- moomza, on 10/10/2007, -6/+105dugg for the "Scrubbing Bubbles" sponsorship.
- sp1keNARF, on 10/10/2007, -1/+50you're killing business for a million mediocre designers here, pal
- screwzluse, on 10/10/2007, -30/+72Because it matters? Or does it affect you that much?
To be honest, it's not a big deal. If that's the logo they like, then whatever. Get over it. This is one of those more retarded ideas. - zephc, on 10/10/2007, -1/+39Bubbles are the new spirals: http://www.splorp.com/critique/

| What's wrong with speech bubbles? :(

- reevolutn, on 10/10/2007, -2/+24says the site with a token web 2.0 logo
- somegeologist, on 10/10/2007, -2/+23Cloud=Bubble 2.0
- defectDS, on 10/10/2007, -1/+19I think names like "buzzr" and "zoomr" are more of a problem then speech bubble logos. Lets start there.
- omarciddo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16Ah, RealPlayer, what a lifetime of achievement, sorta.
- mrhaines, on 10/10/2007, -2/+17Can we end "web 2.0" design as well?
- Zalyster, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13Something about Web 2.0 bubble logos, coming from a site that is in 'beta'.
- simd, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14The point of a logo is to reinforce the brand. The similarily between them all just shows a lack of creativity.
- solesoul, on 10/10/2007, -3/+13Sorry dude, I thought this was just an amusing little article about how the industry really likes to use one image to make it "Web 2.0."
But you're right. We should get over it. - Dhalgren, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10You forgot Pownce...
- aquadoctorbob, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10It really is horrible to see them all laid out like that. I didn't even notice this was going on.
I feel betrayed by the internet :( - Myrddin5, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12Can we end web 2.0, please?
- colincsl, on 10/10/2007, -6/+14Aren't the bubbles informing you about what the product or web page is about? Isn't it more effective than having some random logo with no meaning? Sure, it would be nice to have greater variation between logos, but it does its job well.
- bbschaefer, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10So is he half man and half bear-pig. Or half pig and half man-bear? I'm confused!
- HairyFotr, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Almost all short grammatically correct domain names are already taken.
- euro22, on 12/17/2008, -0/+6I think we're over compensating for all the e-xxxxx.com domains of the 90s
- cwoolf34, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Stop with the ALPHA and BETA crap while your at it. Those words have lost their meaning with web 2.0. ***** Gmail has been in BETA for years. WTF?!? Stop the ***** reflections and the unoriginal gradient usage. It is overly distracting and just gives me a headache when I visit these eye candy web 2.0 glittery bull ***** girly web 2.0 ***** sites.
- ursername180, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Wooooops. Thought they were seperate images. *smacks head*
Opinity's just went overboard. - Caleb83, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8I wonder if there is a correlation between digg's decreasing popularity, and the popularity of this digg...
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6He even spelled "beta" with an actual greek beta instead of the letter "b", for *****'s sake!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Priceline and Bill Shatner FTW!!
- robdazomba, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5This kind of thing happens because marketing and advertising people are lemmings and they latch onto any trend when it comes to pushing a brand or product and won't let go.
A few years ago, the hot thing in marketing was a question for slogan. ("What's in your wallet?" "Where do you want to go today?" "Got milk?" etc.)
Another one is the choir of men harmonizing "dot com" at the end of an ad for a web site.
The list is endless, but I'm amazing that so many marketing, designers and ad agencies are allowed to get away with so much copy-cat behavior, especially given how much some of them are paid. - whitehornmatt, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Doesn't that make the rest of the word redundant?
- willcoll, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4yeah, someone should do a beta list. because half ass work can always be made up for with a "beta" in your logo
- smacksaw, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Reading those names reminded me of The Simpsons when they try to figure out their phone service. Are we with Comquack? No I think it's Niagular.
Exactly. A speech bubble for an insipid made-up name is even worse. - spankaccount, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Al Qaeda? Ya, they probably don't like him very much.
- zaren, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4and spirals appear to be a spinoff of the slanted oval. I noticed that back around 2000, a lot of the up-and-coming tech / IT / dotcom companies had an oval behind or around their name as a logo, usually angled up to the right / down the left, like a forward slash. If they had an oval, it was also usually split in half, like a proto-spiral. I wish I could come up with examples, but I remember that in the tech park I worked at back then, there were three startups in a row on the same street that had the same sort of oval logo.
- LegOfLamb, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5He is half bear, half man and half pig. Everyone knows that.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The release of Web 3.0 has been delayed due to unanticipated development delays.
- jivemasta, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4And Pownce.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4"...these eye candy web 2.0 glittery bull ***** girly web 2.0 ***** sites." Dude, you're stretching a bit...you even had to repeat an adjective.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3BTW, it's been here for quite a while, and isn't going anywhere.
- whackaxe, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3man"s got a point.
and too much spare time. - aquadoctorbob, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Tiny reply icon? Is that you?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Wow if this is someones gripe then their life must be almost perfect. or they just like to complain about nothing.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I think complaining about nothing (or things that don't really need fixed) is so much easier. That way, when you fail to cause any sort of change you don't go on a depression-fueled drinking binge and crash into some poor bastard.
- digger_twit, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2They Forgot Meebo
http://meebo.com - nthpro, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5He forgot one. Skype also has a speech bubble as its logo. Its just a little more confused on which kind of speech bubble it is.
- jinushaun, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2It's easier to trademark and buy domain names for intentional misspelling of words. Just like Quiksilver clothing company dropped the c in quick.
- gwhardyiv, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2There are other ways to express the aspect of communication involved in each of these brands. This trend goes beyond lazy design and into the realm of mindless mimicry. It's not a dire issue, but from a design perspective, it needs to stop
- archlich, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2[Cookie]
- TrainingName, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5Despite the fact that every single one of those logos displayed contains a speech bubble, most of the logos are pretty interesting to look at.
- PunkRampant, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2What about names like "pownce"
- rdjurovich, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2How did this make the Digg front page without Pownce being in the list?!?! :p
- whiteyMcBrown, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I gotta agree with this guy... it reminds me of all the swoosh logos that were around in the 90s dot-com days. Oh... and the reflection thing can probably be given a break, too
