- jezsik, on 06/08/2009, -0/+4This goes to show that you don't HAVE to build boring apartment blocks. There is a development going on quite close to my home where an old commercial site has been rezoned to residential. Instead of building something people want to look at, they're putting up a series of cookie-cutter apartment blocks. The city has not exactly clued in to the fact that interesting buildings make for an interesting city and that attracts more tax payers.
- illied, on 06/08/2009, -0/+3Great idea and a compelling design. But I didn't read anything about costs. How much $$$ is what the developers will be asking.
- NBCLocal, on 06/24/2009, -0/+2This is a really awesome concept, but it leaves a few questions unanswered.
What are the chances of something like this actually being made? And in cities, what would be the issues with totally dismantling the current structure that occupies a city block and replacing it with this one? I'd love to see more on it. - inactive, on 06/08/2009, -0/+2Really amazing. Thanks for linking to the original design inspiration as well.
- ssquared22, on 06/08/2009, -0/+1I love the architecture concepts on display here. It reminds me of some of the urban designs in China
- MargotCross, on 06/08/2009, -1/+2Inspiring design, thanks for posting
- inactive, on 06/08/2009, -0/+1it's pretty cool, but just like everything else on inhabitat.com, it's unfortunately not likely to ever be built
- tripwire45, on 06/08/2009, -0/+1It's a design, not a reality. Sure, it looks cool and it sounds cool, but so have all of the utopian designs that have been proposed over the last 70 years or so. The design isn't the problem. It's getting people to rethink how to live; not just 1000 people, but an entire nation. I'm not excited. I won't be until someone can point to an actual living community based on this design and tell me, "See? There it is...and it works." Let me know when it's there.
- NBCLocal, on 06/24/2009, -0/+0I agree with the potential doubts of city officials, because with such a new design and structure, in the midst of a city, it seems like many rules and ideas would need to be reassessed. And how would the food and water be monitored so that it meets health and safety standards.
Let's see a follow up - 123bucklemyshoe, on 06/08/2009, -2/+0Yeah I agree. It seems, like this couldn't actually be built in real life. Or it would not be very likely... and also would city officials be okay with using this in place of any system that already, exists? I'm extremely interested in science and programming especially with newer forms of molecular structures but it's almost like this is a big scale version of a giant molecule if you think about it. Not exactly but close so yeah.
