- mikeruiz7, on 10/12/2007, -3/+37My dream of seeing through woman's clothes is a little bit closer.
- spamly, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20MacGyver, is that you?
- shaun1018, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17I'm sure everybody will be using this for taking pretty pictures of flowers and such and not the hot chick down the street...
/sarcasm - nipterink, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10here's how to take infrared pictures with a webcam, if you want to mess around with a cheaper piece of equipment.

- portis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Yes.
- shranko, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7I've seen porn sites where guys use this technique to look right through women’s swimsuits. No one is safe!
- BigglesPiP, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I'm going to try this and see if it really is infra red, or just an odd filter, photo of a person should do.
- Kratisto, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Thanks for the /sarcasm tag. Without it, we wouldn't have known.
- patientx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Direct DL link of the video :

- shafiq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2a clearer explaination why exposed color film can block nearly all visible light and allow near infra red light to pass.
http://www.discovercircuits.com/H-Corner/color-neg.htm - anagoge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So, essentially, you just need some processed film to go over the lense of your camera. Simple enough!
- OsiVert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You can also make some cameras permanently infrared if you remove the filter inside the lens. Of course, you basically can't use the camera for anything else. You can also buy LED flashlights and replace them with infrared LEDs from radioshack to use in pitch black or night shots.
- InfiniteNothing, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Now if only there was a how-to on a backscatter X-ray or a holographic millimeter imaging device.
- alceria, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Video won't load for me. Building an IR filter out of bits of cardboard and other various crap sounds like a pain in the butt, and I'm guessing the finished product isn't that great. An IR filter can be picked up pretty cheaply (think mine was about $35) and you can buy an adapter if they don't make a size small enough to fit on your digital camera.
Don't know if it's mentioned in the video since I can't view it, but if you want to see if your camera can pick up IR, point an infrared remote at it and push the buttons while watching the LCD...i.f you see the "light" coming from the remote, you're in business. A lot of newer cameras have filters that block IR. I used to get great results with my old coolpix 4500 and a hoya filter. - RandyF, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Luckily I own a early-model Nikon D70 with a weak (non-existant) IR blocking. I can buy an off-the-shelf IR pass filter and can take these all day.
With the D70s and the D50 they changed the sensor filter and it does not take nearly as good IR photos. - FieldAnonymouse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1D50 is not as good perhaps, but speaking from experience it still works pretty well. On a good day I can use my normal 18-55mm lens (max f/5.8), and an overcast day I can still use my 50mm (max f/1.4) and still get handheld shots pretty well.
- dattaway, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Good find! That page shows the trick that will work for any color camera. That flat filter is on almost every color camera, because without it pictures would be all washed up with white like it was snowing. Infrared will overpower the image sensors on all three colors.
- rhettnyedotorg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1couldn't have been, this was electrical tape and not Duct tape. granted, he did have a jack knife, but no sign of duct tape, so can't be macguyver.
- PinkLink, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is pretty cool. I shoot a lot of infrared film, and the effect is amazing. More people should see this.
- optikalblitz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Very poorly posted Instructable. I don't know how i got it to work but the video finally loaded with no usr/pw prompt..
The o/p says: "I decided to publish the video "as is", for anyone who might be interested. Lazy... I know..."
So, fair warning i guess. But i'd still much rather prefer a tagged photo series for me to study, as viewing this video multiple times to get all of the instructions down is a PITA. - thenativeraver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Uh that was one of the worst video's I've ever seen!
Buried for the god forsaken music. - Wootery, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Seriously people - http://www.space.com/businesstechnology/technology/t-ray_camera_020613.html
- themastersb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Once made you too can take pictures of UFOs
- pixelbender, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The IR light wasn't strong enough.
- demizu, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0I can't believe it! I'm not impressed. Butt dugg it for some reason.
- jumpingjohn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0What's with the user/pass dialogue in safari? WTF?
- GuyHitByTruck, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Am I the only one getting asked for a user name and password when I try to load the video, or even go to the metacafe website?
- ggbs, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Direct link to full screen video
