Spy Photo: Nissan Skyline GT-R spotted at Goodwood! [PICS]
jalopnik.com — The Nissan GT-R made a quick drive-by at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The GT-R making the rounds was still wearing the fascia-obscuring black bra, but still looking pretty hot. It'll make an official debut at the Tokyo Motor Show later in the year, but Goodwood ain't a bad way for a test vehicle to spend a long weekend, is it?

- test5477, on 10/11/2007, -12/+7is this the us version skyline? well whatever, it looks awesome.
- senixon, on 10/11/2007, -5/+3I doubt it is a US version--steering wheel on the right, but since it's still in testing stage maybe that doesn't matter.
- eleven, on 10/11/2007, -2/+12Who cares - that is one sexy car. They did a great job of updating it without losing too much of its boxy style.
- sdcarter, on 10/11/2007, -6/+5No, the Skyline is a separate entity entirely. GT-R used to be a version of the Skyline; however this car is the first standalone GT-R. SportCompactCar has a nice write-up:

As for whether the GT-R will hit our tarmac... http://www.nissanusa.com/gt-r/index.html- thatsmyaibo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Exactly. I was living in Japan in 2002 when the new Skyline was out. Here it's the Infinity G35 (yes that is a skyline). We just have never received a GTR model.
Here is a pic I took of it prior to its release in the US.

This is going to be one badass car...- skyshock1, on 10/11/2007, -6/+2"The GT-R will start at about $57,000, the V-Spec will go for $67,000 and the top of the line EVO that produces 530 horsepower will be priced at $94,000."
Uh no thanks. That's just absurd. The cars you can get in those same price ranges?
Fully involved Mustang Cobra for $57,000
Dinan modded BMW M3 for $67,000
Porsche 911 Turbo for $97,000
Nice car, sure. But no for THAT kind of money.- vertigorider, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1it wont be that expensive, and thats still a lot of car for $94k. youd have to be retarded to pay $57k for a mustang with its 70s technology. what mustang has a twinturbo awd all wheel steering that can be pumped to 1200hp?
- joe122370, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8@skyshock
and this car will eat all of those cars for breakfast and crap lamborghini's. The previous versions were the best car ever made and not sold in the US.- skyshock1, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0"the top of the line EVO that produces 530 horsepower will be priced at $94,000."
You know nothing of what you speak. I have a buddy with a modded 911 twin turbo that will positively smoke this car. It does 0-60 in under 4 seconds. 530 horses for $97k? Are you kidding me? Hell my brother's 2004 cobra w/ all extras does 600 hp at the rear wheel. P/W ratios are all comperable, and it only cost him roughly 60k all told. Say what you want about rear-wheel drive cars, the track is the true test and this thing isn't going to live up to the hype in its stock form.
And let's not forget, it may be nice (although WAY WAY overpriced) but it's still a Nissan, and won't hold it's resale value the same way say a porsche would.
- skyshock1, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0"the top of the line EVO that produces 530 horsepower will be priced at $94,000."
- Spuy767, on 10/11/2007, -5/+1No kidding, I'll get a Z06 for 74,000, and Get a used G35 with what I have left over as a daily driver.
- sdcarter, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4If you're looking at cars in that price range then chances are you have enough expendable income to afford it.
Also, your comparisons are, in my opinion, wrong. Better comparisons would be (based on output/intent) Shelby Mustang GT500KR (500bhp, price not available), Porsche GT2 (462 bhp, $180,000+), BMW E92 M3 (420bhp/$54,000 + estimated Dinan Stage 2 upgrade 80bhp/$10,000 - $15,000 = $65,000 - $70,000), and Laborghini Gallardo (500bhp, $200,000).
The GT-R is aiming pretty high and the average person would guffaw at the idea of paying $94,000 for a Nissan. But these are probably the same people who would have laughed at Honda when it introduced the NSX so many years ago. In truth, the GT-R is just the next logical step and people who know what to expect are the same people who would willingly pay $100,000ish or more for exclusive access to that level of performance.
Do you need a car like this? No. Do you want a car like this? Absolutely yes. Would you buy a car like this if you had the money to spend and were in the market? Unquestionably yes.- skyshock1, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0I'd never pay $97,000 for a Nissan.
" But these are probably the same people who would have laughed at Honda when it introduced the NSX so many years ago."
Yeah, and you see what happened with THOSE. Piss poor dollar to performance ratio, resale value is nothing, sales slumped and they were subsequently discontinued. This Nissan will be nothing more than a Ricer's masturbatory fantasy. I'll pass.

Buried as inaccurate- knupso, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1Oh cry me a river. burried for whining
- unfinite, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5The //current// "Skyline" has absolutely nothing to do with the older skylines. aka the Infiniti G35
The GT-R is more a Skyline than the G35.
Although it wont be called a Skyline, the top end Skyline's were badged GT-R and this is just Nissan's way of being hip and creating a buzz.
- horizontaleight, on 10/11/2007, -8/+2I am really excited for this, but I must say I'm a little disappointed over the styling.
- Spuy767, on 10/11/2007, -3/+0Yeah, I'll wait a year for when infiniti gets to release their 2 + 2 version of it that's just as fast, and ten times as practical.
- ChoadNamath, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2Yeah, it looks like a Mustang/350Z mashup.
- Smog2k, on 10/11/2007, -2/+43They used to televise Goodwood in the states, no more.
Someday the US will realize that not ALL racing just turns left.....- logicalnoise, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6well duh, I mean it's like you've never seen drag racing before.
- Spuy767, on 10/11/2007, -7/+0WE do realize this, they're called the ALMS, the SCAA, Rolex Cup, ARCA, and NASCAR does have two road courses, tho, IMHO, they should have more.
- solemnraven, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3HAHAHAH NASCAR ROAD COARSE AHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA.
B.C those peices of crap are designed for banked, wide ass turns they take those curves at like 30mph, hahaha i can do that in my WRX, in REVERSE - DrIce926, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Hey Spuy, watch the movie "Idiocracy" please. Then understand the difference between "fast, retarded" American racing and "skillful, intelligent" GT racing.
- solemnraven, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3HAHAHAH NASCAR ROAD COARSE AHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA.
- Smog2k, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5That was a blanket statement referencing that GT racing is still a small market in the US. I'll hold your hand and walk you through it next time.
- Spuy767, on 10/11/2007, -5/+1How about I walk you throught how to give a ***** handjob. Kiss my ass. All of us aren'y ***** rednecks.
- unfinite, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1I'm so excited. But I hope they do something about the hood before they release it. It's the only thing I don't like. The vents look like bad polygon modeling. I think they could do better. http://www.rsportscars.com/foto/10/gtrproto05_04.jpg
Also, this model is so much nicer than the original prototype http://www.allfastcars.com/wallpaper/nissan-gtr-concept.jpg - TunaFishGangsta, on 10/11/2007, -11/+1So wait a second, the Skyline is coming to the USA? That car was right hand drive. Bzzz. Try again.
- joe122370, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1yes, they've finally converted it to left hand for the US. Previous versions used a twin turbo inline 6 which made it impossible to move the steering box to the other side of the car. You can import the older model GT-R's for about $90,000 US
- vertigorider, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0good job magazine racer. no, the steering box had nothing to do with it. if you go to the middle east, there are several left hand drive r34's. nissan simply didnt want the skyline to compete with the 300zx, same reason they never brought a turbo 240. and no, you cant import them any more. the govt closed that loophole. Canada still gets the r32's and the r33's will start next year i believe.
- howyoudoin, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1actually the skyline doesnt meet the emission standards here, so after you import one to the states for 90k you have to overhaul it to meet the standards, so thats why it was not sold here....
- vertigorider, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1nope. canada has stricter emissions standards than the entire USA, including possibly California, and skylines pass just fine up there (stock.)
- MrStylz, on 10/11/2007, -5/+14I still prefer the R34 to any other =/
- FelixdaaHack, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/features/0608sccp_2008_nissan_gtr/photo_01.html
- Henryrchurchill, on 10/11/2007, -7/+2I was a car park marshal and i parked this car. It is so so so so sick The only problem is that we had to make sure that it did not lose its bumper. They did take off the rubber on the front on the friday but then the rain came down.
- StarWarsFever, on 10/11/2007, -8/+15""The GT-R will start at about $57,000, the V-Spec will go for $67,000 and the top of the line EVO that produces 530 horsepower will be priced at $94,000."

Fully involved Mustang Cobra for $57,000
Dinan modded BMW M3 for $67,000
Porsche 911 Turbo for $97,000
Nice car, sure. But no for THAT kind of money."
Yeah, but none of those cars can even begin to touch the performance/handling and overall awesomeness of the GTR. And as far as the price goes, skyline GTR's have always been around $77,000 converted from Yen.- MrStylz, on 10/11/2007, -10/+5I disagree entirely - a Dinan M3 and Porsche 911 will have similar, if not better in circumstances, performance or handling charactersistics. The Skyline is a nice car but in no way does it stand alone. To say that those cars "[can't] even begin to touch..." is absurd.
- vertigorider, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Leave the Dinan out of it. Stock vs stock, the M3 would get killed. Modded, it would get killed. The Porsche can hang on a track just as well, but youre either a Porsche guy or youre not. Personally, I hate the look of the 911.
- aegis9975, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14First off the 911 Turbo has an base MSRP of $120k, secondly the Mustang Cobra has a solid rear-axle and handles like *****, and the GT-R is suppose to come in at anywhere between 450-480hp, sub-4 sec 0-60, and massive grip with AWD/4WS.
Also, R34 Skyline GT-Rs when they were sold were closer to $42k when based off yen conversion during that time. They were 5700000 Yen; no where near $77k, you are talking out of your ass. - elementop, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2I'll take a Lotus Elise for $50,000. It might not be as fast as the other cars, but it doesn't have to slow down to go around corners :D
- ronintetsuro, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Tell you what Stylz, you bring your Cobra, and I'll bring a GT-R and a shovel.
The GT-R is to beat you to the first turn, and the shovel is to dig your overpriced Escort out of the dirt when you go off the track trying to keep up.- MrStylz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Did you read my comment *****? Where in it does it say anything about a Rustang? They aren't worth anything - I've outrun blown V8 mustangs on the road-tracks plenty of times around with a barely modified, naturally aspirated, high-compression I-4 --- mustangs handle like a ***** piece of ***** even if they do have horsepower. A Dinan M3 and 911 Turbo on the other hand, not so.
- craig4, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I don't know where you are going to find a 911 turbo for 97,000... even at invoice they are 120,000
- TwoDeuces, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1While I agree that the article states the same prices you list here, I would say that the badging "GTR" is being misused. By that I mean that GT-R is reserved for only the highest version of a specific model. Not all Skylines are badged as a GTR. The R34 came in a 2.5 litre, single turbo 270hp version badged the GTS-T as well as a 2.6 litre, twin sequential turbo, AWD, AWS version badged the GT-R.
I would imagine then that the pricing would be similar now:
$57,000 - GTS equivalent non AWD, non turbo, approx 350HP. The hope is that true to all Skyline model cars you would find an inline 6 under the hood. Approx 4 litres would be acceptable. This car would produce about the same performance as the 2 billion pound, solid rear axle Cobra GT.
$67,000 - GTS-T non awd, single turbo, approx 420+ HP. Again 4.0 litre engine. Performance would be on par with an M3 Dinan.
$97,000 - reserved for the GT-R badging. At such a jump in price, here is where you can expect to find the AWD and HICAS (Nissan's patented All Wheel Steering system) as well as dual sequential turbos. You might also find a larger engine, although I suspect not. Performance should reach 500+ hp.
I would say acceleration on par with the Porsche, and with AWD/HICAS it should corner better than the Elise.
- MrStylz, on 10/11/2007, -10/+5I disagree entirely - a Dinan M3 and Porsche 911 will have similar, if not better in circumstances, performance or handling charactersistics. The Skyline is a nice car but in no way does it stand alone. To say that those cars "[can't] even begin to touch..." is absurd.
- uselessexpert, on 10/11/2007, -9/+4Corvette Z06 for $20 grand less...
Take that bad boy, ANY DAY!- markadmin, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3corvette handles like ***** though. check the road and track review on handling;(
- vertigorider, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2the z06 is an amazing track car. at laguna seca it lapped 5 seconds faster than the lotus exige and 1 sec faster than the 911 turbo. thats pretty impressive.
- Kinjiru, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2and the vette would have zero chance against a Skyline... LMAO
- craig4, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1This is not a skyline... its a GT-R. people really need to start getting it right.
- aegis9975, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1huh? pricing on the Nissan GT-R isn't even close to being announced yet. Also, this month's Motortrend "estimates" the price around $70k, which is exactly where the Z06 is priced. Aside from that, its impossible to compare a car with no concrete information being released, must less anybody outside of test drivers even driving.
- craig4, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1AWD vs RWD, I'll take the AWD any day.
- markadmin, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3corvette handles like ***** though. check the road and track review on handling;(
- MikeonTV, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1Are these things legal in the US yet?
- aegis9975, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1It'll be released as a "World Car" according to Carlos Ghosen (CEO of Nissan), so it has been announced to be released in the US.
- jgambleii, on 10/11/2007, -8/+5It reminds me of the 2004 Mustangs... especially the side view.

- dippyskoodlez, on 10/11/2007, -8/+5I'll take a 911 turbo, Thanks.
- brownspank, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1You mean, in theory, or for real?
- Aslander, on 10/11/2007, -7/+2It looks like a cross between a 911, Mustang, and 350Z
- mynameistim, on 10/11/2007, -7/+1i'll stick with a G35 coupe.
- solemnraven, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1the genic corp douche bag car.
- etx313, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2I wish I could afford one. I have a 350z so it's close enough i guess.
- emrikol, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1As close as I am to the south pole.

whatever you have to tell yourself.
- pixel, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2I love my 350z
- DrIce926, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Oh great, Mustang and Cobalt had unprotected sex when they got drunk nine months ago. At least this one will outlast the rest of the inbred American family.
I'm sure it will be fast enough, I just don't really like how it looks. R34 was beautiful.- solemnraven, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2lol, +1 for taking the time to think up a FWD and a RWD to make the AWD.
I don't think it looks THAT bad, a little boxy, but body kits will surely be aplenty. - DrIce926, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I agree, it doesn't look terrible; just not my style. That's ok. =-)
I'm glad someone caught that. I was also referring to the body style mixing, but it is prettier than both of those, in my opinion. A freak mutation.
- solemnraven, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2lol, +1 for taking the time to think up a FWD and a RWD to make the AWD.
- solemnraven, on 10/11/2007, -4/+3YAY! They gave it a back seat ^_^,
I was sooo scared they were going to just pump up and rebadge a 350Z....
Godzilla is back bitches! - speaker219, on 10/11/2007, -3/+7There's gotta be an iPhone somewhere in this picture...SOMEWHERE
- bankhead, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6I never understood how U.S. regulations could halt such a respected car, I'm sure that it would do well here - http://www.automobilemag.com/reviews/coupes/0601_nissan_skyline/
- ronintetsuro, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I'm not sure, but I did read that it had more to do with Nissan Corporate being too proud of the R series to downtune it for a Stateside port. And I agree with them.
Might also have something to do with the common practice of reporting an engine at a lower hp than what it actually preforms at to headfake emissiosn people. Something tells me they might have had problems with that here. Especially not being a big three manufacturer.
- ronintetsuro, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I'm not sure, but I did read that it had more to do with Nissan Corporate being too proud of the R series to downtune it for a Stateside port. And I agree with them.
- Velocity211, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6Watch out ferrari
- solemnraven, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2Also, i think it looks like a boxy RX-8, looks like they are trying to even out the wieght distro by putting thr wheels way up front and moving the passenrger compartment near the back, it's got to be hard with that big 6-cyl turbo, but hopefully they can at least get 60/40 out of it.
- cavalon, on 10/11/2007, -6/+1It's just a Nissan...
- jasoncz1, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2No it's not just a Nissan! it's a Nissan at goodwood, and it's just been spotted.
- ogden, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1As a big NISMO fan and 350Z owner, I have one thing to say: Nissan has lost it's way. Nissan's design in the early 2000's was the vanguard of the industry. But now... The new 35 sedan? Disappointing. The new 37 coupe? Disappointing. The GT-R? Disappointing.
- ronintetsuro, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8To be completely frank, if I had the means to get a GT-R, the LAST reason I'd be getting one would be for the *styling*.
I don't buy cars to impress my pissy pants, ascot wearing rich neighbors or to get goldiggers hot in the pants. If I'm spending $77k, that beast better knock my dick in the dirt everytime I get sideways. GT-R promises that kind of action.
If you want fashion, go buy a Mini and let us play with the good stuff uninterrupted.
- ronintetsuro, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8To be completely frank, if I had the means to get a GT-R, the LAST reason I'd be getting one would be for the *styling*.
- hakujin, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Is it really true that you CAN'T import a R32/33/34 GTR V-SPEC from Japan any more? Or is it just the myriad of adjustments that must be done with any Japanese Sports Car per EPA/DOT/US Customs Requirements combined with the relative obscurity of these Skylines? The reason I ask is that I was thinking of opening a import car business in the U.S. early '08 in TX and I guess this would be an interesting place as any to start my viability analysis. I can get supras/skylines/imprezas/lancers/rx7s @ good net present value via a dealer's license my family has in Tokyo.
