- beejay, on 10/12/2007, -2/+71For some reason, I thought the one with the little guy pulling the sign over was particularly creepy.
- LR2_, on 10/12/2007, -1/+38The first one was the best.
- dodger2020, on 10/12/2007, -5/+39Yes, it's just you.
- longofest, on 10/12/2007, -5/+38YOU are lame. This rocks. I'm from DC, and unfortunately haven't seen any of these....

That's cool!
I think I'm gonna decorate my cube with aliens. - postal21, on 10/12/2007, -1/+30The real-life people are great. I wonder how long til the hobos steal the clothes?

- longofest, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21It's not. Have you heard? Digg isn't just for technology anymore.
- isajeep, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Heh, I'm from Baltimore and that one caught me off guard since I see that street sign all the time.
- VeganG, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Why do you get to decide who's right when it comes to art interpretation? The fact that it's invoking ANY excited response is what makes it art in the first place.
The best art speaks to the Common People. You don't have to be sipping from a glass of champagne to "get" good art. - r2builder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Mirror for anyone that needs it:

I think the mannequin ones are fantastic, they'd bring a bit of excitement on an otherwise dull day. - missflibbles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Those clear sculptures are made of cellophane tape and clear plastic cling wrap. We started making them in art class a couple days before the end of the year (poor planning on the teacher's part, I wanted to make one). You just use a person and wrap the stuff around him, then cut it off and tape it back up. They're pretty easy to make, but really neat, too.
I would like to make some sculptures and leave them around my city, too. A bunch of people should do it. - SnakeO, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Havent you heard? Tape 2.0 is the wave of the future!
- smith, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I highly enjoyed the payphone picture. I immediately thought of "HELLOOO!!!" from Trigger Happy TV.
- mikeyernst, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Hmm... I don't think the Wikipedia article covers the full scope. I've always viewed street artists simply as anyone whose artwork is consumed in the public sphere. In my opinion, street artists provide a public good by making our lives more interesting when we walk down the street.
The best street artists are insanely talented and are increasingly being recognized in more traditional art institutions and museums. The best example might be the British street artist Bansky, whose stencils are amazingly detailed and beautiful. Some of his images (and other street artists) are here in one of my recent blog posts:

And a blurb on Mark Jenkins (his stuff is great):

Perhaps I'll add my two cents to the Wikipedia article sometime. :) - teh_toaster, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10seems slow,
http://www.xmarkjenkinsx.com.nyud.net:8080/outside.html - Drull, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7http://tapemen.blogspot.com has a video of that one, and people walking around it.
- hattrick35, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9It was submitted under technology though.
- oedenfield, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8kramer finally made it happen
- elephantdog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Let me support your statement: We don't need you, we don't want you, go back to Slashdot with your PC buddies and wine tasters.
- bobbybobington, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6All hail wikipedia source of all truth and knowledge! (sarcasm)
- Bucky, on 10/12/2007, -11/+16Eat your heart out, http://www.realityhacking.com/
- ahill7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5i liked most of them, although some of the creepy floating ones were a little out there. the first one, with the fake homeless person, was a good look at how we just pass them by.
- dhughes, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7 ...are they the ones who call it "the O.C." ?
- espek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6No Digg. There are thousands of fake people in the greater D.C. Metro area.
- wileefilmer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Did anyone notice Dave Chapelle making off with someone's lamp in pic no.4?
- tomi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Tape, it seems.
- addakorn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Pedicabs have been Jan NYC for years, just like most other large cities in the US.
I am wondering how you believe the presence of pedicabs signifies a decrease in the quality of life, as they usually transport well off people. - skyhighrockets, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Holy ***** dude, I seriously just saw that first one when I was in DC last week for the 4th!
I honestly thought he was a real person. - jaimevejar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4here are his videos on his blog
http://tapemen.blogspot.com/ - lyonesskim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I found the hooker particularly creepy.
Many of the designs were rather creative. - finite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yes, boingboing really should have been credited here. Perhaps they could ask digg for an auto-crediting system that could search boingboing, and automatically insert a [via] link to them whenever someone links to something here that was previously linked from there. It's the only way to protect their interlinktual property, and get that precious traffic they so rightfully deserve for having linked to this internet meme "first". What I'm saying is, you're a moron.
- Flump5000, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5must have taken hours of planning. Theyre all over the country. Kudos to whoever did this.
- oGMo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yeah particularly the clear plastic kids reminded me of the shadow children from Silent Hill 1 (the PSX game, not the terrible movie).
Pretty cool, actually. :) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Does anyone else think the walker should be locked up outside of a strip club?
- 4889, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Only the clothed ones seemed to really work. The rest felt a little too much like a ..... oh, I dont know.. "communtity art project"?
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2that's cool, it's like living in a Michel Gondry video
- Abjure, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Dugg, if you don't know what Graffiti Research Lab is then you should go check it out. This is by the same people. http://graffitiresearchlab.com/
- sykotic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Some more of the baby
http://www.xmarkjenkinsx.com/storker.html - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Okay, I'm not entirely sure what this guy does, how he does it, what it's for, etc. If someone knows a little bit more than I do, please share.
- flippedcracker, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4some of those are pretty sweet.
- Alienbuc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The dog crapping on the sidewalk was a little disturbing, but kudos for this country and freedom of expression! Nice work!
- elephantdog, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Yes, they walk around with their eyes glazed over- clearly lobotomized by aliens and used as half conscious hosts.
Trust no one,
Agent Moldy and Agent Smelly - h4lofourt33n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I enjoyed the second one, I didn't realize the cone had feet for about five minutes.
- HouseofEl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Odd that I never saw or heard anything about these and I live in the DC area. I'll certainly have to keep a look out. Interesting.
- hd95, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2didn't they do this in blazing saddles?
- curlyman500, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Friend in the dorm room next to mine made these. very very cool, yet easy.
- giantAppleCore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1finite: you are my hero.
interlinktual, classic. - ianjones, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah at first I thought it was Chapelle in that picture as well.
That pic is one of the best actually. -
