articles is the artists drawing on a map - no one has shown the gps trace yet - which will have little resemblance to the drawing - if there even is one.
real artists are using gps and landscape in interesting ways - but the press always catches on to the bs marketing types. - ace4261991, on 05/26/2008, -1/+5ahhhhh you just made me think of the game... *****. i was at least 4 months strong.
- crapmatic, on 05/26/2008, -2/+6I can't believe how gullible some people are. Does anyone seriously think DHL is going to deliver by lat/long lists and out in the ocean? That segment in far northern Russia is ridiculous.. there are barely even any towns there, much less any roads or infrastructure.
- murrowman, on 05/26/2008, -0/+4no, i'm sorry. you lose.
Hackaday had it first.
http://www.hackaday.com/2008/05/24/biggest-drawing ... - ronmexico, on 05/26/2008, -0/+4I'm impressed DHL was able to make those deliveries in the middle of the ocean off the coast of Africa and South America. Nicely done DHL.
- MsArtGeek, on 05/27/2008, -0/+3It doesn't need to. Vector drawings can be made with only a set of connect-the dots location references plus some directional data in between. Google Bezier curves.
- CannonGod, on 05/26/2008, -0/+3Great stuff! I would be interested to know how much that piece of art cost to make? ;-P
Also, how much would you have saved if you'd combed your hair? XD - Hosalabad, on 05/26/2008, -1/+4The LAST time I used DHL, I had a server take this same path instead of being shipped from Illinois to Georgia.
- jasdf, on 05/26/2008, -0/+3Here is a real one (GV for Gulfstream V), notice how irregular it is. There is no guarantees that air traffic control will be able to give you exactly what is on your flight plan. Plus I'm not sure what type of plane DHL is using, but somehow I doubt it could ever make some of those legs.
http://flightaware.com/live/flight/GLF17/history/2 ... - KingLeo, on 05/26/2008, -0/+3"scheme"? you mean campaign?
- Pixelpaws, on 05/26/2008, -0/+2Dugg just for the last sentence: "However, DHL does know a thing or two about taking long circuitous routes on their way to a destination, so this ad makes perfect sense."
