- kylesellers, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I think it's funny that the "ethics" of the 2 conservative blogs on the list are both listed as "What the hell?" with a bomb as the logo, while michaelmoore.com and moveon.org are listed as strong in the ethics department. Hmmm.....
- coolian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Damn, I've become deaf.
- Jaq524, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Seriously, where's the "most unnecessarily annoying chart designs of 2006" list?
- detrate, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4craigslist has a STRONG design??
- iatokyo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I think in order to make it to the top page first of all it needs to be posted (or at least digged) by a top digger...
- bdickason, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I'm really disappointed that this didn't make it to the frontpage, it's about twenty times better than those annoying 'MOST BEAUTIFUL SITES OF THE YEAR' posts and actually takes into account more than a pretty color scheme.
- runforcover, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Glad to help.
- mc7winkie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2/sarcasm ???
- runforcover, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Those tables are pretty loud in Opera and IE.
firefox++; - drilldown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Looks like advertising for Pandora if ya ask me. My vote is now in... This site works well for me, and I already use all the others advertised. Advice for Pandora: Don't let users get stuck in a rut due to previous choices. Netflix been there done that.
Profiling only works in the short term. - Dardoush, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh!
http://www.designrific.com
isn't there in the list!! :) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3"it's hard for me to get someone like kevinrose or the supernova17 guy to notice me"
Try sending flowers. - crazyboy1121, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yes!!! I need to make one!
- yahoofrom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Marking as inaccurate. Digg should lose all categories...
- Filius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thats Mark Steyn, now that I think about it. The other guy plays football...
- MackPrime, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1pretty bad idea right there, winkie.
- aftk2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Subtraction.com, best blog? Really? Is it just me, or does the emperor have no clothes?
Sorry, subtraction.com looks nice, but I guess after all the fawning coverage the Onion design received (and for what reason, I have no idea) I've just been kind of baffled at the attention that Khoi Vinh gets (although blockwriter is kind of cool.) - Visk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Someone give me a good reason why reddit.com is the "clear winner" in the Social Linklists section.
- Black913Hole, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1uh oh, now hes gonna tell the story of how he made his name. it's twinkie by the by.
- megaman2005, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Things have really changed through the years as to what is cool and what is not.
- Filius, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1What? Google is marked down for a lack of democracy?!? Algorithms just aren't good enough anymore, I guess. Everything needs to be colored in partisan internet opinions....
What I found absurd, however, was the critique of right wing bloggers. Apparently, only those on the left of the political spectrum are capable of "openness, constructiveness, democratic spirit and humor." Extrapolated to its logical conclusion, the only real difference between Hitler and Stalin was that Stalin could really get some laughs after a beer or two, while Hitler would just huddle sullenly in the corner.
But really, can it be fair to damn one half of the populace to boring, morally repugnant, deconstructive, and closed isolation? I mean, isn't that a bit harsh?
Too bad the process they used to arrive at these conclusions isn't more transparent.
And that their comments were less deconstructive.
And the process was more democratic.
And more funny. Funny helps.
Anyway, If you want a funny right-winger, read some Mark Stein. Hilarious. - bdickason, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2This is true but I've had some success in the past w/ getting my stories bumped up via top diggers, it's alot harder now that they're putting in efforts to prevent users from 'gaming' the system, because it's hard for me to get someone like kevinrose or the supernova17 guy to notice me :P
- sooperpitcher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0As strong as google, ebay, delicious...
- crazyboy1121, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How many people need to agree in order for a website to be marked what it is? Or is it a one guy thing? Or a "The people Vote" thing?
- DaMacGamer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Apple>Microsoft. what do you know...
- koenkai, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Evidently, its the opinion of the two individuals who make up iA: Oliver Reichenstein and programmer Moritz Zimmer. I'm not sure if Moritz participated in making the list (Oliver posted the entry). Just check out what the site says about who makes up iA:
http://www.informationarchitects.jp/about-us/
(see under "Resume Oliver Reichenstein", where he states: "For now iA is a two man show, but I work closely with the guys from ThePlant, who are the best and most inspiring programmers I worked with since Moritz went back to Uni.")
My biggest complaint about the article is how arbitrary some of the categories seem to be. While I do admit that I agree with many of Oliver's other sentiments expressed on the site, I'm not in agreement with this web site run down. Yes. Google does get some nice shoutouts about, well, everything it does. But is it fair to list google.com, gmail.com, and google analytics? At least throw in Yahoo Mail, if you're going to do that for the sake of propriety. Then again, you'd have to toss in other players as well, so maybe that's not such a great idea--but hopefully you can see my point. I am curious how the sites were selected.
The bottom line: this is not an objective perspective (then again, judging design never is). Pls. just keep in mind that it's *likely* just one man's opinion (it would have been helpful if there was some explanation of how these sites were rated), and therefore is highly subjective. - squarehappy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Too many of these ratings make no sense. Reddit, for example, has perfect ratings in information architecture and user interface. As far as I can see, it has no architecture whatsoever, just one long list that you can sort different ways. Maybe there is some kind of organization, but if I can't find it that's a problem. As far as user interface, Reddit badly needs article summaries. With all these friggin "social linklists" out there, there's hardly time to read it all. It's like the popular trend of about 6 years ago where sites would hide the URL in the status bar when you hovered a link because you didn't really want to go wherever the link was going to take you. Okay, maybe that was just the porn sites I frequented.
- philrenaud, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2A good a forum as any:
Should I be continuing with my 35-sexiest lists, Digg? All three have made front page, but they've all gotten some negative comments. I do them once every six months, and I am thinking that maybe I should stop all together rather than doing one for April.
( http://digg.com/design/The_35_Sexiest_Designed_Websites_you_ve_Forgotten_part_3 and http://digg.com/design/The_NEXT_35_Sexiest_Designed_Websites_You_ve_Forgotten were the last two)
Not looking to annoy the crowd; just don't know how else to ask diggers specifically. Thanks a bunch. - seanthebond, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1What do you count as a top digger though? Top 25? 100? 200?
- iatokyo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Thanks runforcover. Son of a...n Explorer doesn't read #fff he wants #ffffff. Fixed it right away. I don't use tables, so I didn't know about that. Thanks again.
- mc7winkie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1You actually remember that one obscure rant I made about 4 months ago? I do congratulate you.
- bdickason, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1phil, I enjoyed your latest 35 sexiest list and would recommend continuing them. Despite the negative comments, they seem to be well-received by the majority of the Digg community and it's worth it if you even inspire 2-3 great designers over the years.
- SamyIsMyHero, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1reddit is better than digg? Obviously that is some kind of paid advertisement for reddit. I mean reddit is a ***** list of political press releases that are currently just as boring as my work and would never distract me from my daily routine. Winkle has a point, this list is *****.
- mc7winkie, on 10/12/2007, -10/+1Marking as inaccurate. Digg should win all categories... and... ummm.... uhhh..... be elected President, go to the moon, and bitch slap the Chick-Fil-A CEO for stealing its creation of the chicken sandwich.
