- nepawoods, on 10/10/2007, -2/+54Ah .... it's the "New" 7 wonders ... according to some private corporation looking for a way to capitalize on them.
- Coy0te, on 10/10/2007, -3/+45The "new" 7 wonders is a ***** joke. The fact that anyone could vote as much as they wanted meant it could have been easily gamed. Also how did "Christ Redeemer" become part of the 7 but not the Egyptian pyramids? I'm pretty sure the mystery and logistics of the pyramids is far more impressive then a big statue, same goes with the historical importance of Acropolis of Athens over the Colosseum.
- Heggy, on 10/10/2007, -2/+28The Great Wall of China panoramic is phenomenal.
Also, what's with the poser in Machu Picchu? - Reaktor5, on 10/14/2007, -11/+27Isn't the iPod Touch supposed to be on this list?
- romahicks, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16How on Earth did Rio De Janeiro make the 7 Wonders of the World? Because of the gigantic statue? Which is not really that big, nor that impressive. Sorry if you are from Rio De Janeiro...
But a statue of Jesus and city with terrible infrastructure gets lumped in with the Great Wall and Petra? They are not even the same caliber. - postal21, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14wait so we have 7 new ones?
some of these choices seem semi-lame. especially since the pyramids arent one of them... they are only remaining original ones right? - silverchrysalis, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16a one-eyed, peg-legged, grizzle-bearded, foul-mouthed pirate
- MasterThief117, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12My only question is, what is the camera standing on?
- inactive, on 10/14/2007, -0/+9Where's our 360° Interactive Panorama section already?
- skyfire1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Why does it always have to be seven?
- KyleGoetz, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11Exactly. How Christ the Redeemer can be on there but the Pyramids at Giza (one of the original 7 Wonders, btw) aren't is ridiculous. Beyond that, Christ the Redeemer was built in the late 1920s. I don't think it's that much of an innovation for that time.
- T0B1A5Funky, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7These aren't the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World.
These aren't the real deal. - foolonthehill, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7I only saw adverts in the Taj Mahal and Rio de Janero photos, and the Rio de Janero one was pretty unobtrusive. Also, I imagine that this site gets through quite a lot of bandwidth, so you can't really complain about a bit of advertising to cover costs.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Jesus is a nub compared to other pictures.
Angkor Wat pwns. - BlackOp, on 10/14/2007, -0/+5Anyone know how to save these?
- Import98, on 10/10/2007, -8/+13They're amazing but the whole advertising/watermarking in the pics kind of takes me out of it.
- Shorties, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5No seriously anyone know? It seems to have been shot in one take (No one changes position as you move around, and there is nothing that the camera is hanging on or sitting on. How do they do it?
- judgeFire, on 10/14/2007, -0/+5Typically, you use a 360 panorama tripod attachent, such as http://www.360precision.com/360/index.cfm?precision=products.home&mainnavID=2 and preferably a very wide angle lense. Alternatively, a Panoscan camera can be used; http://www.panoscan.com/
Good software for post production you can find at http://www.kekus.com/ and for playback, it's simply Apple QuickTime VR from the 90s. - EmailAddress, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6I was expecting the original wonders... not the "NEW" ones.... dugg down cause I liked the original wonders.
- hiro, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5These aren't the seven wonders of the world, do people just get to pick their own these days?
- goblindegook, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Considering six of them no longer exist, it would be hard to photograph them. Still, I agree with the sentiment re the "new" wonders.
- AllenHSmilden, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4It belongs on the ***** list more than on any of the 7 wonders list. I'm also sure there are more people who aren't American and agree that does not deserve wonder status.
- TheSurfer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3That has to wait until everyone has minimum flash 9.0 r28
- 965473, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3ditto
- CrucialMatt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Because that's how many deadly sins there are. There's a connection in there.
- ipodman715, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3There actually is an airplane in the panorama to the left of Jesus.
- brotherfranciz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Dude, the last time I checked, the pyramids are located in Egypt, not the USA... and I'm also pissed off at this "new" 7 wonders ***** and I'm from Hong Kong - not everyone on Digg are Americans you know... your second point was REALLY unnecessary.
- TheSurfer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Just follow the link in the menu to read about VR Photography - how to.
Regarding the bottom in most cases we remove the tripod and take a separate downshot by hand. If you have a small "footprint" from the tripod we may also sometimes just edit the bottom in Photoshop. - jggr, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I'm by no means an expert, and what I'm about to tell you is nothing more than my own worthless opinion... But I'd imagine it's a fish eye lens pointed up to get the details, and then pointed down to get the finishing touch. So, the one shot pointed up gets all the people and activity (hence why no one seems to move), and the down shot fills in the spot where the camera was.
But like I said, it's just a thought. If anyone has the actual details, please correct me. I'm curious how far off I am. - itronic, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2There aren't many alternatives for QuickTime VR.
What would you have used? - Urusai, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Art Deco Jesus begs to differ.
- brotherfranciz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2@ tarp:
What is it with you and Americans? I think you're being the ***** here, unleashing an unprovoked attack on people... some of whom aren't even Americans. - TheSurfer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Read my HOW TO page, it is in the menu
Fact is that the 7 wonder panoramas represents all the main ways How to do panoramas.
Rio de Janeiro and Petra are done with an 8mm fisheye-4 images, Colosseum is an 8 image fullframe fisheye, Taj Mahal was done with a rotational film scanning camera, and Machu Picchu and Chichén Itzá are cylindrical panoramas done with a standard lens and around 10 img. - randomposter, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Someone mentioned Niagara Falls. Niagara Falls 360 interactive panoramas are available there:

http://accensio.com/360-virtual-tours/canada/ontario/niagara-falls3-flash.html - Viroz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I'm from Rio and I think the statue is not that impressive too... But you have to agree that the view from there is just amazing (which still doesn't make it a 7th wonder, thought).
- Tippis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I'm not entirely certain commercial tourism existed back in Herodotus' times...
- dstz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2"some of these choices seem semi-lame. especially since the pyramids arent one of them... they are only remaining original ones right?"
They had the good sense of refusing to participate in that travesty. I saw a documentary on the people who made this event, and it was very clear that they were making business as usual and nothing else. - Tippis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2First of all, the standard "dd you even read the article" comment.
Second of all, because, historically speaking, Jesus is a n00b. - cbuddha42, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Anyone else just getting a black box from the QTVR?
- dstz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Why 7, haven't we build quite a few new things in the last millenaries compared to the early times of the 7 wonders (the real ones) ? yes that's also what Unesco thinks (http://whc.unesco.org/en/list/). Why is that the business around this event can't give any proof that it is indeed giving some money back to the new wonders like it was said at a moment. They should care a litlle more because the Machu Picchu is already in great danger because of tourism and it seem that those people don't care a minute if their money stunt will only accelerate the demise of an important historical site.
- proverb, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It's funny how even as a statue he's unimpressive.
- HallsOfMandos, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The Lost City in Petra, Jordan - is that where they shot the last part of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade?
- crushfan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The site has a badass host, still alive!
- AndrewDB, on 01/10/2008, -2/+3Heh, I've been to The Eiffel Tower and Chichen Itza.. this coming March, I'll see the Colosseum.
I can't wait. :]
They're even more beautiful in real life, photos just don't do these "wonders" justice. - scully32, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Check out Mr. Cool in 360° on the Machu Picchu one.
- kiwikultist, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4Lots more panoramas than just the 7 wonders. Click the 'Choose Panorama' button in the top right corner of a picture page and it lists them all. Personally, I think the Arc de Triomphe is cooler than all the 7 Wonders.
http://www.panoramas.dk/fullscreen6/f45-arc-de-triomphe-paris.html - Kingconsulting, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Buried for stupid comment.
- apsk121, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Funny how the Taj Mahal itself isn't shown in it's panorama.
