- fober, on 10/11/2007, -5/+65This car uses puppies, kittens and iphones for fuel.
- Smog2k, on 10/11/2007, -2/+43They used to televise Goodwood in the states, no more.
Someday the US will realize that not ALL racing just turns left..... - badgermike, on 10/11/2007, -2/+16I saw the The GT-R in AZ this winter. It looks and sounds awesome. http://flickr.com/photos/mikefield/sets/72157594528020753/detail/
- aegis9975, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14First off the 911 Turbo has an base MSRP of $120k, secondly the Mustang Cobra has a solid rear-axle and handles like *****, and the GT-R is suppose to come in at anywhere between 450-480hp, sub-4 sec 0-60, and massive grip with AWD/4WS.
Also, R34 Skyline GT-Rs when they were sold were closer to $42k when based off yen conversion during that time. They were 5700000 Yen; no where near $77k, you are talking out of your ass. - eleven, on 10/11/2007, -2/+12Who cares - that is one sexy car. They did a great job of updating it without losing too much of its boxy style.
- MrStylz, on 10/11/2007, -5/+14I still prefer the R34 to any other =/
- ronintetsuro, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8To be completely frank, if I had the means to get a GT-R, the LAST reason I'd be getting one would be for the *styling*.
I don't buy cars to impress my pissy pants, ascot wearing rich neighbors or to get goldiggers hot in the pants. If I'm spending $77k, that beast better knock my dick in the dirt everytime I get sideways. GT-R promises that kind of action.
If you want fashion, go buy a Mini and let us play with the good stuff uninterrupted. - StarWarsFever, on 10/11/2007, -8/+15""The GT-R will start at about $57,000, the V-Spec will go for $67,000 and the top of the line EVO that produces 530 horsepower will be priced at $94,000."
Uh no thanks. That's just absurd. The cars you can get in those same price ranges?
Fully involved Mustang Cobra for $57,000
Dinan modded BMW M3 for $67,000
Porsche 911 Turbo for $97,000
Nice car, sure. But no for THAT kind of money."
Yeah, but none of those cars can even begin to touch the performance/handling and overall awesomeness of the GTR. And as far as the price goes, skyline GTR's have always been around $77,000 converted from Yen. - joe122370, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8@skyshock
and this car will eat all of those cars for breakfast and crap lamborghini's. The previous versions were the best car ever made and not sold in the US. - bankhead, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6I never understood how U.S. regulations could halt such a respected car, I'm sure that it would do well here - http://www.automobilemag.com/reviews/coupes/0601_nissan_skyline/
- logicalnoise, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6well duh, I mean it's like you've never seen drag racing before.
- ronintetsuro, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Tell you what Stylz, you bring your Cobra, and I'll bring a GT-R and a shovel.
The GT-R is to beat you to the first turn, and the shovel is to dig your overpriced Escort out of the dirt when you go off the track trying to keep up. - unfinite, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5The //current// "Skyline" has absolutely nothing to do with the older skylines. aka the Infiniti G35
The GT-R is more a Skyline than the G35.
Although it wont be called a Skyline, the top end Skyline's were badged GT-R and this is just Nissan's way of being hip and creating a buzz. - Smog2k, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5That was a blanket statement referencing that GT racing is still a small market in the US. I'll hold your hand and walk you through it next time.
- speaker219, on 10/11/2007, -3/+7There's gotta be an iPhone somewhere in this picture...SOMEWHERE
- sdcarter, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4If you're looking at cars in that price range then chances are you have enough expendable income to afford it.
Also, your comparisons are, in my opinion, wrong. Better comparisons would be (based on output/intent) Shelby Mustang GT500KR (500bhp, price not available), Porsche GT2 (462 bhp, $180,000+), BMW E92 M3 (420bhp/$54,000 + estimated Dinan Stage 2 upgrade 80bhp/$10,000 - $15,000 = $65,000 - $70,000), and Laborghini Gallardo (500bhp, $200,000).
The GT-R is aiming pretty high and the average person would guffaw at the idea of paying $94,000 for a Nissan. But these are probably the same people who would have laughed at Honda when it introduced the NSX so many years ago. In truth, the GT-R is just the next logical step and people who know what to expect are the same people who would willingly pay $100,000ish or more for exclusive access to that level of performance.
Do you need a car like this? No. Do you want a car like this? Absolutely yes. Would you buy a car like this if you had the money to spend and were in the market? Unquestionably yes. - Velocity211, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6Watch out ferrari
- etx313, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Are you insane? Are you one of those people that thinks vista looks like osx? It has 4 wheels? OMG So does a mustang! Thieves!
- solemnraven, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3HAHAHAH NASCAR ROAD COARSE AHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA.
B.C those peices of crap are designed for banked, wide ass turns they take those curves at like 30mph, hahaha i can do that in my WRX, in REVERSE - emrikol, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Damnit Clarkson, is that you?
- stockjones, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Screw the damn Iphone, I want a Skyline GT-R.
- craig4, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I don't know where you are going to find a 911 turbo for 97,000... even at invoice they are 120,000
- ronintetsuro, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I'm not sure, but I did read that it had more to do with Nissan Corporate being too proud of the R series to downtune it for a Stateside port. And I agree with them.
Might also have something to do with the common practice of reporting an engine at a lower hp than what it actually preforms at to headfake emissiosn people. Something tells me they might have had problems with that here. Especially not being a big three manufacturer. - 98acura, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Are they harvested from Six Flags?
...too soon? - craig4, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1AWD vs RWD, I'll take the AWD any day.
- craig4, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1This is not a skyline... its a GT-R. people really need to start getting it right.
- brownspank, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1You mean, in theory, or for real?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1nope. canada has stricter emissions standards than the entire USA, including possibly California, and skylines pass just fine up there (stock.)
- TwoDeuces, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1While I agree that the article states the same prices you list here, I would say that the badging "GTR" is being misused. By that I mean that GT-R is reserved for only the highest version of a specific model. Not all Skylines are badged as a GTR. The R34 came in a 2.5 litre, single turbo 270hp version badged the GTS-T as well as a 2.6 litre, twin sequential turbo, AWD, AWS version badged the GT-R.
I would imagine then that the pricing would be similar now:
$57,000 - GTS equivalent non AWD, non turbo, approx 350HP. The hope is that true to all Skyline model cars you would find an inline 6 under the hood. Approx 4 litres would be acceptable. This car would produce about the same performance as the 2 billion pound, solid rear axle Cobra GT.
$67,000 - GTS-T non awd, single turbo, approx 420+ HP. Again 4.0 litre engine. Performance would be on par with an M3 Dinan.
$97,000 - reserved for the GT-R badging. At such a jump in price, here is where you can expect to find the AWD and HICAS (Nissan's patented All Wheel Steering system) as well as dual sequential turbos. You might also find a larger engine, although I suspect not. Performance should reach 500+ hp.
I would say acceleration on par with the Porsche, and with AWD/HICAS it should corner better than the Elise. - DrIce926, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I agree, it doesn't look terrible; just not my style. That's ok. =-)
I'm glad someone caught that. I was also referring to the body style mixing, but it is prettier than both of those, in my opinion. A freak mutation. - paulakapdub, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1if it has a ***** VQ35 in there then it ain't *****! I WANT RB26DETT!
- DrDabbles, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Look at the effin size of them rotors. HoooEY. I'd give those Brembos a good working over.
- Chronophobia, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Be glad you weren't there Sunday. Absolutely horrible day. Rain throughout made it hard to enjo although the airshow was amazing.
- thatsmyaibo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Exactly. I was living in Japan in 2002 when the new Skyline was out. Here it's the Infinity G35 (yes that is a skyline). We just have never received a GTR model.
Here is a pic I took of it prior to its release in the US.
http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v321/Arryl/?action=view¤t=DSC00228.jpg - MrStylz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Did you read my comment *****? Where in it does it say anything about a Rustang? They aren't worth anything - I've outrun blown V8 mustangs on the road-tracks plenty of times around with a barely modified, naturally aspirated, high-compression I-4 --- mustangs handle like a ***** piece of ***** even if they do have horsepower. A Dinan M3 and 911 Turbo on the other hand, not so.
- elementop, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2I'll take a Lotus Elise for $50,000. It might not be as fast as the other cars, but it doesn't have to slow down to go around corners :D
- DrIce926, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Oh great, Mustang and Cobalt had unprotected sex when they got drunk nine months ago. At least this one will outlast the rest of the inbred American family.
I'm sure it will be fast enough, I just don't really like how it looks. R34 was beautiful. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3corvette handles like ***** though. check the road and track review on handling;(
- dheaddy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Dammit, I was at the festival on friday and didn't see it
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2the z06 is an amazing track car. at laguna seca it lapped 5 seconds faster than the lotus exige and 1 sec faster than the 911 turbo. thats pretty impressive.
- surfing, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Seeing preproduction cars is about the only thing I miss about living in AZ.
- DrIce926, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Hey Spuy, watch the movie "Idiocracy" please. Then understand the difference between "fast, retarded" American racing and "skillful, intelligent" GT racing.
- aegis9975, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1It'll be released as a "World Car" according to Carlos Ghosen (CEO of Nissan), so it has been announced to be released in the US.
- jasoncz1, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2No it's not just a Nissan! it's a Nissan at goodwood, and it's just been spotted.
- aegis9975, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1huh? pricing on the Nissan GT-R isn't even close to being announced yet. Also, this month's Motortrend "estimates" the price around $70k, which is exactly where the Z06 is priced. Aside from that, its impossible to compare a car with no concrete information being released, must less anybody outside of test drivers even driving.
- x4ncars4me, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1yup your right...they're both silver.
good eye :P - joe122370, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1yes, they've finally converted it to left hand for the US. Previous versions used a twin turbo inline 6 which made it impossible to move the steering box to the other side of the car. You can import the older model GT-R's for about $90,000 US
- solemnraven, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2lol, +1 for taking the time to think up a FWD and a RWD to make the AWD.
I don't think it looks THAT bad, a little boxy, but body kits will surely be aplenty. - amembrane, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0That was my first thought too. It totally reminds me of a mustang.
- skyshock1, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0I'd never pay $97,000 for a Nissan.
" But these are probably the same people who would have laughed at Honda when it introduced the NSX so many years ago."
Yeah, and you see what happened with THOSE. Piss poor dollar to performance ratio, resale value is nothing, sales slumped and they were subsequently discontinued. This Nissan will be nothing more than a Ricer's masturbatory fantasy. I'll pass. -
