- DorkyMore, on 01/08/2009, -0/+15Can we have a design related digg that's not a list or a top 10-50? Becoming a better designer isn't a quantifying process like that.
- trollick, on 01/08/2009, -0/+10Keep it simple
- a2z22a, on 01/08/2009, -1/+10I love textures. I think I'll start making my own.
A really nice collection, I especially like the three tone purple design. Something I myself would love to be able to create.
Really in depth as well. Not just a list! Dugg. - bumcheekcity, on 01/08/2009, -2/+8In other words, here are some websites that look good.
- solid12345, on 01/08/2009, -0/+6I don't see any standard PSD filters, do you see mosaic tiles, texturizer, smudge stick, grain or any of that on these? Oh no? Then they are not standard.
- gametavern, on 01/08/2009, -0/+5Which ones of those are standard?
- gametavern, on 01/08/2009, -1/+6I'm glad, sure makes sites more fun to look at than all wordpress style things.
- Mike.Dunn, on 01/08/2009, -2/+7My goal as a beginning web developer is to break away from the standard header/2 or 3 column/footer lay outs. CSS and nice graphics like these are great ideas to pick up.
- wild, on 01/08/2009, -3/+7I love textures as much as the next guy, but lets not celebrate people just blatantly using standard PSD filters and call it impressive...
- The3pic0ne, on 01/08/2009, -0/+4It can be impressive if they use it enough to make an impact without going overboard. You have to find the perfect medium.
- burninlover, on 01/08/2009, -0/+4dugg for "The Ultimate Wood Tutorial"
- mynameisjudge, on 01/09/2009, -0/+3Great list of beautiful designs for me to stea--uhh--use as inspiration. Dugg : )
- SilentBobSC, on 01/08/2009, -0/+3I just hope that the sites that are using textured / stylized text for their headings are using something like SIFR to make the text a little more accessible.
- whoreable, on 01/08/2009, -1/+4No way! You mean I can make a web page look how I want? That is just plain crazy.

Just to pull three random ones I know the path for off the top of my head. I look at young creative's portfolios all the time. These kind of things stick out like a sore thumb. The same thing goes for designs that survive entirely on the their use of color or imagery. (Hint: Red & Black are the designers crutch.)
In an interview I always ask where their textures and brushes came from. If they scanned them or photographed it themselves, it says a lot more about their creative eye than buying them off of iStock or just running with PSD defaults.
I mean, I get it. I used to do it too. But when showing examples of my work or the work of others, I always make sure they are using original stuff. It makes for a better educational tool.

Look, I know I sound like an elitist prick, but there is a reason my company can charge $150+ an hour to Fortune 500 companies. It is because we are elitist pricks who treat our profession with incredible attention to detail and originality. - Remelox, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2While that is true, I have often found interesting links after hitting one of these list. While this in particular has a little bit of information to be taken from it, some of the other lists on the front page had also had links to tutorials and advice.
- mrBitch, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2Also cool is the "wall of awesome" on one of the example texture using web sites :

- jkirk7msa, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2I'm not a web designer but by looking at those I really want to get my site redesigned. Awesome looks.
- JYoungest1, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2Acceptance broke up years ago, odd their site is still "IN".
- myhandleondigg, on 01/08/2009, -0/+2Just seeing the word "textures" makes my stomach churn.
- vkzawa, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2That was painful to read. Extreme overuse of keywords, someone trying to get a better search ranking?
- sloppychris, on 01/08/2009, -0/+2I know how to find textures, what I want more information on is how to use them in the html / css coding process.
- kwwphoto, on 01/19/2009, -0/+0great inspiration!

http://www.evolutiontrading.net - Wirapuru, on 01/08/2009, -3/+2Wow a few rolldowns on my mice wheel and five minutes later I felt fully inspirated, ready to start a new project. Many quality designs, and very contrasting to each other. Although the techniques are a bit too simple I'm happy I didn't miss this one.
- fredsterss, on 01/08/2009, -6/+2this list sucked, and so do you, friend
